Fox tells me it was a draw for who the women will like coming out of this debate because they both were aggressive. Who cares about women's rights, it's all about their demeanor on stage.

I love it that part of Romney's plan to make sure women receive equal pay is to allow them more flexible schedules so they can go home to take care of the children and cook still.

Yes. Its not just a POTUS vote. We have all sorts of shit to vote for. Sheriffs, attorneys, property appraisers etc, plus a shit lot of referendum type stuff.

Didn't realise that, surely if they simplifed it more would turn out to vote? Seems silly.

I predict by the next election though you'll be able to vote via facebook. Or by poll on Redcafe.

Voting here is ridiculous. The ballot is six pages long in our area, people take half a day off work to vote.

:confused::confused::confused:

Leaders of the free world???? How you let your electoral system get so buggered in beyond me.

Step 1 to fixing the USA: Make democracy accessible.

I'm thankful I just have to mark an X on a slip of paper. Takes 30 seconds to 15 minutes depending on the line up.

How is joe average remotely qualified to assess whether a Sheriff or attorney will be good at his/her job or not?

Jindal opposes all abortions
Jindal opposes the legalization of same-sex marriage

Personally I prefer it because rather than just ticking a single party, I get to decide the fitness of people at multiple levels of government.

As an example of what our ballots look like, I live in a small-ish city (~100K) in a rural area. My ballot includes election for President & Vice President, US Senator, US Representative, State Senator, State Assemblyman, four School Board races, City Council, eleven state ballot initiatives, and 3 county and city ballot initiatives.

That said, I don't take a day off work to do it. I figure out how I'm voting ahead of time. Takes me 5-10 minutes.

EDIT: Should say, takes me 5-10 minutes on election day. I'll spend hours beforehand researching, especially the ballot initiatives, which can be quite tough to gauge the full effect of.

And, y'know, it SHOULD take work. This is civic duty, not an annoyance keeping me from my latte.

There is an irony about your question. The average Joe is incapable of choosing a decent plumber let alone a President.

In fairness, that question was pretty silly. The way they get the (I thought it was 77 but she said) 72 cents on the dollar is by adding up all the earnings of all working men and women, then dividing by the numbers in each group- that is clearly not fit for purpose.

The most recent report accepted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (admittedly done under Bush- so may have been made with an agenda) into the difference that factors in the lifestyle differences that men and women make (which could of course have gender role reasons, like expectation on women to look after the children- not business practice ones) found that the real difference is only 2 cents on the dollar as a national average.

The wider point was very valid though, and Romney's answer was a joke.

John Kerry just said "8 trillion dollars" exactly like Dr Evil.

I live in a small town. If I don't know anything about the people or the position, there are some really stupid positions like head of solid waste or some crap, insurance commissioner, I don't vote for that position. I'm fairly knowledgeable about national and state politics so I can vote in a qualified manner for most of these positions.

For local elections, I vote for people I know or who I know will do the best job. For offices like clerk of court, district attorney, sheriff, county judges, I know quite a few of them or at least know of them. Overall politics aren't as important in these type situations, whether they're democrat or republican. Almost all people in my area are democrats, but quite a few of them are DINOs.

Most people, though, have no clue who they're voting for. If I don't know something about a race or candidates and there is no real reason to vote for them, like the lady whose name is in all of our elevators Cherie Berry, I just don't mark them.

I actually like to run through the ballot initiatives with a mate at work that sees things totally different from me. We've each convinced the other a couple of times, though that's a minority of cases. Personally I enjoy it.

That whole binders of women thing sounded like he was wanting to appear diverse rather than looking for the best people for the job. Somewhat like "I can't have an illegal tending the yard"...it was about appearances rather than a conviction.

Tonight I found out why I don't have a girlfriend. Mitt put them all in binders. Just because his grandpa had 8 wives doesn't mean he should get to hog all of the women...

Voting is your right so shouldn't be shirked. If you do don't complain about the result.

Thought both did well enough in certain areas with an overall edge to Obama.

The 8 point GOP lean would suggest Obama did quite well. Strangely, CNN interpreted it as being tantamount to a draw.

Much better performance from Obama - tbf it had to be, he was essentially a zombie for the 1st one.

Crowley did a decent job as moderator - again we were starting off with pretty low standards.

Obama 'won' that debate.

Manchester United 4-3 Arsenal, it was close- let's call it a draw.

I think you are missing the point of a debate. they have two objectives: enthuse their own base, which they both did; and wow the swing voters, which neither did.
