US Politics

Meaningful? Roe? Tough i dont know if i would campaign on that

At least this guy shows some guts and seems interested in real politics, even if you disagree with him
It is telling that he isn’t mentioning getting a clean CR passed to fund the government til early next year as Roy is an ideological nihilist wacko. His purity doesn’t allow for anything worthwhile for the voters & is only beholden to the base freaks in his district. His policies are hardly ‘real.’

Its all performative BS, he loves to grand stand, i'd be surprised if he has introduced any bill that got through to help Americans in some way.

32% of respondents in the two-day opinion poll, which closed on Tuesday, said "the U.S. should support Israel" when asked what role the United States should take in the fighting. That was down from 41% who said the U.S. should back Israel in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted Oct. 12-13.

The share saying "the U.S. should be a neutral mediator" rose to 39% in the new poll from 27% a month earlier. Four percent of respondents in the poll said the U.S. should support Palestinians and 15% said the U.S. shouldn't be involved at all, both similar readings to a month ago.

In a potentially worrisome sign for Israel, just 31% of poll respondents said they supported sending Israel weapons, while 43% opposed the idea. The rest said they were unsure. Support for sending Israel weapons was strongest among Republicans, while roughly half of Democrats were opposed.

By comparison, 41% of people answering the poll said they backed sending weapons to Ukraine in its fight against a nearly 21-month-old Russian invasion, compared to 32% who were opposed and the rest unsure. When it came to Ukraine, support for sending weapons was stronger among Democrats.

Congressional Fight Club is brought to you by Stephen Colbert. This has to be one of his most hilarious monologues.

I see someone who is exasperated in not passing any part of their uber-right wing agenda, someone who doesn't want to face any of their constituency with nothing to show for it - no tax breaks for those who don't need it, no Hunter indictment(s), no substantial owning of the libs, no anti-woke legislation that takes the scalps of those dastardly leftists, no pardoning of the J6 hostages, etc.

No doubt he means what he says, but you have to remember there's never a moment that elected House of Representatives officials aren't campaigning due to the term being so short. This is performative diarrhea for his base.

This guy is one of the MAGA wackadoos, he's on par with MTG, Gaetz and Jordan

Thing is, what we view as self-own, the conservatives views as the opposite, they think they absolutely nailed it.

MTG and co only gets more popular with their base by making fools of themselves, they are just failing upwards.

Being wrong about everything and proud of it is seen as a virtue in those circles.

I did like her repeating words when Wray told her that the FBI was not under the DHS umbrella. It was impressive, in a way, her ability to take advantage of the moral fainting couch with her last statement about terrorism.

Good post by @oneniltothearsenal over in the 2024 thread...

Everyone,

Chip Roy went on his rant because the GOP leadership didn't push shutting the government down! He is no hero, no moderate Republican, and no one the Dems can work with. His rant is because he wanted GOP leadership to threaten shutting down the government over the holidays to force more concessions from the House Dems! Don't look at that 30 second Twitter clip out of context.

"Thirteen Texas Republicans voted against their party’s bill Tuesday to keep the government funded through the year, though the bill was able to garner support from Democrats and pass in the U.S. House.

The measure, known as a continuing resolution, would keep the government funded at current spending levels until early next year as Congress works on appropriations legislation to finance the government for the whole fiscal year. House Speaker Mike Johnson presented the legislation over the weekend.

U.S. Reps. John Carter, Michael Cloud, Pat Fallon, Tony Gonzales, Lance Gooden, Wesley Hunt, Morgan Luttrell, Nathaniel Moran, Chip Roy, Keith Self, Beth Van Duyne, Randy Weber and Roger Williams voted against the bill — just over half the state’s GOP delegation.

The bill passed 336-95, with 93 Republicans and two Democrats voting against it. All Texas Democrats supported the bill.

Several deeply conservative members felt Republican leadership did not use the shutdown deadline to eke out stronger policy priorities."

The reason democracies are better than dictatorships is that the general feeling that freedoms and rights exist, mean that actions like this will always be minimised, "put into context", with responsibility diffused among seemingly unrelated decision-makers, while in a dictatorship the blunt hand of the state is obvious and is the only visible target of any protest.

Can't wait to see who votes what...

What's the play? They are confident of a special election keeping that seat or think it wont matter in the grand scheme of things so went for dmg control to cut the stench in case he drags down other NY R incumbents? If he introduces a resolution and it gets voted down won't it be just be more ammunition for Ds to run on?

What about Osama Bin Laden trending within Left wing youngsters on TikTok ‍♂
It's only been posted on the WaPo website for 21 years, but these angsty young 'uns feel like they've only recently unearthed the Ark of the Covenant.

I’ll put this here as this cnut will defo be running for a HoR seat in less than five years…
