So apparently on the current count, more people voted for Democrat candidates in the House than Republican ones. That is some solid gerrymandering by the Repubs there.

Something I just noticed in the Fox exit poll - 60% of respondents wanted income tax raises, and 47% (ha) agreed with the Obama plan to let the Bush cuts expire for the 250k+ bracket (the other 13% wanted it raised for everybody). Now that's a mandate.

Although reading further on, now 63% are disagreeing with "Should taxes be raised to help cut the budget deficit?" Somewhat confusing.

Obama does have a big mandate and he will go into the the fiscal cliff and debt ceiling issues very strong.

Reid has already called on the GOP to just raise the ceiling without a fuss.

If it becomes the 51st state, Puerto Rico would be allotted 7 electoral votes. You will have to reach 273 to win the presidency..so all in all it gives the Democrats - who will probably usually win it- a 4 EV gain.

Edit: am wrong. 7 EV advantage ,since both parties will have to reach 273

Will it have to be passed through Congress? If so, GOP will never let it pass.

A letter to all my friends; The end of the United States as we know it has officially begun, it is obvious that those of us with integrity, intelligence and the willingness to get out of bed and be productive citizens on a daily basis are the minority in this country. Last evenings election results are unfortunately proof of the above statement; when a country re-elects anyone hell bent on re-distributing your wealth to those that refuse to take accountability for who they are then the resultant can be nothing short of anarchy in the final days. When obvious lies, a lack of measurable metrics and an "I" mentality doesn't strike a chord in each of our souls to make the real change this country needs, then we deserve what is about to happen to this once great nation. Even after 4 years your elected president hasn't figured out how to balance the national check book, his answer; we'll ask everyone to "tighten their belts a little more", blame the wealthy and George Bush and borrow money from China. I leave you with the question each of us should have asked prior to casting our ballots.....how does a man who never had a real job in his lifetime, never served in the military or has never produced anything of tangible value become a millionaire in 4 years? Get your wallets out because here come the taxes that no one but your newly elected president will be able to afford (because he doesn't play under the same system as the rest of us....he's special). And by the way what effect do you think those tax increases will have on your employer's business. See you all in the unemployment line, Signed the Statue of Liberty

They've reportedly been positive about it. I'm sure in one of the town hall primary debates this came up, and the candidates seemed that way as well. I think Puerto Rico might have a Republican government itself at the moment, I'd check but I'm lazy.

From the 2012 GOP platform:

We support the right of the United States citizens of Puerto Rico to be admitted to the Union as a fully sovereign state if they freely so determine.

So, the GOP has to either back their word and tick another 7 EVs in the Dem column, or piss off Hispanic voters by breaking their promise to PR.

They SHOULD lead the charge, try to make PR statehood THEIR issue, pass it out of the House as HR 1, but I predict that, when given the chance to shoot themselves in the foot, they will do so.

Mitt Romney's campaign got its first hint something was wrong on the afternoon of Election Day, when state campaign workers on the ground began reporting huge turnout in areas favorable to President Obama: northeastern Ohio, northern Virginia, central Florida and Miami-Dade.

Then came the early exit polls that also were favorable to the president.

But it wasn't until the polls closed that concern turned into alarm. They expected North Carolina to be called early. It wasn't. They expected Pennsylvania to be up in the air all night; it went early for the President.

After Ohio went for Mr. Obama, it was over, but senior advisers say no one could process it.

"We went into the evening confident we had a good path to victory," said one senior adviser. "I don't think there was one person who saw this coming."

Wow. I knew they misread it with their polling a bit, I didn't realise they got it THAT badly wrong.

- Oh. Well that's cool.

 They really thought they'd win in a landslide

The romney campaign knew they were losing Ohio weeks before, thus the move to other states. But also, some of the northern states are actually quite competitive.

I don't think Romney could have done much more, it was simply too far away for Romney to bridge the gap.

If they didn't think African Americans were going to turn out in high numbers, they most certainly had not written off Ohio at all. The most competitive northern state was Pennsylvania, which they lost by a fairly comfortable 5 points. Not close.

Yeah the late push for PA wasn't due to being behind in OH, it was because FL went back to 50-50 or slight lean Obama. Without FL they were fecked even if they won OH - PA was the Hail Mary option.

Ha! I found the perfect response to that rightwing nutter map.

Drum rolllll....

think if their eyes were opened they would despise the republican party for lying to them.
even a two year degree in a community college can be so valuable. The president talking about investing in education is so very important for this country.

things are changing.

got to hope the 'good news' reaches everyone.

As per that article though, PA actually wasn't a desperate gamble to them, they actually thought they were ahead in swing states and were "expanding the map"!

Could just be b/s from the "unnamed source" though, they certainly weren't behaving like a campaign sure they were going to win. I really hope they were though.

Is Bill O'Reilly on now? I need me some more tears.

from all the noise on the right it sounds like they are doubling down on the usual nonsense...that somehow the elections were stolen.

This is politically helpful to the Democrats...but very bad for the country.

President is speaking tomorrow on the fiscal cliff and the economy.
