I do wonder whether he would make a better CDM.

He seems good at closing people down and putting pressure on, he's great at on the floor tackling but balls over the top always catch him out.

He played well but it was lame as hell to let Mane get past him to score that "goal"

yeah, it kinda helps when an attacker can use his arm to get past a defender. but don't let that stop you from blaming Lindelof.

Decent shout. Hasn’t he played there for Benfica? Think he’d be worth trying there

It would destroy the perception he's good on the ball

He's never played that role. I'd rather just get rid of him and buy a specialist defender and then a specialist defensive midfielder than try to squeeze him into that position because he can't really play the position he was brought to play.

Don’t even need Mourinho, I think everyone should know when they watch him week in week out. But then again that’s right, why did he even buy him in the first place and sold Blind. They are pretty much the same player.

Blind was stronger, better in the air and better on the ball.

Lindelof is simply a okay/sometimes very good CB. Ultimately not good enough to be starting long term for us though and not better than Smalling. Which should have been the minimum requirement for any CB signing.

His ball playing abilities is a myth too.

Hard to know really. He's hit a few raking passes from defence before, no reason he couldn't do that.

It just depends whether he's got the vision to hit the ball between the lines, not sure on that.

I believe he's played there for either Benfica/Sweden before? I agree though obviously buying would be better, but while we're limited it could be worth trying.

People saying he had a good game apart from the Mane thing really surprises me. I thought he was the worst player on the pitch by some distance.

Very poor, his positioning was poor, weak, bad in the air. I really don't see it with him at all. Even his passing was sloppy.

He was better in the second half (Average).

He'd by my last choice when everybody is fit.

Some people are easily swayed by 1 or 2 moments in a game. For example he made a nice tackle on the half way line at one point stealing the ball. All the people who dont pay any attention to defending whatsoever will probably see this one good moment and come up with the idea that he played well. Because he did something good at some point

Largely indifferent towards Lindelof. I can see his strengths and his weaknesses are as clear as day and in this League, where physicality and strength in aerial duels in a must, then you question whether he's going to eventually improve upon that element of his game or not.

Lindelof was our best player last year. Not saying much but still, he was and it wasn't even really that close. He gets more time but I'd definitely drop him for axel for a bit
No he wasn´t even Shaw got the nod before him he was the mainstay of the worst Utd PL defense that shipped 60 goals , Pogba was by far our best player last season but that didn´t fit the narrative. I´ve been saying this for some time now that he is a trainwreck of a defender. His only attribute is he reads the game fairly well other than that he is shocking. He lacks physicality, his heading is diabolical and he is slow as feck, just look at his the Mane incident he is a complete mess there on so many levels. He is only saved by us fielding Rojo who is an bigger joke of a defender.

Most probably right. He also doesn't often get dribbled past or made to look a fool. Usually because he is 5 yards further away from the player than he should be.

He played midfielder as a teenager but not fir Sweden nor Benifica. Maybe he was moved occasionally during a match or as starter for one match but not on a regular basis.

Same. He has some good sides and some glaring bad ones.

There was an awkward pass to him that he controlled on his right before lifting it over the pressing attacker to AWB on his left foot. Anybody else in our defence belts that upfield and we lose it.

Then he will switch off and let Mane get goal side of him.

Hes the best we have to partner Maguire for now but Tuanzebe should be aiming for his spot in the summer.

From yesterday's game it seems to me that his flat out sprinting speed ok, but his acceleration is quite possibly the slowest thing on earth.

Or am I wrong on that?

Very underrated player on here. Again another example of a player who starts badly and then is always labelled that way even if there's been clear improvements. In CB terms, at 25 is still young and there will be mistakes in his game especially in this league which is very unforgiving and there are no longer any easy games. Tuanzebe ceiling is higher but he still has a lot to learn too which would equally be exposed when you are playing every week in the prem.

I think you are right. He had 2-3 long distance sprints yesterday where his top speed and also stamina at top speed looked good, but he looked slow the first 1-2 seconds.

He has a passive, fairly cowardly style of play which isn't a good fit for a top club. Probably as a result of his lacking physical qualities.

I doubt if we improve he'll be first choice in the long run.

He seems to come off second best when faced with a physically strong, athletic striker. Likewise against any pace merchant he struggles. He's better bringing the ball out from the back and passing between the lines, and when defending simple crosses into the box.

We haven't conceded many goals, I wouldn't say Madison is a strong athletic striker and he bullied him, it's matter of confidence really and him becoming better physically.

If he doesn't we know Tuanzebe will be alot more physical.

Most defenders struggle against a pace merchant. He did quite well to keep up with Origi.

He's a good defender for a front-foot team, but when we're pinned back he doesn't fill me with any sort of confidence.

I'm the opposite with him. When you play on the front foot, the opposition are more likely to go long over the top or play balls into the air. Thats where Lindelof consistently has trouble.

When we're pinned back we probably have other defenders who can help him out in the air

Don't really get some of the hate for him on here, he's a very reliable CB. He has made a couple of mistakes and been physically lacking at times, thinking of the Crystal Palace and Southampton games at the moment.

The problem is, we don't control games nor do we score, every mistake and goal is scrutinised to the very last because it usually costs us the game. If we were winning games 2-1 and 3-1, we would barely even be looking at these. In reality, what costs us results is our inability to dominate teams and create goalscoring opportunities. We find ourselves on the back foot over and over again, and invite pressure which inevitably leads to mistakes and goals conceded.

He might not be good enough to get us back to the top in the long run, but defence definitely isn't one of the areas we need to strengthen at the moment.
that
this all makes him unreliable. Its like david luiz. He may make nice passes and win the ball many times but he has a penalty, poor clearance or tackle away from giving away a goal. the players in front of you need to be confident that NOTHING is getting past you and at the very least the opposition are not going to get easy chances because your CB is lacking.

standards have dropped. doing your job sometimes is enough nowadays. We need CB who are colossal.

in Spain or Italy he would be really excellent defender i think. Pace of the game is a lot slower, he gets more time and the physicality is taken out of it a bit more.

In this league though, he isnt able to deal with the physicality and the speed of it. Its been shown time and time again. Once the ball is in the air he is totally lost. Id sell him and annoyingly he would be a top buy for a leading Spanish team I think. Thats the way it goes sometimes.

yeah, it kinda helps when an attacker can use his arm to get past a defender. but don't let that stop you from blaming Lindelof.

This type of defence is bizarre. The ball hitting Mane’s arm accidentally didn’t get him past Lindelof. He outmuscled him and Lindelof wasn’t even aware of the handball. Very fortunate and extremely poor defending.

Consistently overrated on here based on some relatively average displays last season and not being called Smalling or Jones. Unfortunately, he just isn’t a very good defender.

Whilst Jones has his faults, I would much prefer to see him playing alongside Maguire, with Tuanzebe being eased into the team steadily (bound to be plenty of chances when Jones is injured).

How are Benfica fans looking at him now? Has he improved since he arrived at United?

To make things worse, he was trying to blame DDG for not coming out to help him in the aftermath when he should be dealing with the situation himself. Quite strange to watch that i thought

Like said, football is about opinions and I like him and last year he was probably our best player.

He’s playing like he did during his first season. If he keeps this up then Tuanzebe will move him out very quickly.

Mane has caused a lot more problems against better CBs than he did against Lindelof yesterday. And if it wasn't for his physical confrontation with Mane, Mane wouldn't have handled the ball. The Mane handball phase of play didn't result in a goal for Liverpool. End of.

He played well yesterday, as did Maguire and AWB. Rojo was robust as usual, but was at fault for Liverpool's goal. He didn't attack Robertson's cross and didn't do good.

I think he's pretty unreliable anytime the ball is in the air.

He's going to be watching Tuanzebe from the bench pretty soon and rightly so. Rarely makes a goal saving tackle, or anything really which would make me glad he's in the team. As for ball playing abilities, thats nonsense. Treats it like a hot potato most of the time. If he was even good in the air, or relatively quick..

100%

In fact, I'd have no issues if we started with Maguire and Alex as our 1st choice CBs.

Conceded goals
Liverpool 7
United 9
City 9
Arsenal 12
Tottenham 13
Chelsea 14

Scored goals
City 29
Liverpool 21
Chelsea 19
Tottenham 15
Arsenal 13
United 10

Still find it weird that Lindelof is scapegoat for everything bad in the world when you look at the facts and result above. Maybe Tuanzebe will do it better, maybe not, Nobody could know as he has hardly played. However doubt that the result would have been much better. Facts are: 9 conceded goals is good. 10 scored goals is very poor.

Edit: added one conceded to Arsenal

Tuanzebe cost the equalizer against Arsenal. It's about having competition in the squad and players looking to constantly improve, and I think both Lindelof and Tuanzebe could potentially be excellent centre backs for United, in time, with hard work. Lindelof needs to work on his vertical leap though, that much is obvious.

He’s never been the answer or anything close to it. Bailly started brightly & fell off such a cliff people are clutching at straws to make this guy out to be better than he’ll ever be; he’s an ideal 3/4th choice CB.

If teams have a tall striker; he’s targeted. If they have a quick player, he’s targeted. I just don’t see us being impenetrable with this guy as a first choice CB.

I don’t see it at all with this guy. I’m born and raised in Sweden but I’m not Swedish though. My honest opinion is that he is a Arsenal type of defender at best. I’m never 100% sure what i can excpect of him when he is starting to many brain farts to ever trust him fully. Even though Smallings short comings he is still the better defender except for when it comes to the passning but to be honest passning isn’t the first qualities to look for in a defender.

The wheels aren’t the first quality to look for in a car, but you need them to be able to drive. As I see it it is the same in modern football. Ball handling is not a good-to-have-quality, it is a basic need.
