Plech and Ramshock. I don't think the Republicans will want to tank the economy again because, the business community would be very unhappy. Recently a bunch of CEOs said the US needs to increase taxes, while of course addressing deficits.

Its inevitable, they will move to the center. Its all part of the circle of life.

Yes, but it won't happen this year, and hopefully not for a good few years either. The lunatics have taken over the asylum and they're not very keen on giving it back.

personally I would be very happy if the GOP moved to the center. But I don't see that happening because the teabaggers and religious fecks are rabid.

For the GOP to come back it needs to purge these freaks. For that to happen the party needs to be broken...and then it can rebuild itself. While I will always vote democrat, it will not be good for the country to have only one viable party.

My hope is the moderate republicans like Powell and Clarke will eventually be the leaders in a the new Republican party and we can have an honest debate on policies that benefit all Americans.

It's even more baffling when you consider that people like Rahm Emmanuel and David Axelrod, who like nothing more than a street-fight were in charge of the messaging. The only way I can see it work if some Hollywood media types fund and set up a 501 (c) 3 - an 'issues-only' Super-Pac - and start hammering away, every week of every year, election or no election. Or they could just poison Roger Ailes's Scotch.

I was saying the exact same thing to my wife yesterday.

WTF did he just say?

The base have had to suck it up and vote for someone they detest, they are not going to be able to get the mania out of their systems till they get their way, and finally nominate a hard-right asshole - and even then, once might not be enough.

Interestingly (or maybe, predictably) Teabagger opposition to immigration reform is strongest in counties with significant Latino populations. By 2028, it will be statistically impossible for them to win without a big chunk of the Latino vote, if nothing else, then simply to keep Arizona and Texas from being flipped by the Dems. If they keep trying to rely on Cuban voters, well there aren't enough Cubans in Cuba to make that work!

Jebus, that was brutal.

What effects are the changing demographics having on the states over the next four years? New Mexico's already turned safely Democrat, Nevada is getting there, will Arizona be a battleground in 2016? Anywhere else to watch out for?

Colorado next cycle will not even be a contest. It will e safe Democrat. Arizona will be like CO now.

to change you need to address honestly what exists.

its people like him who will bring the party back from the abyss.

I wonder if a more 'softly-softly' approach might not work better in the long-run?

As an aside, could this create a big shit-storm and turn off a few Repub voters over the next 10 days? Can't imagine the media not giving this a lot of air-time and column inches.

the softly-softly approach means tolerance of scum who race bait at the drop of a hat just to gin up votes.

If you want to change things, you need to stand up and speak the truth.

I would have no fear about voting for someone like a Wilkerson. But the GOP as it is now would never allow such a man to get the nomination of anything.

EDIT: I don't know the effect this will have on the election. But it is a distraction Romney would not have wanted.

Precisely my point. All he'll get is accusations of 'RINO, RINO' hurled at him, he will be shouted down and in fact people might try to force him out of the party. What will that accomplish within the GOP?

I was reading this superb piece about George Romney's failed campaign today

http://nymag.com/news/features/george-romney-2012-5/

and it just sort of drove the point home that any appeal to morality in that party probably died with Lincoln. No, the only way the Repubs will give up race-baiting is when it will be profitable for them to do so - either dollars from their corporate pay-masters or votes from the general public.

life starts with pain.

I've said this before. I honestly do not see the Republicans winning the Presidency in the near future. The party will soon see this and make the purge. It will be painful but they will slowly rebuild it when moderates return.

Thought he was a full-hearted Romney supporter? Or is there still some hope for him yet?

What's the economy forecast to be like come 2016? Can't see anything but a bloodbath for them if it recovers well and they haven't changed by then.

Well, Moody's predict 12m jobs to be added between now and then, no matter who is President - but are you really going to believe a rating's agency ever again? :p

looks like Romney is accepting Ohio will go for Obama and is going to try and flip WI.

Obama will be in Green Bay Tuesday. Biden was just there. Heard Caroline Kennedy will be there and at NH.

Apparently also why they're buying Minnesota ad time, some of it gets into Wisconsin.

so that is where Mittens gets his job creation number from.

Yep, and neither the media, nor Obama ever feel the need to point this out. :wenger:

Romney's 'jobs plan' is to take credit for the Obama Recovery, once it really picks up.

[EDIT: Excal said it better]

This known projection has been bandied around for a while. The catalyst for the US economy will be the housing market. The existing supply is almost gone and housing construction will be expected to raise next year or early 2014. Thus the increase in housing prices/values.

This will spur the economy next year regardless of who is in power.

Has already started to rise, September was the best month since July 2008. It's household debt that hasn't quite been wiped out yet.

It will happen... or at least one major leg/foundation of the US economy will spur or at least keep the economy moving forward despite major headwinds in Europe and China -- according to some of the non-partisan economist have said that whoever gets elected will benefit from Obama's past 4 years.

As noted, Obama's been the one behind the drone strikes, but also, here's the poll chart:

It looks like it's about 14-11 for Romney, so fully 3/4ths of Pakistanis polled didn't have an opinion there.

I'm just surprised that anyone would think Romney might be any better.
