Jones is a very good defender and just by looking at his reaction when he went down on the ground.. he himself knows that he is playing well and just needs some luck. I am hoping that he recovers soon.
Jones is our best defender mate, shame he is made of glass. Lets hope it's not serious because Lindelof worries me against the opposition we are facing next.

I wish people would stop bringing up Vidic. When he struggled at least he still showed bravery, but was a bit rash, sort of like Bailly. Lindelof is nothing like Vidic. I'm not really sure what his qualities are.... I mean sure if you give him all the time and space in the world, he can carry the ball out of defense and pick out a pass.
Well said. Vidic was always a rough diamond, at the very least. Even when raw, he still had hunger and fight in him. Different class.

Is there a worse CB in the league in the air than him?

Give him time, but he's starting from such a low level of ability in the air I can't see him improving that weakness to a level good enough for United.

Buttner did better than he has so far.

Where the feck is Bailly? Rojo better hurry up as well. Stop paying the injuried players, that'll teach them.

Let's just play blind in defence. Lindelof should be banned from first team training the way schweinsteiger was. Find a new club or train alone. Incompetence cannot be tolerated.

Could see him being a big success at a European club, his style isn't suited to the Prem. Too timid around height and physicality. Shades of Pique at Bolton today.

He needs to wake up to the reality of the PL. He’s not up for a physical battle enough. At the moment he looks like he should be at Liverpool.

That's a bit strong isn't it - that bad ?.....Surely not....

I'm not usually one to criticize our own players, I'm generally very bias towards them with my red tinted specs. But the guy you quoted is correct, i have been saying for weeks how he wouldn't look out of place at Liverpool.

He needs to be dropped to the reserves and Tuanzebe take his place, because he will continue to gift goals to the opposition. I really don't know what Jose was thinking when he bought him.

Exactly. We also have Tuanzebe and Fosu-Mensah coming through, it's not like we desperately need him in the long run.

I was right on Memphis, right on Schneiderlin and I'll be proven right with this guy. We need to cut our losses and get rid of him in January.

He is 'one for the future' and so I forgive him any mistakes he makes this season. IF he has talent (like DDG, Rio, Rashford etc), then these experiences will quickly turn him into a great player.

But it does beg the question why we signed him when we have similar status players like TFM and Tuanzebe at the club - why have they been sidelined over him?

Good question. That kinda money, you buy what seems like a sure thing (even if there is no guarantee). Initial reports from Portuguese fans were worrying and we're seeing the confirmation each game.

Not sure what the initial reports were but from what I have seen for ManUtd, Tuanzebe looks more accomplished player both defensively and on the ball.

What i find weird about his defending is, i don't know if anybody else has noticed this, he is very easy to turn inside out, almost all of the goals we have conceded with him has been with an attacking player faking to shot and then coming inside, infact against Basel was it? he was turned inside when he almost gave away the penalty. Today was the same Tom ince faked to shot and came inside and he left him dead. In fact in a preason match a striker turned him inside and scored as well. So its not only him finding it tough in the league due to physicality issue, but its definitely a defending issue. And i am baffled how a club like us would not have noticed this during his scouting. Either he was a Prime Maldini in Portugal or we didn't do our homework well enough, because a defender getting turned this easily is surprising, specially a player worth 35M.

Yeah. I suspect he is at least 18 months away from hitting top PL standards, and that's fine, given his age and background.

He’s a 23 year old defender that plays like an in experienced 18 year old. He really really looks out of his depth.

Hopefully he can turn it around.

With these displays I figure i should call him "Lundelof". At least i would be a tad bit amused and be right whenever he makes more mistakes.

For those of you who think, oh let's give him time, let's loan him out and give him some experience, let's wait for him to come good,..... We are the richest club in football other than psg. We can afford to buy players who are ready, we don't need to buy projects that we have to wait 3 years for. Besides he's 23 not 19, he should be able to do the basics. Money isn't the issue, make an example of him so other players will not think they can get away with putrid performance. Let's just not play him anymore till the summer and see him miss the world cup.

He doesn't look like a centre back at all. He looks like a midfielder who is on to do a job in defence. And I'm not sure he is good enough as a midfielder either.

an extra 20 million and we could have brought van dijk who was already made for the premier league.

I was just going to say the same, he looks like Carrick when he's been called upon to play centreback, the one thing I noticed if he's that good with the ball at his feet why was Matic coming back to take the ball off him and the other defenders?

This one is on Jose, any other manager would have trusted his two enormous talents in Tuanzebe and TFM for the third \ fourth CB role, not gone and splurged more than 30mill on someone inferior to them even though being older than both.

Money could have been spent on a LB.

I agree with this. He is so ponderous that he looks like someone filling in at CB rather than someone who has played there all of his career.

I'm sorry but no amount of "time" will turn a mule into a Derby winner and no amount of time will turn Lindelof into a Utd CB. We should make an example of him, take the £10-15n we could get back and stick with Axel and TFM

Getting seriously exposed in the PL.

Still early in his Man Utd career, but this season could break him already if he keeps perfoming like that.

Tbf, it took a fecking solid brass neck for him to do the "Calm down" gesture at DDG a couple of times today. Made me think of this:

A little "welcome to the premier league" about this. This performance was certainly a "there is much work ahead young man" moment.

I struggle to see where his potential as a defender lies. Not based on this game but in general. Physically he seems weak. He is not fast and he is not strong in the air. Nor does he seem to have the toughness in the tackle. His indeciveness might be a confidence thing, but is worrying. Decent with the ball maybe, though he hasn't seemed better than Jones, Rojo or Bailly in that department either, and that is in any event not enough to be a starting central defender for us. Willing to give him time, but I have some doubts about his potential.

IMO the manager has to take the blame for his performance. Mourinho admitted that Lindeloff wasnt ready for the PL, but instead if using Blind who is experienced in this league he put on Lindeloff. He took a massive risk with Lindeloff and it failed.

His transfer made sense as we had so many injuries and if you don't want to trust in club's youth players.

Except it has not so far. You would expect him to be far more polished than he is right now. TFM and Tuanzebe could have done that.

We have 2 other good or even better ball playing defenders in Blind and Rojo as well.

His aerial ability is very concerning. He is pretty shit at it atm. You can't play for a top club with that let alone in EPL.

What is worrying is that I don't know if you can train to get better at it. I think it is one of those you either have it or you don't.

But, it is too early to say and all that.
