Obama is a great speaker when giving a speech in front of a supportive crowd, but in debating, answering questions or in a press conference he is nothing special.

He was pedestrian in the debates with McCain in 2008.

He's an excellent communicator in just about every setting. Certainly no Republican spare Romney will be able to match him in a debate. And yes, he was far better than pedestrian against McCain.

Have you watched any of his press conferences? I would certainly not call him an excellent communicator in that setting, or in debates.

Well you have to set the bar for what construes a good communicator. When you compare him to other politicians in the U.S., he is well above average in his ability to get his message out in interviews, press conferences, debates, and so on. When he speaks in those settings, he tends to redefine himself and his agenda and soothe public anxieties. Sometimes that's not easy given the economic conditions, but he seems to have a positive affect when he speaks.

I wouldn't be so sure, be careful what you wish for when an incumbent president has an approval rating of 40% in a country with 9% unemployed.

This is what I've been saying all along. However, if Gingrich wins the nomination Obama will win easily. He is just far too unlikeable, you think his $1million dollar tiffany's account and how he left his wife while she was ill with cancer will play well with independents? Nevermind his crazy views on things like child labour laws and radical partisan reputation.

I'd like to see if Bill Clinton would come out on the campaign trail in such a circumstance.

I think he means Bill would love to stick it to the Newt after what the fat feck said about him all through the 90's.

Personally I don't see him wanting to help Obama out very much.

This, the last president with an unusually high approval rating on leaving office and still relatively recent. If Obama is threatened by a lunatic republican I'd be surprised if Clinton didn't come out.

I'm sure Bill Clinton would love nothing better than to bitchslap Newt after the utter abortion of a job he did as Speaker of the House, but obviously not on issues with his 3 marriages.

He can attack him on his record as speaker, his political views and his post political career as a lobbyist (I don't think saying he couldnt have been a lobbyist because he was making too much money doing speeches will wash). He is also a hypocrite because he supported a federal healthcare mandate during the Clinton healthcare reform attempt.

Don't worry....we've got a few weeks for Romney and co. to soften up the Newt before Obama has to spend a single penny. I'm sure it's going to get intense as Iowa nears. Obama can concentrate on improving his own numbers and fecking with tea party repubs.

I actually think that Ron Paul is the only GOP candidate capable of beating Obama. He'll garner most the independent vote and even take some disgruntled democrat votes away from Obama. The rest of them, Romney included, are just plain unelectable and don't stand a chance in hell.

If we were in an alternate universe where Ron Paul were the nominee, Obama would probably win 48 or 49 out of 50 states. Independents would melt away from the GOP and defect to Obama or else stay at home. The right wing loons would also largely stay at home out of apathy for Paul's positions. It would be quite a one sided election.

Ron Paul is probably more popular amongst independents that the likes of Cain, Gingrich or even Romney. And I'm sure the crazies won't stay home either, they'd vote for Paul if thats what it takes to dethrone that Muslim, communist, tax-raising anti-Christ.

When the base isn't energized they stay home. So if Paul were to get the nomination, they would not turn out in the numbers necessary to make a difference and most independents weary of Paul's nutty policies would immediately shift to Obama, resulting in a distinctly lopsided result similar to the Reagan - Mondale debacle in 84.

I think you have been watching The West Wing too much.

never watched it.

my response was an insult to the GOP field.

obviously went over your head.

Obama took on the entire GOP in a question and answer session on the defecit and they came out looking like fools.

Romney is struggling to articulate his immigration plan.

It really would be funny to see this corporate raider take on the President.

You said that Obama should win because he is more intelligent, intelligence has never quite came into it.

Credit to Dennis Miller for the following line:

The trouble with the Cain train is that it keeps going in and out of tunnels.

Did you see Perry getting the election date and legal voting age wrong? He's actually getting stupider as the campaign goes on.

Did you know that Newt changed his middle name to Leroy to court the minority vote?

Fox don't seem to like Romney much...that mallet-headed cnut did a number on him in an interview yesterday. I'm not really sure who they are backing over at Fox.

strange how Fox went after Romney.

but I loved it

Romney is behind Newt in every poll except NH where he is only 10 points ahead.

The funny thing is Newt has so much baggage, he will need a bulldozer to carry them.

I wonder how the tea party will react to Newt's love for NAFTA and belief in climate change. He's cruised along unnoticed till now but the shit will start flying soon enough.

I never understand why these things are considered that funny (ok, maybe a little). The guy misspoke. So what? Obama did it a few times running for his first term. Bush was classic for it and the king of kings has got to be Biden. So does that make Obama stupid because he said he's been to 57 states? No.

 Newt saying he thinks the 99% movement is 'divisive and unAmerican", because he is the face of bipartisanship and not tarring your enemies with labels at all.
