These people are fecking monsters . . .

"Matt Davis, a Michigan attorney who was once the state Republican Party's spokesman, sent out an email that asked whether armed rebellion would be justified in the wake of the court's decision. According to Michigan Capital Confidential, a local news service that originally reported the missive, Davis sent it "moments after the Supreme Court ruling to numerous new media outlets and limited government activists."

armed revolution works both ways.

Yes, I see that possibility too - the key is, of course, how the Court develops this ruling. I see the liberal wing taking the narrow view you do here, and Alito, Thomas and Scalia drawing broader conclusions. I think the conservative legal movement are playing the long game, and Roberts is the type of incrementalist jurist who would keep chipping away at areas, rather than overruling them completely.

Jonathan Chait and Will Wilkinson agree with you

I'm struggling to see the big deal. So in future, if progressive politicians want to legislate a new social programme, they will have to persuade the public that taxpayers should fund it. Isn't that how things should be?

I'm curious to see how Cantor's house vote on repealing the law plays out. The republican caucus will have to take a unified stand but individually have to deal with constituent anger when they realise what's potentially being taken away from them.

It's a risky fight to take on in a crucial election year. Obama will enjoy nothing more than speechifying about his landmark legislation and Romney won't be able to pound him on it.

Sounds like a plan........just one question who picks up the medical bills for the injured

Except the loud and angry part of their constituency hates it without any iota of hesitation, consideration, or in most cases, contemplation. Meanwhile, they know there's feck-all chance the repeal's going anywhere in the Senate, so they know there'll be no fallout in that regard.

I think a lot of Congressional Republicans consider Romney a nonstarter, and have little or no interest in tying their star to his.

In short, yes. The big question it seems is this - do progressives have the stomach and the will to make the argument that taxation is for the common good?

Roberts statement on why he ruled for saving the act gives me some hope.

While he thought the madate was unconstitutional, it would be wrong to overturn the will of the people. So he found a way to save the Act by saying it was a 'tax'.

While he is a conservative, I think he may not be an 'activist' judge.

Theres nothing really Romney can hang his hat on, he didnt want to go after Bin Laden, he talks about economy Obama responds with Bain, if he talks about Obamacare he gets hit with Romneycare and flip flopping. If this was in another democratic country apart from the US it would be a non contest already.

"This is such an atrocity perpetrated on the American people" Really, that was said there in all seriousness?

It's been a real picnic for those millions on the wrong end of the current system i suppose.

Th Republicans actually intend to put this ahead of the economy for the election? Well more fool them and may they suffer as a result i say.

hehe...I'll be seeing my tea party neighbour at a party this weekend. I can't wait to talk to him about politics an' shit!

As for Kimberley Guilfoyle, she can say whatever she likes as long as she is on telly. I just stare at her tits anyway.

so much butthurt. Aren't the republicans actually wanting to increase taxes on poorer people when they said that federal income tax base should be 'broadened' and yet a 2.5% penalty (as far as I know thats the correct figure) for failing to buy health insurance when everyone is still using the system is too much for them?

All that plastic surgery and she now looks like something that crawled up of the ocean.

Honest question, was your basic USSR/Nazi news report actually more full of shit than Fox News?

Oh i dunno, i saw an interesting feature on vegan cuisine during one of teir commercial breaks.

And as far as i am aware they didn't come out in support of Ron Paul.

On the other hand Fox News has more in common with Iran's Press TV than the BBC. Don't tell them i said that though. ;)

I really, really despise Hannity. One of the few people I'd really love to punch.

The polls in the next few weeks will be interesting. We are getting bombarded with anti-Obamacare adverts right now, and 60 of the public are against the proposals. If Romney can't catch up in the polls now he may as well start planning his vacations for late November.

He still has the conventions, VP pick, and debates to get a bump in the polls. If he doesn't do so in each of those it will be difficult for him to win. Obama has done a good job of reinforcing support from various demographic groups - gays, hispanics, and now progressives. He's also done quite well on the foreign policy front. Its going to be an uphill climb for Romney. His only chance would be a drastic deterioration in the economy in the next few months.

Normally I stay up and watch the election coverage, this coming election I am guessing I will be able to go to bed early feeling quite comfortable with the fact that Obama will win.

Just off the Romney VP rumor mill

At the moment yes. But his lead is probably about 2.5 points, and there's a long way till November.

Personally I still think the economy, aided by Europalypse and maybe Israel/Iran, will feck things up.

correct. a lot of events favouring Romney will have to happen.

nothing is a certainty. But the strong probability is Obama will be re elected.

Why would the economy tank in the next 3-4 months when the trend has been towards a slow recovery ? Also, Israel and Iran aren't likely to go to war are they.

Where as O'Reilly is a just a dumbass rightwing puppet (probably does it because it makes him buckets of money) that no one really pays much attention too, Hannity comes across as a smug prick. Beck is still the worst of the bunch, he has a massive cult of personality complex.

Seeing a few RWs/TPs posting on FB about Obamacare cutting Tricare from active duty and retirees. I can't seem to find much info about it and refuse to believe the exerts posted in the linked articles (the one post was from a conservative/right wing website, The Washington Free Beacon). Oh how I would love to respond with "facts."

Why do you even take any notice of them let alone watch them? I have no clue who any of them are TBH. I might recognize their faces but I couldn't put a face to the names, and I have no fecking idea what their shows are likely because I am NOT interested.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the right wing shows actually have more left wing viewers just because they love to hate them.

I think Obamacare is Romney's best shot at winning. Its already opposed by 60% of voters. I haven't encountered a single person that is in favor of OC in my office. The whole idea of anything federally funded has very negative undertones for most Americans. Pressure groups have a ton of money for anti-Obamcare adverts, and they have already started in earnest in our area.

If Obama keeps his lead in the next few weeks its game over IMO.
