US Politics

I've just read that the Flint water crisis is still a thing and it's 10 years on. Is that really the case? They still have undrinkable water after all this time? What the actual feck? Does anyone know much about this? And does anyone live there/near there from these forums?

It's insane that such a big issue that got huge coverage around the world still hasn't been sorted out.

It’s insane, and it’s a shame on all of us.

I see it at work too. Some of these white men (note I am one of those btw in case someone thinks I'm being racist or something) - have truly convinced themselves they get the short stick of society. Ironically - a lot of them are some of the highest earners or those with the easiest jobs in the organization. I'm all for equity etc but people should recognize when they re hypocrites and opportunists. Unfortunately because someone convinced them they are victims somehow, all logic goes out the window. This is why populism can be so dangerous - it is perceived to give more power to the people but it's not the ones that have legitimate arguments that will ever see some genuine benefit from it. No, because that would be "socialism". I can't even sometimes...

So, CR passed the house, with a lot more votes from dems than republicans, and as expected, freedom caucus and co are mad at Mike Johnson.

Guess his days are numbered, don't see any point for dems to save him.

Rinse… repeat!

Let the Dan Crenshaw v United Airlines saga commence…..

"...commits assault against my dog"

Couple of comments:
Why does he have to go after the CEO's personal life to start the video? Very low.

On another note: how the hell did he get access to the airport's security footage so quickly. He mentions getting it from airport security through a FOIA but that can't possibly be the whole story. Try filing a FOIA for security cam footage yourself and see how long that takes. IF you even get it because there are some (valid) reasons to withhold it from people.

Also: why does he get the benefit of speaking with a freaking VP of the airline?

I do have to say the United VP should have known better than to lose control of his emotions. Especially when dealing with someone like that. Crenshaw talking about the guy sensitivity though when he s talking about worrying about his "personal safety" when the guy is literally just telling him he's gonna end it (the conversation) is so hypocritical. Precious Crenshaw.

As far as the legislation threat: protecting consumer rights is obviously not a bad thing, but when you clearly make do this out of spite it already feels like its more geared to score political points than making meaningful change. Not to mention he can't make legislation that only targets United so good luck with putting anything in play that binds the hands of all the other airlines operating in the United States as well.

United Airlines: f**** your feelings!

Except in this case, Crenshaw is planning on introducing legislation to deal with this sort of thing. Most Republicans don't care about consumer rights unless they affect or inconvenience them directly.

Indeed. Added on to my post as well. I'd be very curious to see anything he could propose that would still be meaningful after the aviation industry is able to comment on the proposed rulemaking. This has "don't you know who I am?!" pettyness written all over it.

Sounds like Crenshaw used his position and public profile in all of this UA stuff, a solid abuse of power example. As a former military officer and combat veteran, he should know that abuse of power and position is unethical and lacking integrity.

Pretty sure that activating politician.exe overwrote all pre-existing instructions.

Its a tough one. On one hand he can't escape his public persona as a Congressman, so the moment the UA people find out, they are going to treat him differently. He is using his status as a Congressman to push legislation, which may end up being something that benefits others.

He referred to Haley as “a flip flop RINO.” He said she “speaks to one side then to the other and thinks we are not paying attention.” Republicans were “just as crappy” as Democrats, and Trump, he said, “is really the new 3rd party.”

“Our system needs to be broken,” Johnson had concluded, “and he is the man to do it.”

There is a reason fascism is know by it's use of and fostering "fraternal violence". Fascism is not about getting out the swastika flag and growing a small moustache. It's foundations lay in the right wing detaching themselves from believing they are part of the broader society. When they do that they then focus of issues which can inspire the desire for violence in their groups. They begin to find a community, and thus reinforce their "in group" beliefs that their ideology and culture is superior, and the only way to achieve that back into broader society is to create the ideological enemy which is justified to use real violence against.

Why do we think these new fascists still refer to everyone and anything as Marxism, communists etc when it seems so out of line with what the neoliberals are today? Their thought leaders, whilst dying off, come from the post WW2 and cold war era. That's their "academic" footing. The "newer" right wing fascism still has these people as thought leaders because they haven't, as of right now, been able to formulate a full new set of beliefs which can justify the violence. Hence the cultural Marxists will do for now.

If it wasn't so close to actually playing out in reality. It actually makes for a fascinating academic insight into how the right wing is lost looking for their new reasons for violence, so they've began to modify to old ideas to the present. Why do we think the hardest of hardcore MAGA see Trump as a "post Republican" and "post democrat" politician? Because it's a new community based on the desire for "justified" political and ideological violence against everyone that is not MAGA. Fascism is not Mussolini or Hitler. It's much more than its spokespersons.

If Biden's Israel position is hurting him, how can the same position help Fetterman?

Since this is just one poll, i doubt Fetterman has increased his popularity by all that much.

Fetterman has also moved hard right on the border and other issues. His numbers should be high with Republicans - see all the replies to his tweets, including praise from Donald Trump Jr.

And Biden gets it from 3 sides - the left for arms supplies, he riGht for not nuking the whole region, and the center for the perception of chaos and instability.

Thoughts?
If Biden went around for years suggesting fraud in the race and that Terry was actually the governor there would be a point in the "outrage". It is not "monstrously stupid", ridiculous. Media bangs on about his age his unlikability. He cracks a rather tame joke and there need to be think pieces about how the Dems suddenly election deny too?
