US Politics

Dont get me wrong, feck GOP. But this might mean stopping GOP gerrymandering and start Dem gerrymandering? or only GOP does this?

Everybody gerrymanders in the US when they can. In this case the governor's map was neutral. The GOP accepted it as the supreme court would draw a liberal leaning map as the state as a whole is leaning left now.

Not in this case. WI was regarded as the most gerrymandered state in the country. The GOP had super majorities in both houses of state congress, in a state Biden won and in which Ron Johnson is the only GOO statewide office holder. Evers has trumpeted fair, but not advantageous, maps for both his terms. He is a really good Governor.

True. I seem to remember it melting on one particular island if left sitting for too long.

It was bad enough during humid Toronto summers.
Had many a WMC partially ruined by heat waves in Florida during February. It was like dealing with bees wax.

Both do it, but Wisconsin is / was an egregious case of the GOP doing it.

Thanks for your answers and clarifications

If America was like Europe in terms of the states being countries, it would contain some of the most batshit crazy countries in the world.

A large number of those new countries would be economic wastelands.

While its good news and all that Wisconsin dems reinstates fair maps, they should have gerrymandered it to their advantage.

If you are ever going to get a national ban on gerrymandering, bringing GOP to the table will only happen if they can be beaten at their own game first, in my opinion.

Alexander Smirnov was arrested again a few hours ago and is back in custody. The grip the Russians have on the Republicans is a constant source of amazement.High time heads rolled, looking at you Gym Jordan.

Precisely. Gerrymander the shit out of Dem controlling states, same as GOP does. And then try to reach a deal where the gerrymandering is removed everywhere.

If Dems do not gerrymander as much as they can (to be fair, they usually do), GOP is not gonna stop gerrymander too.

This probably means a Putin-stooge will end up as senate leader, bad news.

Dems take back the house, only for aid now getting stonewalled in the senate instead.

Always hated McTurtle. However, the GOP has gone so batshit crazy that likely someone worse will replace him.

If it is Thune or Cronyn, it probably won’t make much difference. However, I think it is unlikely that it will be one of McTurtle’s people. So expect some Trump acolyte like Rick or Tim Scott.

Isn't part of the reason Cocaine Mitch has been so terrible, that he was actually good at his job (from the GOP perspective)? That he understood power and knew how to keep his party in line. Look at how the Republicans are faring in the House with a MAGA loon in charge. Maybe the Senate is easier to manage, since there are fewer and generally more senior politicians, but even if they replace Mitch with a psycho, it would have to be psycho that can also be effective.

I don't think you're completely wrong, and the Senate does seem to be a place where moderation is more likely than in the House - but one need only look at the tactics of anyone from Cruz to Grassley, Cornyn and Graham during something like the Kavanagh hearings to see the crazy just gets less media attention. Enabling that more seems more likely than for someone to put a lid on it.

Good riddance. But, he got what he wanted in terms of long term goals. Flooding all levels of the judicial system with conservative timebombs that will last for generations after him. And keeping his caucus in line at least to the point where you dont see the open revolts the GOP House has had.

I am hoping we can get rid of Ted Cruz here in Texas with him. We will try!

Yep, that is likely. Mitch while never cared much about legislating, cared a lot about judicial appointments and keeping his conference in line. And he was really really good at that.

A GOP civil war in the senate would be great, especially if they win the senate.

Mitch was once seen as a dangerous guy for the country, I believe. Now seeing him as some sort of reasonable and moderate among MAGAs tell you all about the GOP's (and the country's) current state.
