Veteran Del Piero To Leave Serie A

He should come to Southampton. Going to Australia might be a tempting idea but at this point he doesn't really need an extra €500k a year they could probably offer to lure him on top of what Southampton would pay, and to test himself in another stron European league would pose a great challenge. He could probably still score 10 goals in a season for Southampton.

All depends on whether he still thinks he has what it takes. Never good to see a former great unable to cut it, and if he thinks he can't he may take the easy option.

Hate to see him leave Europe but thank feck he's not joining Liverpool.

I'd be glad if he didn't go to Liverpool - for the reasons others have said; can't dislike a legend like him.

Seems then that Liverpool are actually trying to recruit someone else; with Owen off the market, how much longer until the Robbie Fowler or Heskey dream becomes a reality? :D

Is Kewell still playing?

Liverpool Bid for Del Piero Confirmed

However, Sydney chief executive Tony Pignata remains hopeful the former Italy international will move to Australia.
"Liverpool have come in ... and they're a big club, there's no denying that," Pignata told Fox Sports. "But I think the attraction of Australia might sway us.
"I'm still confident but until we get that signature on a piece of paper, you never know. We've done as much as we can to get this deal over the line.
"We're all anxious. I'm sure there's a lot of fans out there hanging on to get a decision. We've just got to be patient. We've only been in these negotiations for a week and sometimes these sort of negotiations take longer.
"We'll know soon one way or the other."

Jizzing all over the world.

Part of me would actually prefer to see him go to Liverpool.

From a footballing sense a move to Oz or the States is effectively retiring. He was a wonderful player and I would like an opportunity to see him play in the PL. Plus I doubt he is going to fire Liverpool to any kind of glory.

I sincerely hope he comes to Sydney. It would tempt me to a game or two of the dross that is A-League next year.

As I said in the other thread couple of million a year to play 27 games, play and train in great weather and have the entire european spring and summer off. At his age, who the flying feck would want to waste their time coming off the bench for Celtic or Liverpool in shit conditions (in liverpools case, a shit hole). Neither club have a hope in hell/can't of achieving top honors in europe, Liverpool won't win a cup this season and winning the SPL is on about the same level of MLS or A-League if not slightly worse given Celtics advantage.

Great move if he signs for FC and great for football in Australian in general. Such a legend of the game who hasn't sold out to some shitty arab league or china.

Ah. The rustling of jimmies. Complete with gratuitous slurs against China and Arabia.

He wouldn't tarnish his image with the Juve fans by going to Liverpool anyway.

Why is going to China or an Arab league worse than going to Sydney FC?

Sure they may pay him more, but their leagues are probably better than the Oz one

Randall they are a billion times better than the A-League.

It is a strange comment but we are a developing nation in terms of quality football and the experience and the bums on seats he'll bring will be excellent I would imagine.

I am absolutely stoked.

Bonza, mate. I'm off down to Lassiter's for a beer.

He did reasonably well for Juventus in his last two seasons there, didn't he? Although looking at his record he only scored 3 goals in 23 appearances last year but he always had more to his game than just goals.

Arab leagues are far better than Australian, I don't know much about China but looking at the quality of players who have gone there recently - Conca, Barrios, Drogba and Anelka include - I suspect it might be a bit better too. China is also as attractive as Australia as a country. Is there even a single widely recognised in A-League?

Zappone made a good point on FSN that if he feels like he still has a lot to offer in a playing sense, then you can understand that he chose Sydney, where he'd probably start 75% of games (I might be exaggerating) over a ~35 game season, over places like Liverpool, Sion and Soton where'd he'd be used most likely (probably) as an option off the bench.

Buzzing that this has happened. 30 days to go. Cannot wait.

Because the only thing attracting players to those league's is the outrageous level of money being thrown at them. Also I dare say the arabic league's aren't at all that much better than the A-League.

And what attracts players to A-League?

Well, Australian clubs enter the Asian Champions League and they don't do as well as Arab clubs, do they?

So go to an Arab league which is slightly better than the A League and get loads of dosh, or go to the A League and get less money and its a weaker league.

You are not selling it too well.

I agree, he's not, but I can see what he's getting at.

Reporters on FSN made mention of his young family. They'd have to be somewhere near the front in his thinking over this move. Australia would have to be a better place to raise your family than somewhere in the ME, no?

I absolutely wouldn't raise a young family in Australia, no chance. But that's probably for a different thread.

Which thread? Because I can't understand that statement.

Well that is odd because Australia is a really great place to raise kids.

Which thread? Because I can't understand that statement.

Standard of education over here is pretty poor compared to at home, at least is what my friends who are teaching over here tell me. They can't get over it and I'd take their word for it, some of them are pretty experienced in both Ireland and Australia. Plus teenage Australian males seem to have serious self esteem issues in general.

Not really a football forum topic though.

Adelaide made the final fairly early on.

I don't really see what it matters anyway. If the move was motivated by money then I don't really know what we are arguing. He could really have gone to any club that wanted him. He's a decorated player and doesn't really have much to prove.

He also has young family and I dunno not trying to sound racist but I'd be wary of them growing up in the middle east over Western Europe or East Asia or Oceania.

I don't even know what I am arguing now. I'm just fecking stoked I get to see him/meet him and watch him play in the flesh.

The thread that was deleted for being skullcrushingly stupid?

Reading the Sydney FC FB page and tons of Juve fans have flooded it with messages.

Even as a red, it makes me smile that they're taking in Sydney as a second team.
