US Politics

Why would anyone have any particular "thoughts" about that? It's a joke.

He's clearly plotting to use the military as his personal hit squad, abolish the DOJ, install sycophants in every position, overtake school boards and election boards, engage in vote suppression and openly suggesting he'll abolish democracy.

Wait...

They actually devised a new way to kill people after the previous attempt at killing him through lethal injection failed because they couldn't find a vein, and subsequent injection plans were delayed because they couldn't find the drugs involved. The fact that they went out of their way to devise a new way to kill him is pretty sadistic.

Interesting but very sad interview with the guy in the guardian - https://theguardian.com/us-news/2024/jan/21/kenneth-smith-alabama-execution-nitrogen-gas

Tbh I can somewhat understand the want for revenge that the death penalty gives people(Especially the family of the victims). But I agree with you it’s a insane and disgusting policy to put into practice.

Advocating for the death penalty is to proclaim that someone's vengeance is more important than the life of an innocent person, because there can be no doubt that there are people on death row, and who have been executed, who have done nothing wrong.

And perfectly on brand for the majority of this country. The first and last answers, when taken together are sickening.

The couple of articles I’ve read seem to suggest this new method isn’t any “better” at killing and could be in fact more dangerous to both the prisoner and the executors. Really messed up.

Agree. I’m always depressed at how well it polls in a number of different countries.

Alabama Republican: ‘Everyone has some type of racist in them’

An Alabama congressman said that he believes everyone “has some type of racist in them” during a debate in the state’s 1st Congressional District on Wednesday night.

The debate moderator asked Reps. Jerry Carl (R-Ala.) and Barry Moore (R-Ala.) if they agreed with GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley saying the U.S. has “never been a racist country” earlier this month. The two Alabama Republicans are vying to be the GOP nominee for Alabama’s 1st Congressional District after the state’s congressional maps were redrawn last year.

“Everyone has some racist in them of some type,” Carl answered. “I used to work a lot with ministers … and I had some very private conversations. Everyone has some type of racist in them. My mother through Pearl Harbor — she couldn’t stand the Japanese, she couldn’t stand it. And it used to just eat her from the inside out.”

He then went on to rail against how Alabama’s congressional maps were redrawn last year, suggesting that the maps should not be based on race. Federal judges approved a new congressional map for Alabama that maintains the state’s one Black-majority district and nearly adds a second one, which would boost Democrats’ chances for flipping a seat.
I mean Alabama, so not surprised. What a way to make a justification of suppressing votes and trying to defy court decisions on fair maps. Everyone's a lil racist huh!

Can you imagine if the actual 2nd American Civil War didn't start over Jan 6, Trump attempting a coup, a terrorist attack on the government, or anything like that - but instead over states' rights to use barbed wire to drown kids?

The GOP's pivot from policy to grievance has led to what we are seeing now. Their drug addict like base has an ever-increasing tolerance for the level of rage needed to keep them satiated and I can't see this ending well.

I'm sure the president of Columbia is being hauled up before Congress any minute now...

What's this about then?

"As Somalis, one day we will go after our missing territories" in reference to somali inhibited regions in Kenya and Ethiopia.

Fecking hell, what a day. What a time to be alive. Anthony scores AND with his right foot, and I agree with something Tucker said.

Everything is upside down .

Oklahoma GOP votes to censure Lankford over Senate border talks

The Oklahoma Republican Party approved a resolution Saturday condemning and censuring Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) for his role as a chief negotiator in the Senate border security talks between Democrats and Republicans.

The resolution — a copy of which was posted on X, formerly Twitter — by state Sen. Dusty Deevers (R) said, “Senator Lankford playing fast and loose with Democrats on our border policy not only disfranchises legal immigrants seeking citizenship but it also puts the safety and security of Americans in great danger.”

“It is interesting, Republicans, four months ago, would not give funding for Ukraine, for Israel and for our southern border because we demanded changes in policy. So we actually locked arms together and said, ‘We’re not going to give money for this. We want a change in law,'” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“And now, it’s interesting, a few months later, when we’re finally getting to the end, they’re like, ‘Oh, just kidding, I actually don’t want a change in law because of presidential election year,'” he added.
All day long everyday right wing media squawking in their ears about the migrant waves coming to kill them in the grocery store, steal their jobs, take half their paychecks, sneeze dangerous diseases on their kids.

Its a crisis, Dems want the open borders! Then some people actually try to make a deal and get some policy rather than endless fearmongering and rhetoric. Nope nope we need that endless fearmongering we can't have "fixes" or actual policy Trump needs it to run on!

Hard to describe when exactly this started, but I think a massive shift was the story about Russia and 2016, and then Jan 6th. It's pushed a lot of liberals into conspiratorial hyper-vigilance and an aversion to doing politics and standing by their own values, preferring to blame the omnipresent foreign hand and treating political issues like a hostile invasion.

Odds for a People's Republic of Texas?

Ah bless him, he wishes there would be a civil war. Also Russia doesnt have a problem with immigration, nobody wants to come there. Oh about separation, they always dealt with that by crushing it in blood. Also People's Republic of Texas is a comparison with an Ukraine situation, when they organised a separation of parts of an independent country. It's all a bit messy in any case in his head.

Just read the last 3 or so pages of this thread. It's truly mind bending stuff. I remember first going to America 25 years ago and seeing a country that led the world in nearly everything, now it's dysfunctional basket case in so many ways.

"PrEsIdEeNt BiDeN hAs WeApOnIzEd ThE DOJ tO gO aFtEr RePuBliCaNs."

On a serious note, how long do you think it will take before she gets canned by the DNC? The last thing they need is another liability, especially when they already have to deal with Bob Menendez.
