So far he's start to UTD career has been greatly underwhelming.

Mistakes, bad positioning, late to the challenges...

Hope he can gather his composure and turn things around.

As it stands I don't see him as a starter at all, not even as a first choice backup option.

He is our future Vidic.

No, he's not. How is this comparison still a thing. If anything, Lindelof's projected potential makes him more like Rio, not Vidic. The only player possibly being a relevant comparison to Vidic, is Bailly. Heck, even Rojo is more similar to Vidic than Lindelof.

What is it that draws this comparison? Appearances? Even though they look nothing alike, apart from being caucasian and wearing the #15? As if it's the only criteria that needs to be met. Because comparing Lindelof to Vidic makes no sense whatsoever as they are different type of players. It's actually beyond irrelevant at this point.

Anyway. Lindelof has had a rough pre-season but I think he'll eventually come around. However, I still don't understand how Lindelof became the one player we identified to be our new ball-moving centre-back, as I'm not sure that he can reach the heights expected of him.

I wonder why we instead didn't go after, say… Aymeric Laporte. 23 years of age but already pretty experienced, with 140+ first team appearances in La Liga, in a pretty decent club which is Athletic Bilbao. Just an example.

He'll be fine. Can't write him off after he's just signed and played one (sort of) competitive game in which he was alright. He will need some time. Not everyone fits right in like Bailly and he will have to earn the right to start. With Rojo coming back he's probably a backup to Bailly and Rojo right now which is fine. He'll get enough games and I'm positive he'll grow into a good player for us for years to come.

I was looking forward to seeing Bailly+Lindelof as our first-choice pairing going into the season but, understandably, Smalling will probably be Bailly's partner for WHU.

I think Lindelof is gonna have a season that tests his mettle. He's gonna find first team starts hard to come by unless Smalling has a 'mare.

Although, Jones will be injured by September though and Rojo remains to be seen how he returns from injury.

I honestly don't think Jose bought him to be an immediate starter in the first XI.

I have confidence that Lindelof will come good, and possibly by the end of the season/start of next he'll have found his feet and rediscovered his Iceman form.

But I think Jose will continue to rotate with Bailly & Smalling as the preferred central duo, Jones rotates for one of the aforementioned depending on CL/Cup game weeks, and Lindelof providing depth. It's not guaranteed that Rojo will immediately rediscover his Nov '16 - March '17 form after injury, so that will be assessed when he returns.
Tuanzebe I think should go on loan, he wont get much game time unless we suffer another injury crisis.

I haven't been encouraged by his showing so far either. I can say that I do have confidence in Jose to play guys that are really clicking.... If he was able to handle Wayne's situation (which was complicated) then he can handle this one.

José Mourinho said:
"We have 25 percent left which means one of four -- we got a central defender that can play many other positions which is very important. Victor [Lindelof] can play right-back, centre midfield."

Like I said a while back – don't be surprised if Lindelof plays in the centre of the pitch sometime. It would presumably be as a defensive midfielder.

My work here is done.

/one of the Einsteins ;)

If he does not win one of the starting CB roles Mourinho might use him as a DM late in matches like he did with Zouma a few years ago.

thought he was okay yesterday. I think it's obvious that he'll need quite some time to settle in and find his rhythm ... if it weren't for those idiotic Bailly/Jones suspensions, he wouldn't have started yesterday and Mourinho would have sheltered him more during the first few weeks and months. It's a huge step from the Portuguese league to the Premier League and even more so from Benfica to United, maybe not everyone can take such a step with as much ease as Bailly. Calling him a waste of money, coward or whatever is way premature IMO, he clearly needs time to adapt and I'll withhold judgement for a couple of months.

While the first part is totally true, I cannot agree with the latter

I haven't seen any game yet, but I'm confident that Lindelof will settle. Unfortunately, Benfica's defense misses him too much

No Lindelöf in the squad for the 1st Premier League game. Is he injured or is it a consequence of his poor pre-season?

He is a bit shit, of course he isnt in the squad, we only need one CB on the bench. He is a liability at the moment

Probably the poor pre-season because there hasn't been talks of injury.

As we've learned with Jose, if you arent on board with his instructions, you simply wont get a game until you learn his way. The dodgy pre-season may have cost him, which is perfectly fine if it makes him a better player in the end.

He's behind Jones and Smalling at the moment. He's going to have to really impress in training to get game time.

It's alright. First 6 months should be considered a bedding-in period for him. His season starts from December/January, when we will rotate because of the heavy fixtures and he can come in.

But by then Rojo and Shaw will be back, and Blind reverts back to fighting for a CB position.

Clearly, one of Smalling and Jones is not in Jose's plans. Once Lindelof steps us, I expect one of those to be phased out.

Now we know who's the next victim of José's bullying of individuals.

1. Martial
2. Lindeloeaf.
3. Herrera

Mhiki is probably totally submissive now after a full year of mental break down. I wonder if players will think twice before putting their signature on a contract with Man United when they see all the things going on. I don't think people fully understands or can accept what is going on. Just look what happened at Chelsea and the picture will get a bit clearer. Their squad had some strong individuals who wouldn't stand for his bullying of players.

 All that because they're benched?

Bullying Herrera? :wenger:
Why would we need to start with 3 midfielders at home v West Ham? We are begging for some attacking football so stop moaning as Matic and Pogba should be enough in midfield.
Plus Herrera was very poor v Real Madrid so it makes sense.

After his poor pre-season I can understand Mourinho not throwing him in against West Ham first day of the season. Only thing is he'll need to get some game time under his belt before the CL starts.

"The ritual.....of the bullying ritual...."

Why pay £35m for a defender not even capable of a start in front of Jones or Smalling? even worse he can't make the bench wtf is that about.

Don't worry, Mourinho is giving him the Mkhitaryan treatment. If we get bounced into the Europa League this winter we can expect Vic to put in some commanding performances against Genk and Israel's third best team.

We'll see who's joking when the guy is not on the bench next game as well. Things can turn UGLY very fast with José.

I reckon Mourinho will be accused of bullying Bailly by you in our first Champions League game.
