Vicente moving...?

I am not nitpicking your posts and I don't really want to make it seem like I'm getting on your case here Marcello, but a lot of people here seem to be willing to pay £17m+ for an oft injured LW now, just that his name isn't Damien.

And none of those persons 'here' are named (Sir) Alex Ferguson. And he's only with Chelsea as Roman came along and floated them unlimited millions to splash. If SAF had mega millions from some billionaire, he could have afforded to risk 17m on an oft-injured LW who had yet to prove himself with a big club (big fish, small pond theory). Of course, had SAF had access to the funds Raneiri and Mourinho had/has, I'm sure Ronaldhino and Robben would probably be playing at OT on a regular basis.

You make some very good points, but I do not think Ronldinho was ever going to Manchester, just like I do not believe he will play in London. That is probobly the only point I disagree with you on.

We don't need him, especially with Giggs getting a new contract - infact we don't need much help in the way of transfers, with the exception of a possible move for Essien to replace Djemba. Other than that, we're well stacked.

Has your opinion changed or is it the same now?. We lack in the wing department and this is the first example of it. Reports say no Giggs and Ronaldo for the city match ... Imagine if it were the CL match with AC Milan :nervous:

This is why a player like Vicente if he were available should be on SAF's mind in the summer. In all honesty, i would try to buy 1 more winger before looking for Keanes successor if SAF plans to find one close to him.

Well, i disagree with that. We should be looking for Keane's replacement, then Giggs's replacement in that order.

We have 2 brilliant wingers already and just one Roy Keane. I dont see Keane's replacement, so id be more than happy seeing De Ridder or Vicente signed in the summer for the wing - But first priority is Keane, then Giggs.

Well, i feel we have alot of options in the centre then we do on the wings. Take now for instance, Giggs and Ronaldo are both out, if Ruud and Smith were fit then you would move Saha or Rooney out onto the left side and Smith out to the Right. But having Ruud and Smith out, now Giggs and Ronaldo out, your left with no wingers, 2 strikers. You could solve one problem by moving Rooney to the left and keeping Saha upfront, but then who plays on the right ? miller ? he isnt strong enough, neither is Fletch or Kleberson if they were fit.

With Keane, i feel Phill Neville is a pretty good solution if keano is ever to be out. Your not going to find an exact player like Keane, but players like Phil arent too far behind. Not as good but certainly a temporary solution.

Thats just how i look at things.

Then again, Theres nothing wrong with trying to solve two problems at the same time. Hopefully this summer we see another winger and a potential Keano figure in the team.

Look at it from a higher level. Vicente wont come to OT to play 2nd fiddle to either of our wingers, particularly when he could go to Barca, Juve, Real or somewhere else where they actually do need wingers and do very well for himself. There will be more world class wingers popping up, and i'm sure SAF will be all over them when the time is right.

Agree. We should try to replace Roy first.

Well, that's one Roy Keane more than most other teams. :wenger:

A legitimate contender to Keano's throne has to be priority #1 this summer. Everything else is really a distant 2nd priority.

I suppose your right Raoul. Giggs also has more years left in him then Keane does.

Giggs is younger and isn't planning on retiring, whereas Keane is. That's the priority. Plus you haven't addressed the likelihood that Vicente wouldn't sit around on the bench for a couple of years behind Giggs and Ronaldo.

If Vicente were to be available i really do hope united pounce for him. I also dont believe he would be second fiddle to anyone. Ronaldo is still growing and Giggs has shown he can play on the right. Giggs isnt getting younger and could do with breaks in between a hectic schedule. I dont see how SAF would have a problem in keeping Giggs,Ronaldo and Vicente happy. I really do feel he could have them all play an important role. But i suppose with Keane talking of retiring at the end of next season then perhaps Finding a Keano replacement is the perferred choice ahead of anything else. But to miss out on a player like Vicente because we dont think Giggs or Ronaldo will be happy is ludicrious. You dont dismiss players like Vicente for those reasons.

There's no doubting that Vicente is class, but what you're essentially suggesting is that he would either start infront of Ronaldo or Giggs or else be a squad player who is brought on to rest Ronaldo or Giggs. I think both scenarios are rather unrealistic. If that's the case then we can buy a player like Downing to fill in the gaps.

If Giggs retires and Vicente is available then we should buy him, but its rather pointless to spend a large sum of money on a world class backup winger when we could better spend it on a Keane replacement.

IMO. :)

I think Downing is more likely. Longer term prospect. And (go easy on me please) - if Glazer wins the battle Downing would be a cheaper long term option which would suit Glazer's pockets. Not that Glazer winning is likely.

Spot on. Even if Keano decides to stay on, we should get his successor in this summer so he can get familiarised with our system. Whoever the 'lucky' chap is, best of luck cos he's def going to need it.

This certainly beats going on a mad scramble after Keano retires. Can you imagine the amount of pressure his replacement'll be under if we leave it till then?

Did anybody notice what happened to us against city in the first half ? we looked shit, no shape, no spark and to be honest ordinary. The moment our wingers came back we looked back to normal again. Our biggest games, greatest victories was when at least one of our wingers were playing well. That is how we play best. Keane will be around for at least another year and we have short term replacements in Phil and Fortune, and the way it looks there is no signs of finding someone to replace Keane yet, but there is a replacement for Giggs here, and that is Vicente. we should grab the chance and not fcuk around like we did with Ronaldhino and Robben. We will replace Keane if we find the right person, but the right person to replace Giggs is becoming available to us.

Why buy Vicente now if Giggs is playing at a world class level. Seems wasteful and unrealistic to think that Vicente would come to OT for a high fee and sit on the bench for a couple of years until Giggs retires, when he could easily go to another club and play immediately.

Shame you can't afford him. Unless you use the Gerrard money, but then it won't be a winger that you will be needing.

VICENTE NOT FOR SALE

Soler (Valencia' s president) knows that the future of the club to happen for having Vicente and they will not commit the mistake of selling it.
Valencia' s fans we would not excuse it. Vicente just now is the emblem of the team.

It would be difficult, but in the football everything is possible.
Soler denied to be negotiated by Real Madrid and Vicente was incisive, he says to want to continue many years in the Valencia.

But... I do not know it. I hope that Vicente is a Valencia' s player always.

He is a very special player, that's true.

He sure is but with these Spanish players you always wonder if they will settle. Look at our situation, Reyes is struggling to come to terms with life here but Fabregas has settled perfectly has been nothing short of sensational. Last season Vicente was superb and at times was winning matches for Valencia himself and he was the main reason they won the title!

many players said that before, that they wont leave, love the club etc. but when there comes a big money offer, the club and the players agree in most of the cases. and valencia isnt the club who could say no to 20 millions or more! and other players left who were the heart and the star of the team.
so, IF there would be big money offered, both parties wouldnt refuse i think

i think vicente would settle abroad. he's tough and has a strong will, not as sensitive as reyes or kleberson for example

Fabregas was very good, but not sensational IMHO. If you want to give an example, then Alonso is the one. He was arguably the best player for Liverpool...
PS Why didn't Madrid buy him:(

Alonso really hasn't done anything constantly enough to suggest he is the best player for Liverpool.

IMO he is liverpool's best player, compare the liverpool or now and liverpool with alonso, very different,he gives them creativity and alot more.class player IMHO

Valencia winger Vicente expects to join a Premier League club on a free transfer this summer and will make a decision on his future in the next few days.

The 29-year-old is out of contract with Valencia at the end of this month after 11 years with the Primera Liga side.

Blackburn, Newcastle and top-flight newcomers Swansea have all been linked with a swoop for the former Spain international.

And Vicente admits he "desires to play in the Premier League" and is close to reaching a deal.

He told Spanish newspaper Superdeporte: "In a few days I will decide my future and it will be in England."

Vicente has notched up almost 250 appearances for Valencia since arriving from boyhood side Levante back in 2000.

Sorry for the old bump.

Always thought this was a very talented player, but unfortunately injuries have ruined him. 250 appearances in 11 years probably says it all. Vicente and Joacquin could both have gone on to have much better careers then what they did.

So where do you caftards think he is going to end up? The Toon just swiped Marveaux from under the noses of Pool apparently (). I'd think he'd be a good fit for Villa, with Young having moved on. Blackburn in with a shout?
