Rafael Van Der Vaart: I'm Leaving Real Madrid This Summer

The Dutch playmaker has accepted that he's no longer needed at Madrid...

The future of Rafael van der Vaart at Real Madrid has been in doubt ever since the arrival of Florentino Perez as the club's president. After months of speculation, the Dutch international has now made it clear that he will not stay at the Spanish powerhouse.

"The head coach has told me that I will mainly warm the bench in the upcoming season. So for me there's no point in staying at the club," Van der Vaart said to De Telegraaf.

"Real want to recoup the money they paid for me about a year ago. However, I totally understand that interested clubs are not in a hurry to make an inquiry about me. They hope that Madrid will lower their asking price.

"Rejoining Hamburger SV is certainly an option for me, but Germany isn't my only possible new destination. The most important thing for me is getting regular first team football. I don't want to lose my place in the Holland squad for South Africa."

The former Ajax star is being linked with a whole number of big clubs such as Liverpool, Inter, Hamburger SV and Milan at the moment.

We should buy him

ROoney-- Berbatov-- Van de Vaart

Van Der Vaart on the right wing of a front three?

He's a midfielder, just not a particularly good one unless he's given loads of freedom and very little defensive responsibility.

Wouldn't be comfortable with him at Liverpool. Quality player on his day.

And you missed the part about us having a level front 3. :wenger:

He is more devastating on the hole.. towards the left behind the striker.. berbatov
Vaad de vart rooney

Would be a good pick up for Milan, and the extra time on the ball in the Serie A would suit him well...

Another football who wants to be guaranteed first team football instead of working hard to earn it.
Pussy

:nono: Although I understand your point (tevez) he just wants to be able to play in next years World Cup, and in fact, it would be pretty stupid and stubborn for him to stay and try and fight for a place if his coach has repeatedly stated he wont get any playing time...

BTW, whereever he may go, he's still brilliant when playing just behind a target man like Ruud.

That's the thing, isn't it? Tevez was assured he'd get playing time and yet still decided to leave because he wasn't an automatic first choice starter the entire time.

Van der Vaart has essentially been told that if he sticks around he's going to warm the bench. There's a difference there - one could fight for his place and claim it, the other's been told he won't even get the chance to fight.

He's a great player and would be a good signing for us, it's just unlikely we'll be giving Real any pennies back.

I'm not sure that's true though.

Van Der Vaart might've been told 'you're not a regular starter' and interpreted it in his own way, while Tevez has been told the same thing, and it's just because there are better players ahead of them both.

I think the situations are likely to be fairly similar.

The difference is van der Vaart's character. His more ambitious than Tevez and if he saw a realistic chance to become a regular starter, he would stay. Van der Vaart has his flaws, he even posed with a Valencia shirt when he was still with Hamburg to force a move. But he's ambitious and in contrast to Tevez he hasn't moaned much about Real. He just sees no chances anymore and wants to leave. Fair enough.

Why are some players so obsessed with playing for the national team?

1. Patriotism
2. Number of national team caps are (wrongly) seen by some as a measure of quality.

It's the national team that makes you an all-time great. Pele, Zidane, Ronaldo, Maradona - without their national teams, their names wouldn't be as important as they are.

This is why I found it very funny that our Ronaldo said that he had to go to Real to follow the footsteps of the likes of Zidane and Ronaldo and go down in history as an all-time great. Both footballers were brilliant for their clubs, but it's the World-Cup that has made them immortal. Nothing to do with Real Madrid.

Good answer, also the main reason Zlatan went to Barca is because he thinks he can win the Ballon d'Or by playing for them.

Not sure if he's that good or not. Half the wanking occurred because he had a silly buyout clause at his previous club and he was clearly a good player (just doubtful of whether he was top-La Liga quality).

City may be a good destination, but surely Hughes will want to use Ireland instead? Slightly more flexible, won't have to adapt to the Premiership and slightly younger?

He's a cracking player with the ball at his feet, a very intelligent playmaker. However, he is a luxury player, great going forward but shocking when the opposition have the ball.

Agree. He's another player Real took then fecked around with. Now, a year on, he's surplus to requirements. The lack of planning at that club is a joke. Real are a joke.

TBF Pellegrini is not known to mince words. IF RVDV says the fella told him he wasn't in his plans. I believe it.
