Vinicius Junior

Always amazes me how Real Madrid just gets the right players at the right age.

Seems like Modric-Kroos played in their midfield for 20 years. Now they have Vini, and a few other talents, while we're forced to fish in the 30+ market because we don't seem capable of identifying/bringing those young promising players to United.

Real Madrid snapping up the best young Brazilian players.

Rodyrgo, Vini and Endrick.

I think the issue for Rodrygo is that he’s a LWF like Vinicius, but for obvious reasons doesn’t get to play there. He’s talented but isn’t a nailed on starter for the RWF position, and I think it’s possible Madrid will look to bring in someone for that position.

It's because we like to wait for them to go to Brighton then pay 8 times as much.

Incidentally Reinier is the only one we sent out on loan instead of keeping him with us...

I guess Hazard flopping was a humongous blessing in disguise. Would Vini have developed the way he has if Hazard had actually lived up to his reputation and transfer fee? He’d have made the right side his own and Vini would have had a huge obstacle in his way during a time when he was just raw and undeveloped talent and needed the playing time.

Nah, I mean yeah, Zidane was the biggest sponsor for Hazard but we'd been in talks to sign him before he came back. Flo hadn't given up on Bale yet but he also wasn't pushing to persist with him either. Bale had his chance in 18/19 and blew it

This is such a petty post. Just admit that you can't stand him because you're argentinian instead of making shit up

All of Kaka, Dinho and Neymar did this, as do many argentinian players as well

Both things you said are not correct. And my point is you can do it once or twice, not everytime you win a corner kick.

Not really. Lots of players do it. If you watch United, you'll see Bruno do this all the time. Enzo has been at Chelsea 5 minutes and I've seen him do this multiple times. Rudiger used to do it all the time. Zinchenko does it every 2 minutes at the Emirates. Every team has a couple of players who like to interact with the crowd.

Haven't seen enzo doing it, and I do watch chelsea games because of him. Can't stand Bruno, maybe that has something to do with it, but I don't think he does it as much as these brazilian kids.

Again, one thing is to do it once when you score or something, but yesterday I've seen them doing it every single time they had an attacking chance.

It's not something bad, they're great players. I'm aware this is something personal, and if other people are ok with it, it's ok.

The point I made in the initial post was ‘carry the attack at CL level’, if we just take the number in the CL in isolation, Benzema has 4G 1A, Rodrygo has 5G 2A, Vinicius has 7G 5A. Being responsible for 43.75% of the goals and 71.4% of the assists is pretty carry-ish, if you ask me.

My wider point all along was that he’s a better version of Neymar when they are both 22. Neymar finished that campaign with 39G 10A, Vinicius is already at 21G 23A, with a minimum of 6 more games to be played, and the latter played in a demonstrably stronger attack, with demonstrably stronger partners. He’s less of a goal threat, but more creative, more mature, more explosive, less likely to overindulge in tricks and playact. Not a very controversial take, you’d have thought.

Not controversial but certainly debatable - I note your points but still remain unconvinced/undecided. 39 goals is ridiculous from Neymar! I’d probably argue that Neymar was at least as creative as Vini is now, to play devils advocate…

Interesting debate - will canvas opinions from my friends and maybe come back to you ..

The season Neymar scored 39 goals he was strictly a goalscorer though, his G/A are actually pretty indicative of his role. Suarez and Messi were setting the table for him a lot rather than the opposite. Despite those numbers he was clearly the least of the MSN, Messi and Suarez were a level above. It's the following season that he really went up a couple levels and became 1B to Messi's 1A

Probably been said already but if Mbappe/Haaland are the new Messi/Ronaldo is this guy the new Neymar?

Some would see it that way. I think Neymar's more talented than Mbappe/Haaland though and I don't think Vinicius is.

I think Neymar's more naturally talented than Ronaldo too, but I imagine that's not a popular opinion on here.

Back to Vini though, I don't think Neymar's the best comparison for him despite some similarities. He actually reminds me a lot of Ronaldo from the 2006-2007 season in a way.

In terms of young foreign talent, the last one we got at a young age who fulfilled his potential and beyond was probably Ronaldo, and that was 2 decades ago now!

We had Pogba, lost him for nothing at a young age, had to buy him back for a fortune, and we could never get the best out of his talent.

There have been a few who looked like they'd go on to big things but it never materialised (Macheda and Januzaj are the two who spring to mind).

Others like Fabio and Rafael had decent careers but hardly superstars.

Hoping that Garnacho will be as good as advertised, he's looked good so far. If Real Madrid are trying to nick him in 5 years at least we'll know he's been a success!

Pellistri looked decent any time I've seen him but can't really make a proper judgement cos Erik doesn't seem to fancy him, so we hardly ever see him play!

But in general, a mediocre enough return in 20 years, to put it mildly. Identifying young talent that will ultimately go on to become successful footballers at the top level is not easy, to say the least!

Well Greenwood looked like a proper player already at 18/19, and probably most natural footballer in our squad so yeah, bad luck.

I was only talking about scouting young players from abroad, our record has been hit and (mostly) miss.

In terms of British talent, yeah MG looked the real deal, could have been one of the best we ever produced.

Vini would also be a ‘level below’ Messi and Suarez, even with his current form.

Messi sure, obviously. Suarez, eh. He's close. To be fair, Ney being a level below was a bit of hyperbole as well

Google translate:

It wasn't the first time, nor the second, nor the third. Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition thinks it's normal, the Federation does too and the opponents encourage it. I'm so sorry. The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi today belongs to racists. A beautiful nation, which welcomed me and which I love, but which agreed to export the image of a racist country to the world. I'm sorry for the Spaniards who don't agree, but today, in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists. And unfortunately, for everything that happens each week, I have no defense. I agree. But I am strong and I will go to the end against racists. Even if far from here.

Wow brutal. Not been great for La Liga this season with the racism issues and referee bribery.

Great player, hopefully Boehly got some money left to put a bid in.

He hasn't renewed his contract either has he? Surely must think about fecking off, it's an absolute joke what he has to put up with and no backing from refs, league and I even think his team mates are pretty crap about it.

No he hasn't renewed. And if he doesn't, and he signs for a PL team (hopefully us!), Tebas will be coming out crying about the big bad Premier League, when in reality he is simply refusing to solve a very fixable problem. Racist abuse by a tiny minority? Use cameras to identify them and issue a lifetime ban. Racist abuse by a large number of fans? Call off the match immediately and award an X goal win to their opponent. If these things start happening, then the abuse will stop instantly.

Bold statement. Hopefully it will force la Liga to take actions and not paint him as the villain in that story.

They'll release a statement or even a small campaign condemning it and nothing will change.

Edit: I was wrong. They will not even do that. Instead that Tebas has turned the blame to the victim.

It's crazy, there's so many things they could do that could address it. Not even big things, like revoking red card, but for some reason they just refuse to admit a problem.

I did jibe the team mates a bit, but I imagine they don't do anything like walking off, as they feel like they won't get backed by the league.

I live in Spain and it feels like their culture is like 50 years behind ours. Casual racism is commonplace and you see what they do with bulls in every town over here. It's backwards.

Vinicious' tweet is fantastic to see and it's gonna be interesting how the federation responds. I'd like to see other footballers based in Spain no matter what team to back him. I always think of the banana been thrown at Alves. Nothing has changed since then.

Such a silly move by Tebas responding on twitter. Not helping the issue at all.

Exactly. If you want to talk about details or a meeting or whatever, do that in private. If you want to reply in public, there’s nothing more you should say than condemn it, offer your empathy and try to find the people who did this.

It’s a weird position anyway. Why is the president of the league coming out with tweets about Messi and what Barca need to do to make it happen etc. Seems like an attention-hungry twat.

Hilariously stupid response from Tebas. Cares more about la ligas name being tarnished than the actual issue at hand.
