Van De Beek | Everton Loan Watch

The lack of movement from the Everton players ahead of him when he got the ball each time was ridiculous. No wonder Everton lost. Just statues out there in front of him.
Lets be honest though, Donny's hardly got the variety in his passing to actually execute incisive, forward passes.

Lets be honest though, you've never seen him play anywhere else than United. His preference for short passes doesn't mean he can't make those passes. If you've seen the clip of his first Everton minutes or any compilation at Ajax. You can see he can make long or through passes rather well. But he still prefers combination play.

As Terranova says above that's really unfair. He may not be a world class long distance passer from deep, but he's very good at quick forward passes to feet over 1 to 3 metres and quick one-two's to advance up the pitch. He loves pass and move.

Sideways is only bad if there's an obvious forward passing opportunity. IMO whenever I've seen Donny play, IF he can go forwards he will. I think that video highlights it also.
I agree that more recently that's been the case. For most of his first season though it was a real issue, he would always play the safest easiest pass even when there were decent opportunities to play forwards. I think a lot of people who criticise him are stuck in how he was performing for that period and don't acknowledge that he has improved in that aspect (and his desire to win the ball back defensively) since then. His gametime has been so limited though that it's been hard for him to really show it, so hopefully this Everton loan will be his chance.

Well done for getting out of the United shit show. Let's see what you've got, lad.

Everton appear to have subbed Donny on before the match starts. Are they allowed to do that?

He gets into some good positions and services the forwards .

I can't believe ole dint see this

Crossed the ball for the goal, should have been his assist really.

Thank God we let him go and kept Matic, McTominay and Fred....

Erm... wtf, why didn't we play this guy ever? It's only been 15 minutes so I shan't get dramatic but he is playing really well so far.

This is ridiculous, Lampard knows he's not allowed to start games right?

Hopefully we recall him after this and put an end to this facade

He makes himself available for passes. Can't be having that in a midfielder! No wonder we let him go.

Has looked very good so far, but it seems to be easy to do so for a centre mid against Leeds. McTominay looks like Lothar Matthäus against these.

This Anthony Gordon kid is a player.

Donny has been good, drifted out of the game a little in the last 15.

Playing well and doing exactly what we need in midfield at the moment. Someone to bring some maturity and balance.

He's been calm on the ball but hasn't really controlled the game against an awful midfield. Leeds have been getting players on the ball in front of the Everton box far too much.

Good half, industrious, tidy on the ball, quick into the tackle, and a good bit of movement for the first goal. Sometimes allows space behind him defensively but very positive half in the main.

Good opportunity in this loan to establish himself as a PL player.

i like how he keeps it simple and then when possible go for forward pass.

good first half but what caught my eye is the overall performance of Everton, really good half from them

Can someone less lazy bring out some gems of the geniuses that were saying he must be shite in training to not get picked?

Bonus points for that quote from the papers which said he was not physical enough for the PL  .

I hope he keeps it going and gets to the world cup.

Yep sounds about right. Sign a CM, never use him, then loan him out so another club can benefit from him, whilst bemoaning how crap our remaining options in CM are.

We are a bunch of idiots so no wonder we struggle. I hoped at least RR was more progressive
