US Politics

Wouldn't that mean the current winner of the election can have support for his policies, like in a normal democracy?

I suppose, but then the Supreme Court stops being a Supreme Court and instead is just a political tool for whichever party holds office.

Not sure what the solution is, but don’t see continued expansion being one.

I think what you're afraid of already exists. It's not a long term solution, but having a supreme court that is extremely ideological just makes a mockery of the concept of democracy, because regardless of how people vote and congress votes, those judges can strike it down.

Such a strange mix of racism/fascism and points that are quite progressive.

That's just fascism. The points that seem progressive at first glance are also not always actually progressive. Take #16, guaranteed rights for employees sounds great, but what they're actually proposing is the kind of state-run faux labour rights that existed in Mussolini's Italy. They've named #12 "criminalize war profiteering", but buried the lede a bit by adding full national conscription. #5, support for basic human rights, is just a fancy way of saying there will be no consequences for being racist, misogynistic, transphobic, etc.

In #6 they say they support property rights... for employed family men. That one also legalizes segregation, as does #25 "an end to racial conflict". #14 is only there because they're Nazis, and thus antisemitic above all. Nationalized health care at 19 sounds great, but the "physical fitness" they stress in it was also very much a thing in fascist countries (fit young men to send off to war, fit young women to make more future soldiers, also the whole discipline aspect). 21, establish a department of culture, is just Hitler's Gleichschaltung as far as culture goes. 24 sounds nice, but we all know who would actually benefit.

I could go on. Basically there's nothing here I wouldn't expect to see in an outwardly fascist policy plan.

This is fascism, plain and simple.

What is this party?

It was weird cause there were some interesting things there (breaking up big monopolies, health care etc) mixed in a bunch of racist, misogynistic, white-nationalist, segregation and anti-semitism stuff.

Facism always comes with some "interesting things".

Other fascists came with motorways, vegetarianism, protecting animals against cruelty (while being the devil towards other humans).

Not exactly a new phenomena.

Fascism exploits the grievances raised/highlighted by progressive/socialist thought and then once they are in the door, that's when the ideology is embedded. Fascism doesn't just promote itself to aristocracy/wealthy middle class. For it to truly gain a footing, it has to appeal across the entire spectrum.

This is amazing

With a few strokes of his uniquely powerful veto pen, the Democratic governor had remade the narrowly drawn biennial budget passed by Republican legislators to boost education funding for the next four centuries. Yes, really: Instead of lifting state-imposed limits on raising school revenues through 2024–25, Evers artfully reworked the numbers—crossing out the initial “20” and the hyphen—to extend the plan until 2425.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: deep breath :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

It's time for Floridians to suffer the consequences of voting for this moron, all other states need to do the same and start banning things FL related until they see the error of their ways!

Think it was a CNN reporter did an on-site report after the Fort Myers hurricane pointing out the high costs that most cannot afford and how insurance firms refuse to cover roofs older than ten years aged. He said most of the homes in the area he was reporting were total losses, the owners did not have insurance due to the costs and rules.

Was going to say, Florida's insurance is so high for a very good reason: a good cat 3 much less 5 will wipe out entire towns, and more and more are making landfall. Pretty silly to compare their rates to national average imo.

I'm at the Atlanta airport on my way to Tampa from Frankfurt. So, I'm sitting in the Sky Club and just five minutes ago MTG walks in. I really wanted to tell her to feck off but don't want to get kicked out. It's legit her. Another traveler next to me went to confirm. Holy feck.

Tell her you saw Hunter doing lines in the men’s bathroom, then lock her in when she runs to check it out.
