van Gaal joins: Official

I don't think our hierarchy will have issues with Van Gaal as well. We give our manager a lot of leeway, look at how much Moyes got away with.

This. If there's one thing LVG will appreciate, it's how we give the manager a lot of leeway until it gets so bad beyond a point of no return... something that is not very likely to happen with a man of his pedigree. For him to have huge authority in football operations is probably something he wanted for a long time.

Exactly this. His problems at Barcelona/ Bayern stemmed from internal politics and continental clubs considering their manager to be mere cogs in the machine : dispensable "coaches" with their Sporting Directors and interfering Presidents and whatnot. A United we've always considered the manager to be the most important man at the club, given them supreme control of all facets of the game. So for a man who always craved that at his previous clubs, Van Gaal would never feel the need to complain at all.

What's funny is that I had an inkling this guy could potentially be our manager back when we clashed with Bayern in the 2nd leg Champions League QF four years ago, where they essentially had us sussed out. I thought, during the game, that Van Gaal was a proper great and that he could replace Ferguson. But after Fergie's retirement a year ago, I never even thought of Van Gaal as a possibility, he wasn't in the consciousness of United fans. But, here he is. This man coached some great teams and it's awesome to have him here.

They didn't have us sussed out as I remember it. Until the sending off I thought we looked the better side. Granted, they absolutely shat on us when we were down to 10 though.

I think you'll find my knowledge of the situation is absolutely fine, thank-you.

Firstly, let's remove some of the myths of your post. Manchester United consistently spent the most money of any team in the league for a long time, and the reason they've been outstripped by Chelsea and Man City is because those two sides needed huge investment to make the difference up.

You also seem to have the view that Moyes' season was just a one-off caused by a rubbish manager. I'll grant you he wasn't the right manager, but his effect has been overstated.

Fundamentally, United are a tired side with a great need for a sizeable personnel and mentality change. We're talking here about a complete redevelopment of the back four, a complete rethink of the centre of midfield, and probably 5-8 players leaving this summer.

This is a huge job. To suggest LVG comes in and just instantly turns you into title winners is beyond ridiculous. It would be an astonishing achievement, even if he did notionally resolve all of the issues in your squad in one summer.

Top four is your aim this year, no matter what you reveal to the press. That's the realistic progression.
If oue aim after the shocker of a year we've had is the same as that of arsenals of every single year, then that's pretty great.

Would piss myself laughing if we had another summer like '95. Sell loads of players and bring no one other than youngsters.

Does "youngsters" matches the definition of Luke Shaw if any? We could live long with gifted youngsters like him.

Not to mention that we held them at arms length in Munich like an adult holding an kid by the forehead until Paddy went to sleep in the last 5 minutes.

Would be delighted. Do you think we could finish 15th for a while and get rid of all the OOoooots and T. MAPPITS as well?

Totally in your camp dewd... love it if in a year or two to have ten people to discuss what size of horse we should buy to sit on with our laptops and talk football on this forum.

Disregarding the rules and I feel worse than I should because I know you are a wum, but I just can't help myself.

You are a complete cnut, a totaalcunt for the sake of this thread. I hope you die at the hands of many wasp stings.

Sorry mods.

Van Gaal - "I seen a lot of Kagawa when he was at Dortmund. He was the best player in Germany. I expect the same in Manchester"

That's doing the rounds on social media sites, not found a source though so could be bull.

Great, Shinji got a new chance to show his worth. I believe he will shine under LvG just like Mata, Januzaj, RvP and Rooney. Thank God Moyes didn't get the chance to sell Kagawa.

Seems to be fake.

Kagawa has been shit compared to the hype under 2 United managers. He'll be a lucky boy if he gets another chance under a third.

good for kagawa if van gaal said that but he still needs to produce the goods when he is given the chance. not that moyes had given him the minutes that he wants but when he plays i've got to say he rarely impress much. not even close to the heights of his dortmund days.

I don't think that Van Gaal quote is the positive for Kagawa people are making out. Basically calling him out on his lack of performances for 2 years, imo.

For some reason I don't really find that quote believable. If someone has a source though then I'd love to be corrected. I didn't see much of Kagawa at Dortmund, so i'd love him to fulfill the hype that people have for him.

In my opinion, you talk a lot of shit at times. But that post is completely fair. I think people who are expecting us to just go back to business as usual are a bit off their rockers personally and if we ended up with top 4 at the end of next season i'd be pretty pleased with that progress. It would be an achievement of herculean proportions if we won the title next season, this squad needs too much work for that to be realistic. We'll see though, it's a funny old game.

Winning the league would be a Herculean achievement. Getting back into the top 4 is very doable tho. It depends to some extent on how our summer goes but I don't think 3rd is unrealistic at this stage.

Herculean is a bit of a stretch. A couple of midfielders and a fit Van Persie and we'll have a great shout...(Oh and no David Moyes)

Its a fine summary of him tbf.

Of course he will get another chance. You can't compare players to the hype, forget the hype, watch them yourself and judge. He was good when Fergie was in charge, lost confidence and struggled to adjust to shit football under Moyes. I have no doubt he will pick up again though, he is a very clever footballer.

Great to hear LVG has now become the manager for MU.

Looking back we have to thank David Moyes for fecking up so terribly.... this actually opened the door for LVG.

Can anyone summarize his time at AZ? How big of an achievement was it winning the league with them?

I thought he looked like a big dick with the hairstyle and the notepad 4 years ago. Little did I know that he's actually a crazy dick.
