Vinicius Junior

Odoi isn’t nearly as fast or explosive as Vinicius for starters.

But he's also fast and explosive. I'm comparing Hudson-Odoi to Vinicius from a couple of years ago. The one that was still learning to be a coherent part of a top side, whose finishing was erratic etc. Not the current version.

If he was one of our pampered players, he would’ve crumbled after that. You can’t survive at Madrid without having thick skin. Thats why they have the mentality they do to keep on winning.
imagine the press briefings

Not close to the explosive style of Vinicius. How many other players take on Walker on the outside and give him a run for his money? No way could Odoi do the same. He’s decent by all means, but not that similar imo.

Sancho might be faster than Odoi.

He was pretty explosive before his injury. He's shown flashes of it since. Anyway I was looking at the kind of shortcomings Vinicius had before he blossomed into this player, and they were the same shortcomings Hudson-Odoi has currently. Stylistically I suppose we can agree to disagree. I think they're pretty similar.

His speed has never impressed me. More similar to Saka - wide playmaker that can dribble past, but not explosive enough to do what Vinicius is doing.

This makes me wonder actually. Who is the fastest footballer atm?
You probably need to look at some average player in a random team. If instead you look at top teams from the best European leagues, it is perhaps a little easier to make a discussion.

Mbappe, Adama, Dembele, Walker (top speed probably him), Daniel James, Haaland… there are a great many more. United always used to have one in discussion. Not so much now. Rashford at his best was fast. Don’t see it much anymore.

Mbappe and Adama seem clear of anyone else I've watched on a pitch in recent years. They seem to just pull away from anyone both with and without the ball

Okay we are talking about degrees of explosive. Seems like semantics to me when the only point I made from the start was that I saw a lot of the same shortcomings in both players and therefore Vinicius' rise to this level gives me up Hudson-Odoi can overcome his own shortcomings if given the chance and trust to step up.

Previous season he tried to force it more, while now he picks his moments better, even in games where he doesn't have many moments, he make those few moments counts, he has matured a lot.

That clip reinforces Walker's speed more than anything. His recovery was pretty impressive for someone, who pressed too tight and got done.

If Phil Jones (?!) wasn't there, it would have been interesting to see Dembele going straight for goal with the open pitch and if Walker would have got close enough/goal side.

Defenders who just run a straight line without the ball will look faster.

I'm still to see anyone outpace Kyle Walker. He may genuinely be the fastest footballer I've ever seen

Also, I have seen Perisic smoking Walker in a straight line few years back when we were linked with him.Tried but couldn’t find the video.

A comment on that video says it best. Defenders are a step behind because they are anticipating moves. Swap role here and Walker would blitz past him maybe

Agree. Not in terms of acceleration, but his top speed is probably the most impressive I’ve seen. It’s a major component in why City are able to sit so high up the pitch. Mbappe got no luck out of him. Vinicius accelerated away, but Walker always caught up. He outsprinted a peak Bale with ease as well.

Good on him and good on Real Madrid. How is Vinicius dancing any different from Griezmann doing it

Jeez, El Chiringuito is a fecking cesspit. He said that on live TV? Good on Madrid, and all those in the game who came out to support Vinicius.

Hopefully he continues dancing every time he scores.

Sane pre-injury was faster than Walker IMHO, haven't seen much of him at bayern to know if he still has it.

I hope this brother scores a hatrick and dances like Usher on every goal, and I hope the camera pans to Koke and that other racist prick each time so we can feast on their tears.

Koke wasn't being racist though, what he said was perfectly normal.

I didn’t say Koke was being racist. That other guy was. Koke took issue with it though and I want to see his face when Vini scores a screamer and dances on that Atleti pitch.

Which other guy? And what did he say?

Some guy who’s leader of the Spanish agent association or something said something along the lines of stop playing the monkey and to go back to Brazil if you want to do samba.

There was nothing racist about the comment. The expression "make the monkey" means to make the idiot or the stupid. And it has always been used in Spain and has nothing to do with skin color.
What is simply a campaign of image washing to Vinicius from Madrid after his last controversies and from Brazil because they are his companions and / or ignorance.

I love that he plays with a smile on his face. Exactly the same as Ronaldinho.

What he is guilty off are occasional theatrics.

Give me a break. I have no idea if it's a traditional saying or not. The modern connotation of the word monkey in relation to a negative statement towards a black player make it a stupid and yeah, racist thing to say in the modern age. Cop on.

If you put on Google " Make the monkey meaning" appears the following:

COLLOQUIAL
Do or talk nonsense to provoke laughter in others .
- "stop making the monkey, you're making a fool of yourself".

It is an expression that is zero racist in Spain, that's why before I talked about the ignorance of the meaning of the expression of people from outside Spain.

Then there are the people of Spain who know that it is not a racist expression but use it for their interests.

Truth doesn't matter in the age of postmodernity.

Madrid fan here. I don’t like the dancing celebrations tbh, but what a moron to phrase it the way he did. Just say: “I personally don’t like it” and leave it at that?

And you will certainly get the side eye when:

- Someone like Griezmann has been doing dances for years and none of these people seemingly had an issue with it.

- Even if the phrase ‘making a monkey of yourself’ is a common phrase, come on. He very well knows (or should) the historic and even current issues with black people being compared to monkeys/apes out of a sense if superiority. To act dumbfounded people have an issue with the comparison is dishonest at best.

As for Koke, I think he said: “Vini can celebrate any way he wants” and when the journalist pressed further on if that wouldn’t be a problem or something, he said something along the lines of: “yeah it is common for fans to get upset about it”. So no real problems with his comments tbh.
