Wenger and Fergie fight for Vicente
Bitter rivals Arsenal and Manchester United are ready for another ding-dong battle. This time they will feud over the signature of Valencia's flying winger Vicente, who has put the Premiership on alert by announcing he wants to play in England. Vicente said: "I'd love to have a go in England. I really like the style of play in the Premiership."

Steve Millar, Daily Star

Well, it's from the Daily Star so it must be a load of bull**** but would be a tremendous move

how does he stack up to robben out of curiosity because i've never seen vicente play..just hear that he's good.

I rate him better than Jaquin, has attitude problem though.
Not much of a crosser, likes to get past defender and have a go himself.
If I am being honest then he will suit arse play more

From what i have seen he is a damn good player. I would rate him better then Robben. Would be a fine successor to Giggs ... infact you couldnt ask for any better.

GOod player. Quick, technically gifted, bit similar to our ronnie. Played very well for Spain World Cup last year.

Vicente is very much a crosser. A good one at that.

I disagree, Valencia's play is disimilar to ours, they hardly whip in crosses like us.
Ofcourse he can cross but most of the time I have seen him, he is played more like Robben plays for chelsea.

To keep you dreamin', Valencia is said to have financial difficulties...And they are just third in la Liga this year with fery few chances to get the Spanish title.

Might be the right time to go and get Vicente, but he must be very expensive :wenger:

Eh? Vicente to me isn't similar to ronaldo at all... more to the point, going for crosses (great at that), doesn't have the same amount of skill of a ronaldo or the mazy runs and pace of a Robben, scores goals, I'd say Downing is similar to him but obviously not close to being as good (yet?). He's a very effective left winger and maybe that's exactly what we need on the wings while Ronaldo is developing...

anyway, i still prefer shaun wright phillips, this guy can cross with left foot!
you cant compare SWP and Vicente, Vicente is miles better.

ermmm..i'm not sure about that..i see SWP play every week but hardly seen Vicente play..not sure if he's consistent

no its vicente
vicente is certainly not the player with the attitude player. while i was in alicante, i watche one game at the mestalla in valencia, but saw him a lot playing for spain and for valencia on tv. vicente is a very good left winger, i would even say one of the best, but has been injured for a long time.
he's certainly not in the ronaldo mould. he's technically gifted, but doesnt dribble as ronaldo does. he does it more like giggs, slalom, run at defenders. his crosses and passes are very good. he likes a very fast, short passing game, and he is physically strong, which is good for the epl. i think he would suit to us very well, and would be the best replacement for giggs so far. not sure if he wants to leave spain or his club though. but we should try everything to get him, imo

10m + kleberson

What is it with this forum and the belief that swapping players will happen in every move?

Kleb would have to agree to go, agree to a contract with them, and they would have to want him enough to sacrifice some money they would be recieving from the transfer and also have to add his wages to the bill (which would likely offset Vicente leaving), and add one more player to the squad.

Swapping players is more or less impractical.

Name: Vicente Rodríguez Guillen (Vicente)
Club: Valencia (Spa)
Position: LW
Nationality: Spain
Date of Birth: 16/07/1981 (turns 24 in July)
Place of Birth: Valencia, Spain
Height: 176 cm (5' 9 1/4")
Weight: 74 kg (163 lbs/11 stone, 9 lbs)
Contract Expiry: 06/2011

IMO, Valencia would request upwards of 20m...and considering that City would want big money for SWP (15m or so), I'd rather see that spent on the finished world class product Vicente.

I'm guessing we will buy two players,(and six or seven 16-17 year olds) in the summer, with only one of them being a 'big money' signing. I would rather the bulk of the money went on a central midfielder like De Rossi or Essien. We can look for a free winger (like Figo) for the short-term, and even play Rossi a bit, considering we don't play with wingers but attacking midfielders nowadays.

My impression of him is the opposite of yours.

From what I've seen he has a great attitude, always delivering a lot of great crosses without a lot of fancy stuff and works hard for the team.

He was the best winger in the world last season imo, but Ranieri is destroying the season for him, and players like Aimar. If a winger shall replace and work with Giggs next season, he is the one I want the most. Vicente and Ronaldo on the wings will give us the best wing pair in the world for years, and would probably mean a lot of goals for Ruud.

Actually, I think his attitude is suited for the PL, and he would work very well with Ronaldo. Ronaldo can do all the incredible stuff, and make magic out of nothing, while Vicente can deliver the crosses week in and week out, like Downing would do. The perfect pair.

I always thought it was joaquin that had the attitude problem.

get vicente.

sell players like kleberson, miller and few of the fringe players such as richardson, fox, heath etc.

the reason as even these fringe players are on a few thousand a week which will mean less of a wage bill and selling the then selling the likes of kleberson and miller will bring in a few million which we could use to buy vicente.

there is genuinly no better left winger out there besides giggs and robben! he's better than duff!

Vicente is a proven class winger. His has an excellent left foot (similar to Downing) and since last season he has been getting amongst the scoresheet more often. Unfortunately this season he has been plagued with injuries and should any club inquire about him the asking price will be very high.
The ideal choice to replace Giggsy.

I personally feel the club can wait another summer to sign a LW as Giggs clearly has at least one more solid season in him. This summer should address two immediate needs.

1) Keane successor or a defensive midfielder that can step in immediately.
2) A consistent keeper, especially if Carroll leaves or SAF gives up on Timmy. (Cudicini or Niemi come to mind)

IMO, left wing can wait another season...unless Downing or Vicente plead for United to come sign him.

From what I've seen of him you can't really compare him to Robben, I'd say he's a hybrid of Giggs and Downing. Not quite as technically good or as much of a dribbler as Giggsy, but certainly superior to Downing. He sticks more to the wing rather than coming inside a lot like what Giggs does these days, and has a better cross than Giggs ever had. Certainly not Beckham-like, but probably almost as good as Downing's crosses.

If we can't get Robben (and we can't), Vicente is the best option out there bar none.

Can't see it happening. There are other clubs who need Vicente more than us. We're probably going to go after players like Essien in the summer.
