Well it's simple if you have a world view that is based on confrontation, competition and religion you vote for conservatives.
If you think tolerance, cooperation and education is the way forward you will probably vote left.
Of course that would be what the case for the traditional left and right would be, which doesn't exist anymore, since republicans are now Taliban and dems are now republicans or something like that.
