Victor Osimhen

He would cost 55m in 5 years. Yes it's a biggie. Risk of him failing is quite high as he is not that good.
That's 11m a year. You can eat that up and sign another striker. It's also relatively easy to shift(also, why would you give him 5m/year - ~100k a week - right away anyways???)

Osimhen/Gyokeres would cost more in transfer fee alone. Annual cost would likely be double that of Delap at least. If Osi/Gyo fails, it's likely a stone around your neck for the duration of the contract, unless Saudi comes to your rescue

Fabrizio claims we're still interested and qualifying for the ucl could decide if we splash the cash.

Damn, remaining 3 ( lets hope it is 3) games in EL are absolutely massive for us.
It's obvious we've gone with Cunha to replace Rashford, if we go for Osimhen that will transform our attack. We deserve it after what we've endured this season.

That would surely fix our lack of goals problem

Hmmm you would think if that's the case then it would have been reiterated by him on the Talk of the Devils podcast today, instead he apparently just said Delap is top attacking target.
They reference the same article which does include Osimhen.
I agree it looks like Delap is a key target and may be the primary one but Whitwell himself caveated there's some variables with Delap given other interest.

Honestly I'd rather go for Gyokeres, I feel he'll be cheaper too, not by much though.

There have always been complaints about his touch, last thing we need is another Lukaku esque player. I've watched a lot more of Gyokeres compared to him though, so there's that.

Nevermind his touch. Lukaku carried 100kgs around and had a poor engine as a result. Osimhen plays with the energy and aggression of a wolverine. He's like a bigger, stronger, aerially great Jamie Vardy

Fair, but from what I've read/heard, he's not very good with his back to goal, more of a run into space kinda guy, while Gyokeres excels in both.

He's not bad with his back to goal either, but yes from what I've seen Gyokeres is much better in that regard

But Osi is gonna sprint 100 times per match, press them into submission and generally run defenders ragged. He may not be great at one thing, but he's so good in other ways that you can make it work pretty easily. And honestly, who cares that his second touch is a challenge if he wins that challenge anyways? ;)

He's not Benzema, if the team are deep and regain possession he's more likely to make a run into the channel and retain the ball out wide. If the angle is favourable he'll go straight at goal himself.

Cunha-Amad-Osimhen with Bruno on mc would be an absolute dream.

Signing Osimhen would very much feel like us not learning lessons.
Why? The last time we signed a world class player in his prime for big money was Bruno and look at how much of an impact he's had. Osimhen would transform us.

Can anyone explain why Osimhen is playing for a Turkish team in his prime instead of for us, Real or another big club like that? If he's transformative for the front line and guaranteed to score X amount of goals, why didn't anyone go for him yet?

He’s on a late minute loan move to Galatasaray. The choice was go on loan to Turkiye or spend the season (at least until January) not playing.

He’s on a large salary at Napoli. After being a key component in winning the league title, he wanted a move away to a bigger side. Throughout the season he was doing little bait and hints about wanting bigger and better things, similarly the Napoli chairman is a bit of a mentalist wanker who wasn’t happy with that. I think he had links to Chelsea deep into the summer, but the move never materialised. At that point it was too late for another big club to pay the big transfer fee + match his salary demands. Hence the panic move to Turkiye on loan (where, as mentioned in this thread, salary tax is lower hence easier move along).

He is now linked with a move “in his prime to us or another big club”.

Bruno wasn't really world class at the time.

But then you have to varying degrees

Casemiro
Lukaku
Pogba
Sanchez
Sancho
Antony

Not necessarily in their prime, but players we bought for big money and struggled to move on due to wages/PSR hit. Osimhen has never played in the PL and we don't know how much he'd fit the system, we need to come away from this Woodward-esque transfer policy, not get distracted by shiny things.

And that's not even going into down the path of a) his wages and b) how much we'd have to pay to get him.

We can't keep spending a Europa League sized budget on Champions League players. That's why we're in this mess.

Thanks!

Will his demands have gone down since then?

Plus, allegedly Chelsea met Napoli’s transfer fee but could not meet his wage demands so pulled out.

He was having talks supposedly with a Saudi club who offered him huge wages but Napoli kept asking for more transfer fee.

Him and Napoli fell out, accusations of racism. Napoli didn’t want him near the first team and he didn’t want to be near Napoli. Relationship breakdown.

Very very late more to turkey kept him playing at least for the season.

As you say the real test will be if he joins someone on reasonable wages

If we get this guy and the Wolves dude that'll be a great start to our summer business. We need goals desperately.

But rolling the dice is sort of just part of it when you go for young players? Unfortunately it can't always work out.

We rolled two dices wrong, simultaneously. Somehow. I'd rather go for the finished articles now until we have a settled squad.

That was the consensus at the time, going for young strikers with promise instead of finished articles.
The general idea was buy younger, yes, but that is not close to saying they were the solution, lessons learned.

Zirkzee has done alright though. Højlund wasn't even bought when Ratcliffe joined, years before.
