Der Spiegel is Germany's answer to The Guardian, but agenda or no agenda they haven't exactly said much wrong about the GOP candidates.
Because, honestly, "their guy" is usually not as stupid. Obama certainly isn't. If Romney made such a mistake, I wouldn't give it any thought. But I did with Bush Jr, and Perry is an even bigger idiot than him.

The system we have as flawed as it is almost ensures a Cain or Perry will get shown out in the end. But that said Obama didn't turn out anywhere near what people thought. Especially on foreign policy.

It really just comes from being a crotchety old bastard and seeing the demos do all the same things most on here complain about the repubs doing in the past. It's really kind of funny and certainly hypocritical.
I was a repub for a number of years but the party that attracted me doesn't exist anymore. I'm probably more closely aligned to Libertarians now but I've really moved away from trying to identify with a political party. I'm a fiscal conservative and a social liberal.
You want an example, there is a very recent one. When the Tea Party had signs of Obama at there rally there were all sorts of demos crying foul. Where were they when signs of Bush, of a similar nature, were being seen?
When candidate Obama was running, the over riding theme was we need to move on from failed policies and leadership. Sound familiar? It should as it's exactly what every repub is saying now.
Politicians don't run on what they believe anymore, they run on what they think will get them elected. It would be nice if a politician could say, 'President X has done something well but I would also want to add this....'. Hell given Obamas handling of Pakistan he should have come out and said he liked Bushs Afghanistan policy so much he would carry out something like it in Pakistan. Or he could have said, 'I think just like Bush, Gitmo is a brilliant place to hold detainees so I'll just keep them there.'
Politics in this country have been on a down turn. I think things got real nasty during the Clinton era. I think there were a lot of repubs that just despised him. It's been on a downward spiral since. At least pre Kennedy the office still had respect and people listened to each other to some degree. Now there's no dialogue.
The same could be said of the UK where it appears that politicians have ditched ideas of public service and principles in favour of naked careerism and the pork barrel (see Clegg for the most recent egregious example). But maybe we were just more naive back then.
Fair enough, Cali. Politics in the US, seen from Norway, are really fecked up. We've got some political attacks and the like (usually involving one party in particular, for obvious reasons), but nothing like what is going on in the US. I wonder how much being a two-party system has to do with it, if any.

Ross Perot did something like this in 92 when he was ahead in the polls. He claimed that Bush was trying to smear his family. He never regained his momentum after coming back. McCain briefly suspended his campaign in 08.
