I've done quite a lot of work with UK central and local government politicians. It's soon obvious that most of the locals are people who are too thick to cut it at national level. These guys represent a lower level of intellect.

he is convincing because he actually believes what he says.

you can see Romney, Newt and Cain are being just 'politicians' in the worst sense of the word.

spot on. That was smart of Paul to use Wolfowitz to make his point about US actions inviting terrorism.

Of all the things that China does that are reprehensible, Perry picks up on abortion.

"China is destined for the ash heap of history because it is not a country of virtue."

Yeah, I don't think I like that one.

Huntsman, Paul & Gingrich will get numbers from this. Cain and Perry have faded badly, Bachmann to stay where she is while Santorum will be insignificant as usual

Social conservative red-meat. He should have added that they don't like Nascar or Barbecue.

If he wants to turn off the christian right to China, simply tell that what the Chinese think of practicing christianity.

I recall in 2008, Romney was saying to a crowd I think in Iowa that Europe had lost its way because we're more secular.

He actually said the only two things worth saying in that shitfest: war on drugs don't work/war on terrorism pisses off the people whose countries get collateral damage. And he doesn't dye his hair.

Paul I really don't think so, his views on Israel and drugs will see him make a net loss tonight in primary voters.

Gingrinch I think will be the big winner of tonight.

Ron Paul is basically the American version of Nigel Farage, a well known politician who has strong and sincere views on national sovereignty and foreign policy who many people nod along with but don't vote for when it really matters.

What's really funny is that there were very few Obama attacks because he's actually been pretty successful with his foreign policy.

there are quite a few young voters that like his anti war and his hands off on drugs stand.

they should have heard his plans for their education though...

I am looking at who has got endorsements from who.

Stop the presses, Ron Paul is supported by Barry Manilow.

Michele Bachmann has the support of Wayne Newton.

I actually think that's unfair to Paul, Nigel Flange is the complete cnut.

Any gems in this debate? Worth watching it? I had work, so didn't catch it live.

Ron Paul was sensible, the rest were their usual crackpot selves.

Bachman was probably the most entertaining in terms of absolute shite streaming from that mouth of hers....just look out for her highlights.

This was a strange debate. It seems like none of the candidates has any momentum. Romney seemed a bit dull, Cain and Perry were their usual idiotic selves, and the rest of the candidates were boring. Huntsmann made some decent points, but his brand is just too obscure to have a chance.

Gingrich would win Iowa tomorrow...I wonder how the attacks for the next 6 weeks will play out for him though. Romney isn't bothering with Iowa really so I wonder if he'll spend money attacking the Newt.

It hasn't gotten a lot of attention due to the economy, and the ongoing Afghanistan situation, but this Administration's foreign policy has been among the most effective in my lifetime. GOP desires to make Iran and China the new bogeymen are hilarious given Iran is almost totally isolated from the Arab world, (only Assad and Hezbollah are closely aligned with them,) and the Obama Administration is orchestrating a regional SEASIA/Australia trade group without Chinese participation, coinciding the timing with a period of transfer of power in China. Couple that with the increased goodwill from our foreign policy not being run by a bunch of goddamned cowboys, and it's really hard not to like where America is going in the world, presuming you have a non-crazy perspective on things.

And today we have Medvedev himself going on television in Russia saying their military may target American missile shield installations in Europe with their SRBMs and pull out of the START treaty.

You cannot overlook them doing something stupid, their paranoia is ridiculous.

good summation Excal.

Finally we are getting serious with regards to Foreign Policy. A lot of credit needs to go to Hillary Clinton too. Probably will be too old to run in 2016 though...

Reagan was 69 at inauguration. Clinton will be 68. McCain would've been 72 I think if he was elected. So it could happen. I don't think it would be too strange. Women live longer than men anyways.

Also, as sexist as it might sound, I could see the Republicans getting shit if they tried to attack a female candidate on the basis of age.
