US Politics

Mitch was once seen as a dangerous guy for the country, I believe. Now seeing him as some sort of reasonable and moderate among MAGAs tell you all about the GOP's (and the country's) current state.
Turtle is the Stringer Bell of US politics.

It's from this Financial Times opinion piece: Why are Americans dying so young?

Here's some more graphics:

I am sure there is a correlation between American work habits compared to Europeans as well. Having worked with Americans on projects over the last couple of years, they have a very unhealthy attitude towards work. Regularly answering emails on holidays, working longer hours, taking on a lot of stress for delivering on time, etc.

Whilst I'm sure there is something in what you say there are 3 way more obvious ones

Road Traffic Accidents - 43K + fatal crashes annually
Drugs, especially opioids - 100K per year
Guns - 40K + per year

Not all these are 'young' people but a significant % are

Sooooooo...your reminder that this is still a thing.

Project 2025 envisions widespread changes across the entire government, particularly with regard to economic and social policy and the role of the federal government and federal agencies.

The plan proposes slashing U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) funding, dismantling the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, gutting environmental and climate change regulations to favor fossil fuel production, and eliminating the cabinet Departments of Education and Commerce.[9] Citing an anonymous source, The Washington Post reported Project 2025 includes immediately invoking the Insurrection Act of 1807 to deploy the military for domestic law enforcement and directing the DOJ to pursue Trump adversaries.[10]

Project Director Paul Dans, a former Trump administration official, said in September 2023 that Project 2025 is "systematically preparing to march into office and bring a new army, aligned, trained, and essentially weaponized conservatives ready to do battle against the deep state."[11]

Alright, so which country should me & my wife, both soon to be retirees, move to? I'm favouring a European one, cos we have a EU passports.

A pity about Brexit. If it didn't happen, you would be able to retire in UK

seemed fishy

top reply is funny too

basically young people are pranking internet-based opinion polls.

The less I read about US politics, the better off I am as it's so toxic and partisan.
Are other developed countries politics as broken as the US is?

Trumpism has contaminated Canada as well. The Tories here are now going full Trump-like with their current leader Pierre Poilièvre and there is now basically no decorum nor respect from the right for established institutions whatsoever.

I don't know the insanity of US. I mean Trump is something else. But the few countries I follow slighlty (UK, Canada, Spain) are trending to what we are seeing in US. And headlines on other countries seems like it doesn't look great wither. The new politics is shifted to the right, they are liars, incompetent and grifters

State of the union, lots of people there, including some people who shouldn't be allowed in, the supreme court justices, for one.
