The polls are tightening up now. Obama still has the edge but many of the toss up swing states are too close to call. It looks like Florida will pretty much be the key and its neck and neck down here. In recent weeks the Romney adverts have been far more effective and the gaps have been narrowing.

neck and redneck in Florida ;)

Much of Florida is about as diverse as it gets. There are so many transplants here the locals are significantly out numbered in most areas. Actually I think there is one Floridian born resident on our street of 53 houses. In case it passed you by its also a swing State so its not a GOP stronghold like many States.

ok.
it's the same in southern CA and northern VA, mostly transplants.
it'll be interesting to me how VA votes this time. they went for Obama in 08 which was the iirc the 1st time in a while the state went democrat. not sure they'll do it again.

Isn't it rednecky up north? I've not been up that way but I hear the panhandle is more like the rest of the southern USA.

I think there is a certain amount of apathy when it comes to Obama. I like him and he rode the hope and change ticket nicely in 2008. However his record in office is hardly inspiring and that deficit and stagnating economy is bound to take its toll.

Most of the Obama adverts are fairly negative and they tend to be attacking Romney. That is probably not a bad idea but it might backfire on them if the economy falters before November.

The inland countries tend to me more traditional Floridians. New money tends to levitate towards the beaches and major cities.

Ok.. so, it seems that we are permitted to post pics and videos. I keep hearing from Raoul that it's not permitted.

Only in the football forums, and only if they're not football related, i.e. no meme pics.

You have to put them in spoilers. Pages load really slow when you clog them up with pics/vids.

No, you don't, but it's a nice thing to do certainly!

Gif/Meme Rules

The use of gifs/pictures/memes/videos has gotten out of hand to the point where it is ruining discussions. While we want humour posting the same dozen gifs/"y u no?" memes has long ceased to be funny - if it ever was - so we have taken the decision to remove them from the football forums.

Obviously, they can at times add something to the discussion, but the issue is everyone also thought this before, which led us to where we are now. If you feel a point can't be made without text alone, then at the least please keep it football-related. If in doubt, don't post it. Warnings and infractions will be given when these simple considerations haven't been met, and we will remove anything we deem to be to the detriment of the standard of discussion in the football forums.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

saw the start of the exchange on Morning Joe. Priebies or whatever the turds name is no better than Romney in barefaced lies too.

A truly punchable sleazebag. At least Mehlman was just annoying and Steele comedic. This asshole is just one more white, rich feck.

just looked up what matthews accused him off and he is absolutely correct.

Romney and the RNC are playing teh race card...they don't have any other card to play.

Heck. They don't have the Hispanic, Black or Asian vote, nor women, nor educated whites.

All they do have are the uneducated racist white gits. That is where their party is. So they have to shore up that vote.

Disgraceful.

And Mika has zero credibility....she has to say yes to her 'boss' Joe.

Very nice publicity stunt at the RNC. They have the national debt clock in massive numbers increasing above the stage. Plus another clock showing how much the debt has risen during the conference.

They'd add a number of how much the proposals in the Romney-Ryan budget would reduce that number, except that neither has any specific proposals to do so.

Propaganda at a politcal convention? No way.

Not really propaganda though is it. A real time clock on the ever increasing national debt. Its a very hot topic and they have come up with a clever way of ramming it down everyone's throats and making it one of the campaign issues, which Obama definitely doesn't want.

Priebus could barely contain his contempt. It was excellent how much he despised Matthews for engaging in Paxman journalism.

Priebus came on Meet the press and said 'The President has blood on his hands' because he cuts Medicare providers waste by 716 billion. He made it sound like Medicare beneficiaries are the ones that are facing these cuts when not one penny is being taken from. In fact Medicare is extended by 8 years. And Gregory did not challenge him... This is a journalist????

Still remember Brian Waldon taking Thatcher apart in one his interviews.

Its a sham in this country.

Matthews does get emotional...but at least he calls it like it is.

I watched about three weeks of gregory and haven't watched since. I used to tape MTP every week without fail when Russert did it.

Russert was the last great journalist on tv.

I don't normally watch Gregory. But this was right after the Ryan pick and I wanted to see what garbage the GOP reps were going to say...and I was not 'disappointed'.

That crap about Obama cutting by 716b - that's the same fecking number the Ryan budget plan calls for. But Romney and Ryan keep chirping about it to their religilous nutters and throwing out that number. Yet they're doing the same thing - and turning it into a voucher program!

the GOP has finally become a faith based party.

Once the Republican party started using religion to bring home the votes, they were stuck. But they never expected to be taken over by them. Now the Aikin types have taken over the party.

Pregnancy From Rape Similar To 'Having A Baby Out Of Wedlock

Tom Smith, GOP Senate Candidate: Pregnancy From Rape Similar To 'Having A Baby Out Of Wedlock'

Trying to distance himself from the "legitimate rape" comment that Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) made last week, Pennsylvania Senate candidate Tom Smith (R) stirred up further controversy by comparing a pregnancy caused by rape to "having a baby out of wedlock."

Smith said Monday at the Pennsylvania Press Club that although he condemns Akin's comment, he agrees with Akin that abortion should be banned without any exceptions, including for rape and incest victims. Pressed by a reporter on how he would handle a daughter or granddaughter becoming pregnant as a result of rape, Smith said he had already "lived something similar to that" in his family.

"She chose life, and I commend her for that," he said. "She knew my views. But, fortunately for me, I didn't have to ... she chose the way I thought. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't rape."

When a reporter asked Smith to clarify what kind of situation was similar to becoming pregnant from rape, the candidate responded, "Having a baby out of wedlock."

He added, "Put yourself in a father's position. Yes, it is similar."

Smith's comment comes at an inconvenient time for Republicans, who have been scrambling to distract voters from the firestorm of controversy over Akin's comment last week. Addressing the subject of an abortion exception for rape victims, Akin said that victims of "legitimate rape" rarely become pregnant because "the female body has ways to shut that whole thing down."

Smith, who is challenging incumbent Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) in the November election, told reporters that he does not agree with Akin's remark at all. "He should have never said anything like that," Smith said.

You would think that'd be a bit risky since the had to add an additional digit to the original debt clock in New York during the last Republican president's term.

Another ahole in the gop. Surprise. The last part really gets to me. He should never had said that. He means he should never have been caught on camera saying it. That's a problem with the gop. They are stuck in the pre-web era. They can't go around feeding to the local audience anymore and get away with it.

These numbers are too tight for my liking, when do the debates start so Obama can destroy that cnut?

DOn't get to worried about the pre-election polling. As I said in previous posts the numbers tend to swing one way then the other during the campaign, around each sides convention, etc.

You are right though once the debates hit, Obama will destroy Mitt and build a comfortable enough lead. I don't think Obama will win in a landslide, popular vote wise, but he should comfortably get enough electoral votes to win.

If Obama crashes during the debates, well then he will have nobody but himself to blame.
