I know that it is a thing, I just disagree with it being of any greater importance than other good traits in that position. An equivalent would be if people considered a striker that doesn't score goals at all, to be better than one who scores, but can't pass. Like Benzema vs Lukaku for instance. One can provide for others but doesn't score as much and the other barely provide anything other than goals. It is always about functionality with players, no need to put everything in boxes.

I think he has shown that has the mental strength and ability to be a Utd player given the difficult start and criticism he had to initially face
I agree there. That has impressed me the most. He seems to be liked in the group as well.

Since we are going to play on front foot instead of parking the bus, Lindelof ability is much more important than Smalling defensive skills, he is much more comfortable with the ball on his feet compared, didn't shite his pants when pressured and can distribute the ball well.

Koulibaly Lindelof partnership would be quality imo

Man Utd 4:1 Bournemouth
Good positive passes forward, weak defensively

We had Blind for that kind of performance but hey he was better than Bailly today

He's getting better but I'm still not sold he will be an elite CB ever. I don't think his positioning is good enough. I honestly would look for two new CBs and sell Rojo, Bailly, and go from there.

I think he handles himself good on the grund against any type of attacker but (as we all already know) he needs to work on his heading/defending aerial balls. Looked like a rookie for the one where he misjudged and it went to King.

Any sort of high ball and he panics.

He's improved the last few weeks but I still don't think he's good enough. You can't have a centre back who can't head the ball properly.

Confirmation bias.

Still think he's currently our best defender but that combination did him no favor. He's better on the right alongside a physically dominant CB in the air.

Luckily that blunder did not cost us and Bailly will take all the attention for that rash challenge, but Lindelof could have cost us. I continue to have doubts about his long term prospects here.

He was good today. He is our best defender. That may not be good enough but currently he is our best. He reads the game well and did well today on one on one situation too.

He’s a great footballer who’s had some good games recently. Unfortunately he’s not great in the air which could cost him.

I’ve been happy with his performances recently though and he’s probably in the best form out of our other cb’s.

Thought he did ok. Think having space in front of him instead of 7 other players on top of him probably helps.

He is decent while being incapable of defending a corner and not having anything exceptional quality in his game to make up for being such a handicap and requiring other players to do his job. Would still take Blind over him any day.

Lack of pace and strength and also poor aerially. Will get exposed against better opposition.

Did well today against Wilson who is having his best season. I think he's heading isn't that bad, just not his strength and can get caught under the ball. That said aside from Smalling, wouldn't say anyone else are dominant headers of the ball. Def currently our best defender....

Lack of pace or strength? Can't remember him being beaten for pace or strength very often. His biggest problem is he's more the second CB as oppose to the dominant one, and currently we don't have one....

Wilson beat him for pace on the one occasion he was exposed with space to run into behind him. He'll get away with a lack of physicality against the smaller teams though.

Been saying that everywhere - Bailly and Lindelöf should never pair together. Neither can head and both are rash or positioning is not good

One occasion today a high ball up to Wilson who was on his own against 3 defenders yet somehow Wilson emerged with the ball

Agree. Can't get why people wanted them to start together. This pairing brings the worst of both of them.

This wasn't his best game, but he's still clearly the best CB we have. Just needs the right partner. I've liked the look of him and Jones in the previous two matches, but a partnership with Bailly is just not a reality at the moment. He's great to watch on the ball.

This is the problem, for some reason when we aren't convinced by a player, we look at his game in a forensic way. Because Wilson on one occasion ran in behind him, that doesn't mean he's done him for pace. Lindelof may not be the answer but some of the narratives used I'm yet to see consistently. For me things he can improve is his positioning but I think lack of playing with the same player doesn't help....

Definitely wasn't as good today as he was the previous two. Not sure if it was from playing on the left, playing next to Bailly, or if it was the opposition giving him more trouble.
Probably a mix. He lost offensive capacity by playing to the left, and he lost some defensive capacity by playing with by Bailly. Ok match but nothing extra.

Solid game but I don't think he should be paired with a CB that is poor in the air as that's his biggest weakness.

Probably our best centre-back now. I mean it's either him or Smalling depending on what you value.

Most improved player this season. This dismal season I know. Been massively impressed by him.

I've never rated him since his Benfica days. I've been consistent regarding him since before we signed him. He's good on the ball but his physicality playing in a high line will be exposed against better teams. We need to address our CB issues once and for all, because the majority of our CB's aren't good enough, including Lindelof. The day, players like Lindelof are squad players, will be the day we close the gap to the likes of Liverpool and City.

He’s made defending look difficult in the past 3 games which is impressive because he hasn’t had to defend much. He was a mess marking ake on set pieces today. He lost multiple foot races today - when he really should have avoided them with better positioning. He still fails to control any air balls with confidence. You saw him shrink in confidence later in the game after losing many aerial duels and allowed king to actually just chest the ball a few feet ahead of him. That is ridiculous because it allows the opposition to build an attack out of absolutely nothing.

His strengths still remain on the ground. He can still recover decently and he’s got a good eye for a pass and decent movement off the ball for possession play.

The annoying thing is that his glaring weakness is just not getting better. It’s even worse because now that we’re dominating teams, they will only resort to long high balls to build an attack to overcome our high press. He is not dominant aerially and that gifts opposition chances out of nothing. He now has even less to defend on the ground now that we dominate possession.

Play him against ‘tougher’ opposition that actually play us on the ground. It’s the reason why he’s had almost MOTM performances against Juve twice.

His weaknesses are still huge - slow, weak, crap in the air and always under the flight of the ball.

Playing RCB at least showed his strengths, and we've been doing more defending further up the pitch which has helped. He's just not good enough though.

Makes defending look difficult is exactly how I'd describe. He makes balls which are 70-30s into 50-50s.

I wouldn't say City have outstanding defensive CB's? I would say Liverpool has one outstanding defensive CB? Don't trust Chelsea's CB's defensively and I'd say Spurs CB's are a great pairing defensively. Lindelof is playing with CB's that are either struggling for form or fitness. Young isn't defensively good enough in a back four and Matic doesn't offer the defence enough cover.

He looked really good apart from couple of headers he missed. Still feel our defense isnt anywhere near being good enough route 1 works almost all the time and we cant defend set pieces. But Bailly isnt Utd material not even close.

Christ this place. The lad has improved more than some who have been here years before him and continues to do so. Even when we were playing shit, he was turning in performances that won him player of the month. He's was outstanding in the game against Juve and even since Ole has shown an ability to carry the ball forward. People are criticising his game for things that he hasn't shown are an issue (heading aside) I've not seen him consistently done for pace, not seen him done for strength either anymore than other players. Just because people done fancy him, at least base your view on how he's playing now and not on the rhetoric....
