Actually there were some regulations that directly impacted the housing markets, and the consequent collapse.

So they were encouraged to break the law with their ninija loans and false documentation not to say the rest of the crap the banks pulled as mentioned by others.

Kinell.

"Pro life" almost always also means pro death penalty, in my experience. In the end they are both certainly connected to more or less extreme religious views.

With Herman Cain it's more connected to extreme stupidity.

Barry promising to bring the troops home for Christmas - another foreign policy coup, after the demise of Gaddafi.

If only he could get the economy to even out, and show something resembling an upward trend, he'd win in a landslide again. But it seems, the economy will get even worse before it gets any better.

Barry winning isn't good enough. We need a majority in the houses to get anything useful passed. But, the repubs will have a very hard time allowing feck-all to get done for four years if he does get re-elected.

From Dan Savage to the Hermanasshole after he stated that being gay is a choice:

Dear Herman,

If being gay is a choice, show us the proof. Choose it. Choose to be gay yourself. Show America how that's done, Herman, show us how a man can choose to be gay. Suck my dick, Herman. Name the time and the place and I'll bring my dick and a camera crew and you can suck me off and win the argument.

Very sincerely yours,

Dan Savage

MacCALLUM: The question is do you believe abortion should be legal in this country for families who want to make that decision?
CAIN: No, no, no, I do not believe abortion should be legal in this country if that’s the question.

MacCALLUM: Then you’re saying that if those circumstances come up and the family does make that decision, that they decide that that is the best thing for this young person, or she decides that on her own if that’s what they decided that it would be an illegal abortion that they would need to seek.

CAIN: It would be an illegal abortion. Look, abortion should not be legal, that is clear, but if that family made a decision to break the law, that is that family’s decision, that’s all I’m trying to stay.

Clarification from everyone's favorite imbecile.

You do realize this already happened? It was the case for 2 years.....

Yes and we got major health and financial reform. There could have been more but the negotiations weren't strong enough. The country has gone to shit since all those tea party twats and assorted republicunts got voted in two years later.

He scares the crap out of me. No regulations is a frightening thought. Thankfully, even if he gets in (which he can't) he'd be stopped.

For me, Libertarianism is about letting the states make every decision that doesn't absolutely need to be done on a federal level.

Interstate commerce, international diplomacy, testing meat for botulism, these are good things for a federal government to do.

People are better able to influence their state politics than Federal, so the will of the people should get closer to the law.

Mostly I feel that if Paul ends our wars then it's worth almost anything else he could do that would be bad.

And of course its fascinating the tea party doesn't get behind him. Shows they don't even understand their own supposed beliefs.

Clarification from everyone's favorite imbecile.

When you can ramble like that and not get called out, what hope do we have?

Just put a smiling news anchor on after some inane comment like 'If someone breaks a law then the illegal act is illegal' and everyone thinks that it's a perfectly reasonable and non-idiotic thing to say, and someone who speaks like that would make a good president.

People like the Koch brothers who play behind the political scenes must laugh at the stupidity of people every night.

"that doesn't absolutely need to be done on a federal level"?

Ron Paul wants to completely remove the Department of Energy.

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is a Cabinet-level department of the United States government concerned with the United States' policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material. Its responsibilities include the nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the United States Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and domestic energy production.

And that's just one. He wants to remove a bunch of other departments. If it was up to him, there wouldn't be any Clean Air Act, or Clean Water Act. He wants the free market to handle everything. If that means letting people fall through the cracks, or having to suffer through some 19th century level pollution, well, that's libertarianism.

He'd be a bigger disaster for the US than Herman Cain or Michele Bachmann.

 I've seen more professional videos released by kidnappers...

That was 20 cents well-spent by the Cain team. :D

That has actually killed me. When he has a pull on his cig  I am AMERICAAAAAA

"Herbert...I mean, Herman Cain will put the UNITED back into *coughs-up lung, moustache falls off*...AMERICA - states! I MEANT STATES!!!!"

I'm wondering if it's an effort to reach out to big tobacco for some funding.

What's with the creepy Cain grin at the end too?

Part Two of the Cain Campaign's video presentation:

Next time they should replace the cig with a flask of whisky.

It's quite appropriate that the Cain campaign is fronted by Inspector Clouseau.

I guess I like Ron Paul because I see this country becoming frighteningly fascist and plutocratic, and he's the candidate that most wants to neuter their power.

He wants to end corporate purchasing of politicians and thinks the our entire political process right now is republicans and democrats pretending to fight but in fact just carving the funding pie into roughly equal parts each term.

He may not be the solution, and I probably have problems with a lot of his thinking, but besides dismantling the apparatus of our economic bondage to the rich, I don't know what else to do, besides letting the empire self-destruct.

I listened to a piece on Ron Paul on NPR. It was about his early days and he came across has a recently decent bloke. Even though his practice was carrying large loans he preferred to treat patients for free rather than file for federal funds.

It will self-destruct eventually, so what's the point? We can't do shit to stop it without a revolution of sorts, I presume.

Speaking of collapse, I had a talk with a friend of mine, and ignoring that he is a right wing nut, he does think our time is coming to an end (like Rome sort of). Does anyone believe the economy will eventually rebound as it has before? Things are cyclical. I just get this doomsday feel that the infrastructure might go belly up in the next ten years and with it our nation will come crashing down. Which then leads to what, chaos? Revolution? Takeover by some coalition of forces?

No the US economy will not significantly rebound. We don't make anything these days and we can't borrow our way out of it. The US's best days are in the past. Thankfully it will be a slow lingering decline so I should be OK. My kids and grand kids not so much.

According to the UN, 17.3% of the world's manufacturing is done in China. The UK, which has the world's 6th largest percentage of the world's manufacturing, has 3.1%. Care to take a guess where on that spectrum the US' percentage is?

Probably still number one where its been for over a century. However the share is dropping and using dollar value isn't the best barometer because US goods cost a lot more to produce, and there lies the problem.
