Yeah, it didn't sound good at all. They're definitely keeping the Mississippi law and that's going to lead to more laws pushing it further. The South wants its return to the 1890s.

If the states end up having the right to set abortion laws, could states make it illegal to Cross state lines for an abortion?

I don't think they can actually do that but I wouldn't be surprised if they try something like the fugitive slave law.

That is the best they could come up with? Just say you want to own the Democrats and damage their chances in the midterms.

May hope spring eternal.

Seems to me, with my admittedly small understanding, that this is essentially leading to the assertion of an individual state's right to set its own abortion policy. A victory here will likely encourage other red legislatures to enact similar, or more severe policies even if each is met with a challenge that ultimately wends its merry way to the Supreme Court.

I think that's spot on.

the democrats could simply pass a law legalizing abortion

Doing that would be a "compromise" since that law only bans it after 15 weeks. By all accounts they want to overturn Roe.

How would that work with state passing counter laws against federal one? Won't it just go back to courts with the question of state rights vs federal ones? Essentially if Roe is overturned then Dems need to pass a constitutional amendment to enshrine rights over one's body as a literal right.

He used some religious verbiage referring to babies as kingdoms of heaven housed in earthen vessels while sitting on the House floor giving a speech.

So when they’re born they stop being kingdoms of heaven and become earthen vessels themselves? Or is it when they become adults?

it's as jordan peterson and ted cruz said, twitter leftist mob cancel culture will be the end of free speech :(

They should love V for vendetta, an anti-state guy trying to bring the whole thing down, isn't that what they fantasize about?

No, that is their fantasy when a democrat/liberal/progressive runs the state. When THEY run the state....well just see this thread.

Do people in America not see that this is actual fascism? All the Nazi Germany comments that are made about this and that, this actually happened there.

Here's a sample of how far-right Americans think...

For reasons I'm not willing to explain, after years of reporting on protests in and around the DC Baltimore area and throughout the world, I gave up on 'fighting the good fight' by providing a clear picture of protesters of all perspectives.

Anyhow, I'm living far into the mountains in Upstate NY and had a neighbor by my house, yesterday for a few beers. He's an admitted member of a far-right militia group.
The conversation went something like this:

Him: It's Antifa that are the real threat

Me: You do know that Antifa means, anti fascist, right?

Him: Yeah, I know

Me: Ya know we have a greater threat from black bears, wolves and fishers up hear than Antifa?

Him: Yeah but you never know with these basement dwellers

Me: I've reported on Antifa in depth and most of them are educated people with professions such as professors in Economics at Columbia Uni. and the like.

Him: Well that's probably how they fund themselves

My head was about to explode with the scale of nonsense. I tried to explain how Steve Bannon has exploited the far right with insanely inaccurate propaganda. He claimed he had no idea as to who Bannon was... Honestly, I don't know what to do with this sorta thinking.

All I know is, America is likely minutes away from civil war over nonsense. But hey, that's how lot's of national violent conflicts kick off.

As someone that was a strong advocate of free speech and fought against censorship, in fact my twitter account with 7,000+ followers was banned last October 2020, I understand why censorship is necessary nowadays. Most of us in America all get it after Jan 6th - but the voices of my group can no longer promote the message of non-violence within the protest arena. It's a mess and getting worse because of poor decisions on all sides in DC
