he looked sad after the final whistle, I hope he can be better after this lose, especially with how the first goal happen from his area.

It was his best game with us. I don't think he did much wrong except for positioning with his block a bit better before De Gea's great parade. First goal was linesman's fault and regarding the second you have Valencia and Darmian daydreaming. Quite solid display, though it happened with 3 defenders at the back. It's probably in a sense because of his unconvincing showing in preseason that Mourinho had chosen such cautious formation.

He certainly does play within himself. It seems he's struggling with the emotional side of a big club move, like many before him has. If he works through that, he's going to be another player.

Maybe I'm harsh on Lindelof but at this point of time I see Tuanzebe as better player. He lacks experience big time but Tuanzebe is very confident young player and has very good physical presence, not to forget he is good on the ball too.

thought he was okay yesterday. I think it's obvious that he'll need quite some time to settle in and find his rhythm ... if it weren't for those idiotic Bailly/Jones suspensions, he wouldn't have started yesterday and Mourinho would have sheltered him more during the first few weeks and months. It's a huge step from the Portuguese league to the Premier League and even more so from Benfica to United, maybe not everyone can take such a step with as much ease as Bailly. Calling him a waste of money, coward or whatever is way premature IMO, he clearly needs time to adapt and I'll withhold judgement for a couple of months.

Does he have a very shy personality off the pitch? I wonder if that could play a part on it, it seems like he's so within himself the way he played so far

He grew out of a terrible performance over the match. So that's a bit encouraging. There isn't a tougher test than being thrown at the deep end in front of this Madrid team and hopefully he will gain a lot from this. I would still rather that he took the bad performances out of his system while in the preseason and this Madrid game than the PL, etc. Plus, hopefully Jose will now be able to ease him into the first team with the likes of Baily and Jones available for the PL.

Think we dropped a b*ollock with this one. Looks out of his depth and just not very good really

These sort of comments are just unbelievably dumb.

Vidic, Evra, Stam. All three were proper shite for us at first. If it tells us one thing, it's that you have to give defenders time to adapt and show what they can do.

He looks a bit passive. While that's not necessarily always bad he does have to impose himself more. Yesterday there were some moments where he just backed off.

He wasn't when Ronaldo came on. Gave away 2 free kicks in the space of a couple of minutes.

First time I've seen him for the full 90 and whilst I wasn't impressed I didn't think he was that bad. Certainly no grounds to write him off yet and especially against a Real Madrid team with that much talent. I trust that the club have seen something in him to suggest he can perform at this level and his issues initially might be mental ones. Be interesting to see whether Mourinho trusts him to start against West Ham.

Time will tell. Just because someone has a different opinion to you, doesnt mean that they are dumb. Happily in some countries we still have free speech

What the feck? Calling an opinion dumb doesn't infringe on free speech. It is in fact the epitome of free speech.

We just lost 2-1 to the best club team in the world and reading all of the player threads you'd think we just been battered by relegation fodder.

The caf, fecking hell.

I don't think people should be shitting on him for the first goal, he was playing Cas offside, it's the officuals who got it wrong, not Victor.

He referred to the comment and I agree with him. Way too early to be writing him off already.

He does look a bit shaky now but fingers crossed he comes through it. I could see him dropped for Sunday though. He might go with Smalling and Bailly.

Go to sleep ffs he was dreadful at both goals. First goal he should have adjusted his feet radians opened his shoulders (awareness shocking there) second goal he was about 5 yards off where he should have been. He's been dreadful since signing almost a mistake or goal a game. Yes it's worrying but doesn't mean the kid won't come good but he needs to start shaping up soon as looks the 5th best out of or centre backs from what I've seen so far and if he carries on in this form he may struggle to oust an inform Jones or Smalling as Bailly is a nailed on starter.

He's got bags of potential. Reckon by November he'll look fantastic alongside Bailly. He's under the right manager if he wants to improve as a centre half.

The first goal was offside, there is never a case where the defender can be blamed tor that.

Rubbish it was inches regardless if he was offside or not he should be adjusting his body position regardless and giving himself the option to play offside or go with the run. Lindelof in this case because he was ball watching didn't have a clue what was behind him.

Adrian Durham saying earlier it was a heads-gone that we bought Lindelof when we had first option on Keane who is Premier League proven. Discuss.

Different players, Mourinho has clearly scouted Lindelof a long time.

I think so far he looks a bit casual and he needs to adapt. That said, he does look like he has quite a calm style on the ball. Mourinho is a brilliant defensive coach. Might take time but could well work out - as for premiership proven, we have 5 centre backs that are that already

He was poor in the shit on a stick 352 but did fine in the back 4 in the 2nd half. Nothing to see here.

I wouldnt buy another CB but dont understand why people shit on this guy, he didnt look great in preseason so what? We are not all the same,he will need time to adapt and he will improve. Glad i wasnt around during first 6 months of Vidic, some would calling for him to be sold like they did last summer for Rojo.

And Lindelof is Champions League proven with a pedigree for winning trophies. Kind of gazumps one season at a side that just about starved off relegation really.

Wasn't it being said that we went for Keane but he insisted on having a guarantee first choice option, so we turned to Lindelof ?

I'll try to not be harsh on him and convince myself he's one of these players that need time to settle in the team. Fortunately we have many other options in his position so he can rest on the bench till he settles and we go the more settled and better options currently. There's no big pressure on us or him to play.

He played ok yesterday,we need to give him time. I think he is going to be a good defender for us or I hope anyway.

Typical England fan. He still thinks Wayne Rooney is world class. I wouldn't take his heavily blinkered opinion on England players seriously.

Ooh, get you, free speech and everything... I'll keep quiet from now on.

Regardless of this specific conversation, having an opinion does not give your opinion equal status to others' (though the majority of UK and US residents appear to believe otherwise these days).

On this issue, well you're just totally wrong. It has been empirically proven that a defender's performances in their first season... sorry, first few matches... sorry, pre-season... cannot be taken as a guide to their long term prospects. If you've watched VL extensively previously (certainly didn't come across like that from you post), then I'll give you some credence and withdraw the above point. But even then I'm not sure I trust the judgement of Phil Jones 79 off the internet ahead of Mourinho and our entire scouting network.

We'll never know but it wouldn't surprise me if Keane was first choice but he wanted to be a clear first XI player which we couldn't guarantee him. Something Lindelof was happy to accept.

Let's give him some time to adjust and some games before we start passing our judgement. Moving from Portuguese league to EPL isn't really Cake walk.

He is our future Vidic.
Vidic struggled massively for few months, then became one of the best CB at his prime.
Lindelof is our player now. He needs constructive criticisms, but some of the comments here are wum-like.
