No idea how you can blame Lindelof, he just got smoked by Ronaldo just like 99% of defenders he plays against. That pass from Bonucci was also ridiculously good.

Not really true at all. His anticipation is off and his movement is amateurish in what follows. The goal was pure greatness as it happened, but a top defender anticipates the ball, takes out space in behind and heads that one out for a corner. To put it like this; if that same situation happens with Chiellini, it’s not even a chance.

Lindelöf also lost the ball in a very dangerous posistion after the interval, could have been a very big chance but we got lucky.

We have kept like 3 clean sheets in the last 16, which is abysmal by our standards, and Lindelöf is basically the only new part of the block that kept a record amount of clean sheets last season. Not good enough for a club with ambitions.

Agree with this 100%, it's amateurish to beat by a 40 yard lob. His positioning and anticipation was off for the goal.

The players were denying the ball to the deep midfield players (think bentacur and Matuidi). Bonucci stepped into midfield, played the 1-2 with Dybala and pinged the pass. Trying to close in on Bonucci would have left more spaces in the midfield.

It was just a great that most CBs would have hit into the clutches of the GK. Like I said that is why they have him back and were willing to trade caldara for him
It was a copy of what they did against Young Boys, so they should have put some more pressure on him imo. Leave the others, but not him. But I shouldnt blame anybody, it was a fantastic goal.

It's not amateurish. You don't find a defend in the world, a defend throughout history, that doesn't occasionally get a ball played in behind them. It's an inch perfect pass to a striker who made a really intelligent run. Why can't people just accept that sometimes it's just a bloody good goal?

Glad the concenus is rightly applauding another good performance from the guy. He's barely put a food wrong in well over a month now.

He played very well.

The goal - he could approach it differently in hindsight, but it's not a mistake. He just got beat. I can handle that if he's generally solid.

I'm sure a top player snuffs out those runs, just like when Ronaldo scored in the CL final with all the Juve defenders standing like statues...

I was one of his biggest critics but hats off to him, he is getting better and better after each passing game. That is building his confidence up and he is deservedly in the team.

Long may it continue!

Because I can't see Chiellini, Skriniar or Koulibably get lobbed from 40 yards mate. He played well, but let's not overrate him pleas.

Hes definitely got a mistake in him.Can anyone else confirm this but hasnt his ill judgement cost us a goal in each of our last 4 games?
Didn't cost us a goal today. Whole team was caught trying to push out at Bournemouth so not his ill judgement. Everton was Pogba and Smalling. Dybala's goal also wasn't caused by his ill judgement. So, nope, you've just made up 4 goals which haven't happened.

I disagree with the point on the goal. Yes it was a brilliant cross and finish, but Lindelof was in the right area and should have got his head to it before it hit Ronaldos foot. Shaw earlier in the game showed how it's done when he threw himself towards the ball and cancelled out the Juve chance.

It's not like this can't be learnt, but he needs to be braver.

Apart from the goal, which, to be fair to him, was a great ball and run to get in behind, he was fine. Really started to step up.

It was an inch perfect ball over the top. Give over is he expected to stop every single ball over the top. Its completely ridiculous criticism. We played balls over the top today too and Chiellini isn't just some magician who flies through the air and cuts them all out.

Either way it wasn't caused by his ill judgement, nor were the last 3 games which the other guy tried to make up.

Lads remember when Ferdinand completely lost Messi in the CL final and the shortest player on the pitch scored a header against us? Never rated the guy.

I just think generally he doesn't seem to muscle in. He isn't a small lad, but I don't think he dominates how he could. I think he needs that must win attitude. He has potential though and frankly he wasn't brought as the dominant defender. His distribution was supposed to be the bigger highlight.

Then watch more football, this kind of goal happens every time. Sometimes the pass and the forward run is just inch perfect that it's very stupid to blame the defender for this kind of goal

He is proving himself these days and against Juventus that has to be considered a good showing. To be completely honest, I think we desperately want him to be better than he is and its perceivable in this thread. It wasn't a beastly performance at all. I would say Herrera did much more of a job defensively than him even.

If he keeps us this form we could ship him to Everton easily and get the money we paid for him. Jokes aside he's been quite good for us and helping us keep our winning form.

A player who was written off by the caf after couple of bad games. What a difference a run in the team and some confidence makes. Great to see.

Sure, 100m for Lindelof, he's best CB in the world, We will spend on the likes of Koulibaly and Shrinker, etc but they're not as good as Lindelof, get him before we increase his price to 150m.

Wish we could throw in Jones as a kicker but it would be a deal breaker for Everton i suppose.

Well that has tended to happen to almost every player other than Martial the past 2 years. Even POTY Herrera got that treatment after being a fan favourite for an entire season.

Chiellini did not look too comfortable when we (they) scored our second. Even the best defenders struggle sometimes.

Then you don't watch them enough.

Had United conceded a goal like the second yesterday, everybody would say that it could never had happened to the Juve defence. Chiellini and the Juve defence are fantastic but it’s not like they had never been beaten by good forwards. As mentioned earlier, Ronaldo scored several times last year in the face of Juves central defence. And yesterday they first gave away a free kick leading to the first goal, and then screw up on the second.

He covered well for that goal but his inexperience let him down imo.

Normal player would have brought that ball down first and Lindelof could be in front of him, but Ronaldo is just out of this world with that goal.

Can't blame him, it was Ronaldo's brilliance.

He's convinced me in the last few games. I think he'll turn out into a great defender if he keeps developping because he's still young but his qualities are so obvious. When he'll become more of a beast in terms of physical battles and being a mean fecker to strikers

But he is a pretty boy at this moment. I don't see him improve that in the near future.

I was one of his greatest critics when he was bad, but he's been very solid lately. Great signs of improvement. I'd fecking love it if he makes me eat my words and goes all the way.

Trying to blame him for the goal reminds me of when people tried to give Evra shit for Ronaldo's goal when he leaped 10th fecking floor.

He's been tremendous again.

Good comparison. Blaming him there shows who is clueless about football and who isn't, great pass+great run. Sometimes there is nothing a player can do

Expected our cbs to be beaten by ronaldo at least once in two games, other than that lindelof has been top notch with the little protection matic and pogba gives him defensively.

People that are seriously trying to blame him for Ronaldo’s goal have never actuallly played football. What Ronaldo did there was phenomenal. That stuttered timed run and accerlation is enough but the finish is just mind blowing. You don’t defend that. It’s like bashing de gea for not rushing out to save that. The only possible adjustable variable in this scenario would have been more pressure on bonucci so he doesn’t deliver an inch perfect pass.

Lindelof is becoming increasingly dominant. He’s also bursting with confidence. His drive with the ball out of defence dribbling past Ronaldo was admirable and inspiring

He is growing in confidence and improving with regular game time, next step is to display his ball playing ability along with continued progression to his defensive game.

If I remember correctly one of the posters here did mention he tend to struggle initially but would certainly rise to the challenge hopefully that's seems to be happening here.

Has Lindelof finally turned it around? Looks like a completely different player to last year. His next game will be his toughest of the season. Hoping to see him continue in the same vein.
