Van De Beek | Everton Loan Watch

It's only Leeds, Mctominay looked like a world beater against them, calm down guys.

I see Everton have loaned his chant as well.

Great to hear he played well, but i'm not surprised.

He was always harshly judged here, a fresh start was exactly what he needed.

Reuters:

LIVERPOOL, England, Feb 12 (Reuters) - Everton manager Frank Lampard heaped praise on Donny van de Beek after the on-loan Manchester United midfielder's impressive performance fired them to a dominant 3-0 win over Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 24-year-old, who started alongside Allan in central midfield, was a constant presence as he controlled the game and played a part in Everton's opener that was scored by Seamus Coleman in a rampant first-half performance.

"I thought Donny van de Beek was great. To play like that at home - his calmness, work rate and intelligence was great," Lampard told reporters after his first league win as Everton boss.

"I think he can do different roles and that's why I moved so quickly to get him. He played in a double number six today and has the talent to link and get us through the lines. He's a goal threat too, so that was one of the big pulls of bringing him in."

So:

1. DvB can play #6 apparently
2. DvB is a great midfielder, in multiple roles, when given a chance apparently, even against good teams
3. Would we beat Leeds 3:0 if we played them today? Nope, we almost lost to weaker teams and did lose to weaker team in the past three games

Maybe we should have hired Lampard as the caretaker, instead of Moscow Locomotiv consultant.

I fecking hate the shambles of the team that we have become. I really do.

Very happy for Donny, though. Always really liked him and love to see him show what he can do, even if we failed to benefit from him

We beat Leeds 6-2 in 2020, and 5-1 in 2021, Mctominay scored twice in the 6-2 game, but apparently VDB having a decent game against them means he's so much better than what we've got

Will go down as one of the most bizarre transfers ever made in world football. Absolutely no idea why we treated him the way we treated him. Again, maybe he isn’t a world beater, but how can you continue to play McTominay and Fred when they were serving up crap after crap week in week out and DVB be sat on the bench week after week, without even giving him at least a proper run of games? I don’t care if Ole didn’t want him, if that’s the case he was petulant and doing a disservice to the team.

The people running theirs mouths in this thread like they were DVB experts as well that claimed he could only play as a 10 and could only be backup to Bruno, have no clue what they are talking about. Time to admit we just treated him like shit for absolutely no reason

Happy for him, hopefully he can gone strength to strength on this performance.
It made me laugh though we loan out someone with on ball ability and we keep McTominay, a player whose Soton players comfortably backed off when he's on the ball because they know he can't do anything with it

Draws are now losses? :wenger:

Was a good performance today, I was watching my adopted son Daniel playing for Leeds and so was happy to see a full 90 from the Donny as well. I do think he looked good and particularly in the first 30 minutes or so, clearly some United DNA there then, faded a little in the second half but it's not as though he is fully match fit. On this evidence he can certainly do a job for us if the next Manager wants to keep him but as others have mentioned we have to caveat that by saying many players have looked immense playing against Leeds the last couple of seasons and this was an especially woeful performance from Bielsa's boys. If he retains a spot in the starting eleven and can reproduce these kinds of performances against better sides then it will certainly be humble pie time for those who wrote him off but this game was not a great yardstick for measuring where he is at as the entire Everton line up looked like galacticos today.

Agree completely. Donny has been treated shockingly. Barely got a game in his first season, then didn't go on loan because Ole promised him game time and he still didn't get it.

I have literally no idea how a former Balon D'or nominee who was also sought after by Real Madrid couldn't get a 5-7 game run in a midfield where Fred and McTominay were constantly playing.

Was average today, not sure he is ever going to be the answer at United.

McT has scored a fair few more goals in a United shirt than Donny,
Admittedly he's played a lot more minutes, but one thing you can't levy at McT is that he 'wont do anything with the ball'.

 moving the goalposts a little eh

That first half performance was near flawless.
Not really,

When both sides are poor, and Leeds are really poor, bearing in mind their recent form,

He was man of the match.

Eh, i get the feeling everyone wants him to do great so they can bash Utd over something else. Oppo pundits love to highlight every little thing to criticise us even when it’s not actually true.

We should be bashed over our mismanagement of donny.

One can understand rangnick not fancying him but why did ole not give him an opportunity when he only signed him. It made no sense.

I watched the game and he was really great. Apparently we have much better players running about at Carrington.

Yep sounds about right. Sign a CM, never use him, then loan him out so another club can benefit from him, whilst bemoaning how crap our remaining options in CM are.
Mcfred is where its at. If either of them are not upto the task then we've got matic waiting on the bench alongwith mata

I'd love a mediocre game where we beat a team comfortably by 3 goals

Why? He never fulfilled his promise in any opportunity he had here.

Let's see how he does between now and the end of the season and take it from there, but so far I don't see a United player there unfortunately

Getting subbed in for 5 mins is not an opportunity.

Must have been pre-covid, i certainly dont remember him playing the full 90 mins in the recent past.
Few months ago mate, against Young boys if I remember correctly,

VDB is a clever player who is good at quick 1-2 and moving into space. That's where he can hurt teams in the final third. I think he can play along side Bruno. We need a DM in order to start playing better. Fred and McTominay is not the answer. If we had a top class DM then VDB, Pogba and Bruno can rotate in a 2 person midfield.

Is he though?

I hear this alot, yet here he is on loan to a relegation threatened club.
Yes, more or less every game he's played in the midfield two since joining utd he's looked more capable and comfortable in possession than Fred and McTominay. Solskjaer and Rangnick are fools for not giving him one proper opportunity in that position given the circumstances.

Im sure the mystery regarding Donnys abuse will one day come to light

Hope he plays a few good games for Everton now

Pleased for him. Seems a decent lad and has had some bizarre treatment here. It’s pretty natural to root for him to succeed

Till Pogba leaves.

Can you read? I asked if we'd beat them TODAY. The question is this squad, in its current mental state and as trained by RR, the one that couldnt beat two teams worse than Leeds and lost to Boro. Settle down

Draws are now losses? :wenger:
Two draws where we could have lost if not De Gea and a loss to Boro. That is our latest record, unless you live in parallel reality

Have you considered that the foolish opinion might not be held by the managers that have overseen him, but that perhaps the laymen on here might have that quality contained within their posts?
