Macallister was literally completely faced away from the ball fouling tarkowski and not a peep, a replay or anything.
Jota was offside and impacted play before the goal. Not a peep.
This is getting ridiculous

He also let Tarkowski away with that horrendous foul. The ref was fairly useless all round.

The tarkowski tackle while very strong is something that was applauded 5 years ago and a way for a defender to let the other player know he was there.
Its very subjective.
The offside was offside 15/10/5 years ago. Its not subjective at all
 
Some incredibly bad decisions tonight. The Tarkowski challenge is such an obvious red and Villa and Brentford were both denied stonewall penalties. I refuse to believe there's a league anywhere else in the world with a poorer standard of referee right now.
 
I wonder if that Liverpool goal will generate the same number of headlines as the Bruno goal against city a few years ago.

Just came on here to mention the villa one, absolute stone wall penalty. Incredible that it just gets waved away.

They could show the Takowski challenge in ref school just to see how a red should look. That’s how obvious that was. I’m sick of it because someone is going to get their leg broken in this derby at some point. The media needs to come out once in a while and say obvious red or obvious penalty in these terrible decisions we see week in and week out against all teams. Instead the media has headlines asking us if it should be a penalty or a red. We all know blatant non calls when we see it and so do they. Gutless

I've no idea what media you're talking about. The pundits at half time were quite strong that it should have been a red and there's countless articles online saying the same.

Nah. The print or online media never really come out and say”that was red”. It’s always a “ controversial decision”. Just say what it is. Put pressure on this constant ineptitude. Pundits have opinions, yes so they might say it but mainstream media who are in bed with the league wont just say what we see week in and week out. It’s not just this red, it’s all the easy decisions that VAR misses all the time for every team including yours.

I get what you're saying, but it's the media's way of generating clicks. Something stonewall becomes "contentious" or "debateable". Something that was never an offence also moves into that middle "controversial" ground. I assume it's a deliberately provocative position to get people to respond.

Agree, not quite as bad as the one Oliver missed a few weeks ago, but similar. You shouldn't need VAR to know that challenge was a red 8 days a week.

Yeah Liverpool get a really hard time in the media, you've got a great point.
 
Are we going to have a week's worth of debate in the media about the offside law like we did when Rashford was offside vs City a couple of years ago?
 
Controversial opinion but I don't think that should be a red card. I think player safety debates have been taken too far. Tarkowski was first to the ball by a long margin and that should matter at some level at least.

Whether he’s first to the ball or not is not relevant.

The Millwall keeper got to the ball first.

It’s dangerous play. Yes, if you go back 20 years it’s not a red card. But it’s the sort of tackle that can break a leg and end a career.
 
If he’d sent off Tarkowski he’d have been suspended for the weekend game against Arsenal…so…in actual fact…it was part of a bigger plan to ensure Liverpool ultimately benefited from the decision.

That was a stinker of a decision and I'm not defending how inept PGMOL are. I'm just saying any inconsistency is down to ineptness, not bias.

It’s the reaction to the mistakes where the difference lies. A blunder against Liverpool leads to a public apology and refs getting stood down. United don’t enjoy that treatment, unfortunately

Liverpool have been on the wrong side of plenty of decisions too. I* don't claim bias any time it goes against us, even when it's cost us titles against City.

*Some Liverpool fans do of course.
 
It should have been a red and it was silly from Tarkowski.

The referees, not for the first time nor the last time this season, crumbled again.
 
It's so bad and expected that the refs will make mistakes, that Sky had many extracts of the rulebook ready to be shown on screen.
The main ref not seeing it is bad but for Var to clear it is terrible. Probably didn't want to "ruin the game".

That was seven years ago though. The laws around this sort of thing have changed a lot since then.

Back then there was more of a debate around it whereas now it's widely accepted by everyone that it was a clear red card.

The only person I've seen say that Tarkowski wasn't a red is Joey Barton, which tells you everything you need to know!
