US Politics

2 and a half weeks and we are out of this crazy land. North Carolina may be in the south but motherfeckers up here are a different kind of crazy.

Funny, if I get the go ahead to work from home, NC may be one of our options. Our #1 option is to live on a boat (Chesapeake Bay in the Summer and the coast from Charleston to Savannah/Brunswick GA in the Winter). Would love to change my residence to GA/SC so I could vote (feel my liberal vote is needed in GA more than it is in Maryland) but it's hard to get residency when you are on a boat.

Well that certainly sounds like a different sort of lifestyle. Popping into Charleston for meals would be great as the food scene there is wonderful.

Food scene in the Durham / Chapel Hill area is quite strong. Think Birmingham East (or at least it was middle of the last decade).

Oh yeah, and my foody sister has been there for 5 years scoping out all the best places. She also has the superpower of making friends with anyone she meets so at this point she is on a first name basis with a bunch of chefs in the area.

Is this the first time you've seen paintings by the legendary Jon McNaughton? He's... special. This barely even scratches the surface:

Didn’t realize it was the same cat. Someone started a thread on this a while back, no?

I'm not entirely sure what all those people have in common, but there's the Pope, Mother Theresa, Jean d'Arc, some Greek philosophers, Stalin and Napoleon hanging out together, Marx, some random orthodox Jew, some Arab and/or Jewish-looking fellow picking up pieces of silver (?), Mao, Osama bin Laden, Hitler hanging out with Henry VIII, Christopher Columbus, Darwin, Castro, possibly ******* Tubman, a random assortment of other monarchs, and Idi Amin hiding at the back.

He's not one for subtlety, so usually it's really easy to tell who the good guys and the bad guys are. I'm not sure if he's gone more nuanced here and mixed them together, or if he's pretty sure these are all bad guys.

Idi Amin

I see Wilfred Brimley in the piece depicting Trump and past presidents in military gear.

The piece with the person attending to the lone plant, what is Trump standing on a snake's head symbolizing?

Who's the dude on Jesus's shoulder? Looks like a televangilist being the hero of the hour while simultanously offering cancer cure prayers for cold hard cash.

I think the people in the foreground crying are meant to be Jesus followers and the people in the back baying for his blood

So you know how there is the unofficial "Waffle House Index" to determine how bad a disaster is? I have a new one for the GOP and all you need to do is look at what's trending on Twitter:

Level 1: Normal State - "Inflation, Gas Prices, etc."
Level 2: Some shits about to drop: "HUNTER BIDEN"
Level 3: Election Season: "MIGRANT CARAVAN"
Level 4: Insurrection Investigation: "ALL OF IT, TALK ABOUT ALL OF IT!!!"
