you think Gingrich will get the GOP nomination Grin?

tell ya...it will be a hoot.

what Pelosi said has got me wondering what kind of shit this guy did.

I know. Maybe he bought stocks in phamaceutical companies while prepping a vote for a national health care plan. Oh wait.......

;)

Doubt she's got anything she can release. She's just huffing and puffing to get some headlines.

No I don't...the kingmakers have selected Romney and that's who it will be (barring a massive feck-up). The last election showed what happens when you select partisan wingnuts (The witch, Sharron Angle). Romney actually has a shot at POTUS with independents/moderates (the people who really decide elections)...he just needs to persuade the base...I think they will come around after Newt has a bit more exposure that shows them what a despicable cnut he really is.

I'm expecting Ron Paul to do well in Iowa though. His message resonates with a lot of reasonable people.

Ronmey will not be POTUS. A lot of America is spasticated, but not quite enough to elect a homophobic Mormon in 2011.

At least I really, really, really hope not.

I said he'll be the nominee..not POTUS. If the economy stays ropey or gets worse then he's in with a chance...I'd currently put money on Barry though.

was not Boner up to something too?

of course she cannot release stuff.

Gingrich will make it all entertaining though....

People like the simplistic liberty message. They don't dig deep enough to see the loony stuff about Ronny. We'll be getting the same shit from Rand in the coming years too.

I hate hearing from relatively liberal types that Ron Paul is the answer to anything because he opposed the Iraq war and wants to abolish the federal reserve, and they know feck-all about him repeatedly introducing (blatantly unconstitutional and patently ridiculous) bills to restrict the courts' ability to adjudicate laws surrounding the Establishment clause, pull out of the UN, deny federal funding to any organization "which presents male or female homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle", or the fact that he was the sole vote AGAINST divesting federal funding in Sudan over Darfur.

To be fair he does want to repeal the Patriot Act which is probably the most unconstitutional piece of legislation in recent American history, one which your supposedly liberal president supports.

The Americans have had some pretty contradictory pieces of legislation down the years relative to the Bill of Rights.

If only he were one.

Yep, the tan man did the same thing. And Gingrich comes off so arogant that if he gets the nimination most Americans will find him unbearable. Plus the media (talk radio and opinion shows) will make quite a bit of noise about his personal life. No way to come out of that looking good.

Maybe true but nothing that comes close to the Patriot Act. How that didn't get struck down is amazing to me.

I recall seeing pictures of Bush whilst still President at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, six months or so after the Republican nomination was pretty much decided, sitting alongside Mitt Romney.

I found that pretty interesting at the time and I wonder what he is up to behind the scenes, especially so as he and Perry despite working together in Texas don't get along.

tbh I have not followed his personal life BS much...and imo that really is nothing to do with anyone.

But I am concerned about him doing something and lying about it as he has done quite a bit.

He is smart though...but you get the feeling he cannot be controlled like perhaps a Romney who will work with the traditional big shots in the party...which is why they dont like Nwet.

On the contrary, the Alien and Sedition Acts, the Internal Security Act, the Espionage Act, the Sedition Act, the Smith Act - this is before you talk about the executive orders that led to mass internment in both world wars, and the House Committee on Un-American Activities - a contradiction in terms you would think.

Carl Rove, aka Dr. Doom, said he'd put his PR machine to work calling anyone who didn't vote for the Patriot Act, shock and surprise, un-patriotic. In the wake of 9/11 it was a pretty potent threat.

They weren't even given the entire legislation before they were asked to vote on it, just a summary.

That bill is something any fascist leader would have been proud of.

I suppose the Republican party bosses would love someone like Perry - red meat for the masses and manipulable by the big donors.

I'm sure he's in for another surge...once Romney or someone else rolls out the big guns against Newt - his personal life, his fines, his track record on some issues etc. I think Perry has a fair bit left in his campaign coffer and they'll do a biggish TV campaign closer to the polls once people hae fogotten and forgiven those gaffes.

Its got to be Romney or Perry.

I'd just like to re-iterate again how flabber-staggered I am by that campaign ad. I expect that kind of thing from marginal nutjobs running for mid term senate seats in southern states and what not, but at this stage of a presidential nominee campaign? feck a duck that's bonkers!

Good shout there. I like a bit of historical context in a discussion.

War on Christmas...some people have no shame. That's got to be the most ridiculous concept I ever heard. Whose stopping anyone from celebrating Christmas?

Whose stopping kids from praying in schools?

Answer, no-fecking-body.

Imagine if a mayor of some town treated Ramadan like most treat Christmas, he'd be lynched. But Christmas isn't safe.

There's a war on reason, that for damn sure. Embarrassing tripe.

yeah that was a good speech. Not sure who was listening though. Political discourse doesn't make the press unless it's screechy or out on some fringe. Sad days.

Love that the speech was made in Ossawatomie. Coincidentally just happened to finish the new book on John Brown tonight.

 I'm thinking of Roger Ailes' orchestra pit theory.

Obama is a scarily good orator. I just don't see anyone in the Republican primaries who can possibly hope to match him in, say, a presidential debate. They all have faults. The likes of Perry and Bachmann obviously have more than most, but Romney, for example, is way too stiff to take on Obama.

Gingrich, while rather more well spoken, is simply too much of an unsuffrable twat, it veritably shines through. Paul is quite well spoken, and has an honest, serious manner about him. Unfortunately for him, he's also quite insane, which is hard to hide in a Presidential debate.

I can't wait.

Historically, the candidate who comes across as more human and less rigid, tends to win not just the debate, but also the election. The Bush/Gore and Bush/Kerry debates are good examples, as were Clinton/Bush, Clinton/Dole, and more recently Obama/McCain. That does not bode well for any of the Republican candidates in 2012. Obama comes across as quite reasonable and personable in his debates, whether he's a longshot as he was when he went up against Hillary in the 08 primaries, or when he's ahead in the polls as he was when he debated McCain. Obama/Gingrich would probably result in another massive ~200 electoral vote win for the Dems, whereas Obama/Romney would be far closer given that Romney is quite a good debater when contrasted to the other Republican options.

US politics are such fun... Cain and Perry have been hilarious to follow.

How on earth is gays in the military proving to be the big indicator of something being wrong with the works, especially with a serial-collapsing economic system that's proven to be unviable in its current form and governance, a health system that doesn't get anywhere near as much bang for its buck as any other OECD country, not to mention the crippling polarisation inside the framework of federal government.

But sure, go stick your nose in people's privates rather than focusing on what concerns the entire nation... After all, you're just running for President.
