US Politics

McCarthy, even if he wins in later rounds, would likely be the weakest speaker of all time.

Getting close to the rumored 20 votes against Kevin, what a disaster for him.

Many of these people socialize with one another behind the scenes (despite appearing to be public political enemies).
Oh, I know (but far less than the Tip O’Neill days). She does look a bit fired up though.

You think Matt Gaetz and AOC socialize?

I know a lot of Rs and Dems socialize at events behind the scenes and are far more civil with one another than their public personas would suggest. I don't think AOC and Gaetz would even bother talking if they didn't know each other quite well when the cameras aren't around.

I think that's quite a leap to make. As long as we have no idea what the conversation was about or how it came to be... we have no idea what it was about or how it came to be. This is just a very short clip of a short (maybe? We can't see the beginning) conversation.

By the way, NRK (Norwegian state broadcaster) is livestreaming the election of speaker of the House in the US, I'm pretty sure that's a first. I think there have been a lot of new "Norwegian state broadcaster streaming X event in American politics" in the last few years.

This is the part where Brutus praises Caeser at the opening of the Roman Senate on March 15th.

They were obviously arguing about something. Just like left and right wing media personalities, many of them know each other in private, often well enough to party and argue with one another.

Sure, they definitely know each other. They work together, after all. I just doubt they're friends or anything, or that their public differences are in some way "for the camera". I'm not saying that's what you suggested, but a lot of people do seem to think all politicians are secretly friends and have no real differences.

So these Republicans switching up their votes and endorsing Jim Jordan while Jordan continues to endorse McCarthy.

Is this orchestrated in a way that probably makes complete sense when taken in tandem with whatever discussions are taking place between ballots, or are they just idiots beyond belief?

I have a very low opinion of them but it has to be the former right?

Nope just idiots, who hate McCarthy and want him to step aside.

What would happen in the 3rd round if those pro-Jordan Rs choose to abstain and then Jeffries gets more votes than McCarthy albeit without a majority?

Is McCarthy still on the floor or did he finally retire to an anteroom to save himself the embarrassment?

But they got the magnetometers out of the Capitol lobby already, their priorities are definitely in order.

Supposedly this.

What Matt Gaetz and AOC Talked About During Kevin McCarthy’s Speaker Vote
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Matt Gaetz wanted to know if Democrats would bail out the would-be Republican speaker. Not a chance, she told him.
