Wait, so is Ron Paul flirting with the idea of running as an Indie?

Will he steal more voters from the Republicans or the Democrats though? Do we know? Because he seems to have a lot of nutty supporters in both camps. And that's really the only question, because he won't win, thankfully.

How can those American territories vote for GOP nomination but not POTUS?

Basically the laws covering the presidential elections do not give the territories electoral votes, but each party is free to allow the territories to have a say in their nomination process since the laws do not prevent them from doing so.

Oh he wont win, but this could be the 'Nader 2000 effect' all over again.

I strongly suspect he'll leech more votes from the GOP considering the bulk of his support base are made up of fanatical libertarians instead of progressive lefties, so I'd imagine they'd despise Obama more than Romney. Besides, Obama's foreign policy isn't really all that different to his republican counterparts so I don't see many of the Paulites being drawn from the Obama crowd.

or the Perot effect from before that.

do you think lardarse is a one term governor?
Great speaker. Watch him throw his jacket off and roll up his sleeves. Its his MO I had the displeasure of sitting with him in his lixury box at Giant Stadium for a show. I got invited by my Dem senator friend but didn't realise Christie was gonna be there. Hes a nerd, but comes off as a tough NJguy. He's far from it.
He will be reelcted in a blue state.

Remember this from the 2008 election? Love him or hate him, Powell speaks some serious truth here

Mrs.Romney talking about tough times with bills. One of the richest people in America. Ugh

Hey, she's heard how hard it is out there to get ahead. She said so herself. People have told her. That's not to say she doesn't have her own problems. Like which Cadillac to drive or how to operate Mitt's car elevato...

When will Mitt's other wives be speaking?

you lot need to put up a good blue color tough guy.

Springsteen comes to mind ;)

some great posts about Ann Romney's speech.

RNC weed games: I take a toke every time someone reminds us that Mitt saved the olympics. gods I;m stonedddd

I want to talk to you tonight. Look into your hearts. I thought this was the republican convention and not a telethon. Ann I think you misunderstood.....this is a convention and not a telethon.

"This man will not fail."
Yeah. Just like he didn't fail his last presidential bid.

Early in her speech, Ann referenced the approaching hurricane and commented that we should give thanks to the brave "first responders" to those impacted by the storm.
First responders -- wouldn't those be the very firefighters, police, nurses, etc that her husband implied were overpaid, and furthermore that there were too many people on the public payroll in these professions?

So, if she was stuck in a house on so many long rainy winter afternoons, how did her skin become so wrinkled and sun - damaged ?
Sunning on the French Riviera, perhaps ?

Ann Romney will go on to discuss her husband's upbringing: "Mitt was born a poor black child..."

See, a decent speaker. Came off too tough tonight By the way , NJ has a terrible economy. He made it worse.
He should have explained the rep cuts in hurricane relief funds,as it's bearing down on New Orleans .

Okay, i missed both of their appearances.

However i've just been watching the Republican News Channel's review of events, Juan Williams thought Christie gave the better speech whereas Brit Hume described Ann Romney's as "the best speech ever given by a political wife".

Williams is going to speak more for the floating voter out there, so his belief that Mrs Romney failed to connect is a plus for Obama in that sense.

Excuse me if this was already posted.

"Two attendees were ejected from Republican National Convention on Tuesday for throwing nuts at a black CNN camerawoman.

The individuals told her "this is how we feed animals" as they threw the nuts, multiple witness said.

Convention security and police removed the two from the convention centre shortly after the incident."

A racist republican? Well I never!

The weird thing is they probably brought the nuts with them, hoping to find a black person to abuse.

Matt Taibi has a brilliant write up of just how fecking horrible Romney & Bain were and how ridiculous it is that we aren't talking about it in next week's Rolling Stone.

In the non-liberal world its perfectly legitimate and correct to strip down loss making companies. It's what private equity firms and management consultancy do.

Facts speak for themselves: Mitt Romney is a successful man. Probably one of the most successful businessman to attempt the presidency.

Ignoring that Bain hardly limited themselves to unprofitable companies when it came to stripping them down, it really has feck-all to do with being "liberal" or not. It might be perfectly legal for Romney to have made billions of dollars for himself and his company by bleeding companies dry and ensuring those companies suffered the losses for themselves and their investors, while taking the profits for themselves, but only your hardcore plutocrats find that to be in anyway a laudable effort.

To the rest of America, it's clear that Romney's "success" is that of a man born of privilege, pioneering new ways to suck all the value out of a company, leaving the middle-class investors out to sea and the working-class employees out of work. Staples is the exception. It seems clear that far more often, the relationship between Bain Capital and the companies it invested in was an inherently parasitic one, with no value added by Romney to anyone but him and his Bain cohorts. Putting a man like that in the White House is a recipe for disaster.

It's why we've heard so little from the Romney campaign about his "successful" career in this election. Because they know perfectly well that outside of your one-percenters and wealth-worshipping Randroids, people aren't apt to find his record at Bain to be the sort of thing they actually want in a President.

The only reason he won the last time was he stood against a horrible incumbent.

Select a decent democrat and lardarse will be gone. I understand there already is a lot of dirt around this guy which will come out whether he chooses to run for Governor again or if he decides to run for President in 2016.

Yes that approach will work in blue collar america, perfect for job creation is asset stripping and outsourcing. Good luck with that one Mitt.

It's remarkable how much more sensible, eloquent, intelligent, funny, honest and decent Obama comes across compared to his opponent.

It's really pissing me off to hear this 'you didn't build that' shit constantly. As somebody else pointed out, the repubs should have their 'we built that' sign under the deficit clock in the auditorium.

Can you imagine Romney doing anything half as classy as this? Shows how fast the Republican party has descended into full blown lunacy.

McCain talking about "love conquering hate" just now, i wonder how many in the audience share that view?

Do you not have speeches on policy at Republican conventions? Is it all cringeworthy speeches on personality?

feck me. Rice talked about seeing an "economic meltdown" due to "bad policies".

Yes, but which administration oversaw this?

Do politicians even hear themselves when they talk? :wenger:

How seriously was Rice considered for the VP ticket? Did it all end at her being pro-choice or extend to her being tainted by a senior role in the Bush administration?

Condi is a horrible speaker. She'll really need to improve if she wants to get further in politics. She sounds like a nervous librarian.
