US Politics

It seems to me that repubs long ago figured out that they can get into power and run up the deficit by spending big on private pork projects and cutting taxes, then they get voted out which is fine. They spend that period hounding the dems over their inability to cut the deficit meanwhile dems can't afford to implement their big programs because the deficit, so they get voted out. Then repubs get back into power and continue the cycle.

It's actually very clever and an excellent long-term strategy. Dems will never do anything drastic to cut the deficit so there's no risk to repubs to be out of direct power for a few years.

And the Democrats always take them at their word. Charlie brown, lucy, etc.
That's why there needs to be a purge of leadership in the Democratic party. Schumer, Pelosi, Hoyer and Perez may well be cast aside if the Dems do well in November. I hope so, we need a bit of Alan Grayson without the ego fighting for the majority.
I also wanted to ask you. If Biden gets the nomination along with a Bernie endorsement would you find that adequate in this moment of time?

No I wont vote for Biden or Booker. I would vote Gillenbrand, Warren, Bernie. I'd have to think about Harris if it came to that.

I agree with that except for Gillibrand. I have a different view on 2020. I think the next Democratic president will have a massive clean up at the end of this current shitshow. Can you see yourself sucking it up for 4 years so as to keep trump a one term president?

Anyone who wants the US to stay in the Paris climate accord will need to vote Dem (even if its an imperfect one) since Trump's withdrawal can only take effect in November of 2020, which means his replacement could undo it before it takes effect.

Senate Truce Collapses as G.O.P. Rush to Confirm More Judges Begins Anew

WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats struck a deal last week with Republicans that saw the quick confirmation of 15 more conservative judges in exchange for a rapid flight to the campaign trail. Liberal activists were infuriated, but after the brutally divisive fight to confirm Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, the agreement held out a promise of peace.

“I would like to have the future mending things,” declared the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa.

On Wednesday, at Mr. Grassley’s instruction, the armistice collapsed.

Republicans on the Judiciary Committee convened yet another hearing to consider still more conservative federal court nominees — while the Senate was technically in recess. Incensed Democrats boycotted the proceedings, but their empty chairs did not prevent candidates for the bench, such as Allison Rushing, 36, a social conservative nominated by President Trump to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, from taking a crucial step toward confirmation.

The 12th-dimensional chess strategy of giving Republicans what they want is going great, and Republicans will soon have more of what they want.

Seriously everyone in the Democratic party should resign out of shame and quit politics. Everyone.
In their retirement they can cosplay West Wing-style debating and own the GOP by their own logic, in the real world some opposition with actual political sense is needed. A 18-year old whose only exposure to politics is Malcolm Tucker would be a good start.

Bunch of fecking idiots. Pitiful... *spits

That's the problem .The likes of Pelosi and Schumer trusts them again and again.

Why don't the Democrats have more fecking balls? Might get some of the hard nuts to vote for them. Just a bunch of *****.

Dems on twitter going apeshit about McConnell's comments. How long before they forget?

Harris is offering as much as $3,000 a year for a single person or $6,000 a year for a married couple, on top of existing tax and transfer programs, disbursed either as a lump-sum tax refund or as a monthly payment. Working families making less than $100,000 a year would qualify, including those making close to nothing. As many as 80 million Americans would benefit, Harris’s office has estimated, with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities calculating that the proposal would lift 9 million people out of poverty, including nearly 3 million kids.

How are the Democrats this consistently stupid? How do they get outmanoeuvred so easily? It genuinely boggles the mind, they're idiots.

Christ, we've been in Afghanistan for 17 years. That really does boggle the mind. Does anybody even know what we are fighting for anymore?

I can confirm that current 17 year old high schoolers generally have no clue what exactly the war on terror is about.

No matter how many times I watch Trump supporter videos I’m always amazed people like this exist not far from where I live

Were they always this ignorant/parochial or they just got left behind since the 90s and are now a fantasy world with an economic-porn provided by the entertainer that is Trump? My family's bi-coastal so its not often you have these conversations.

Some voted for Trump for strictly economic reasons. Protectionist policies are popular with a lot of people .

Was to be expected, wasn't it?

But while I think the Democrats should be much more combative in a situation like that, a fundamental problem may be that their politics ultimately depend on a system of minimal compromise and bipartisanship. So perhaps, when faced with a GOP that has largely abandoned these principles, it may just be lose/lose for them long-term.
