US Open

Im actually hoping Federer gets through here, playing like this he could suffer one of the biggest and most humiliating defeats ever to Nadal tomorrow night, which could well finish him as a major slam contender, another body blow given by Nadal in a major final really could damage him long term.

That's just cruel

Rolland Garros 2008.

6-1 6-3 6-0 ;)

I honestly believe if Fed can beat Nadal once again in a Slam final, he'll reach his 20 target and can retire happily

Yes but im not saying this off the back of a bad couple of sets here, ive said this repeatedly for years, i dont rank him as the best ever for various reasons that have previously been discussed, just my view, and i find the modern day hype even more frustrating, we had the imbecilic sky commentators talking about Federer playing the best hes ever played this week at the start of this match! its laughable seeing as any respectable tennis fan knows this man is a pale imitation of what he once was and has been for the last 2 years.

You see it as hyping. A lot of people think he is the best. It's a controversial topic, hours of discussion won't solve it because it's based on opinion rather than fact.

On the second, well, there are tons of bad experts out there. For me he hasn't been at his best for AGES. The 'great' wimbledon final last year which he won last year against Roddick, there's just no way Federer at his best would have had to work that hard against Roddick to win. And rely so much of bottle and luck.

I hate it when Federer relies on grit and 'hanging in'. It's not the best sight.

Agreed. I'm not sure Fed would have won either of his 2 slams last year if Nadal was fully fit. The fact that he almost lost against a one dimensional player as Roddick says a lot.

While I agree that he's among the greatest ever, I personally also won't ever call him the greatest ever. Not anyone in this current era. The competition is just far too weak to call any of Nadal or Federer the greatest ever.

And now that Fed is beginning to hold serve I can't see Nole winnin anymore. It's surely just a matter of time before he gets broken to love again?

What if Maradona played in an era where defenders weren't as good as other generations?

I'm not saying the field is poor, just wondering if that alone would make him worse than other greats. Because that doesn't make sense to me.

We can never really properly compare players from different eras but this era just feels weaker to the other ones. How can we say Federer is better than Sampras just cause he has 2 more slams? A Sampras had far more competition than Fed now but yet Fed might be called the greatest ever. He's among the best but for me atleast he'll never really be the best tennis player of all time.

Fed holds for 4-3. He's yet sturggling a bit but he's steadied the shit a bit. Important game coming up. Nole needs to hold if he has to have any chance in this match.

Just came across some stats in Slams:

After Nadal won the first set, his win/loss record: 107/1

After he wins the first TWO sets, he is 90/0

2nd one is not that big an achievment but the 1st one is stunning.

So basically he needs to win the first set tomorrow :D

Wonder who that one person was who beat him?

Djokovic's biggest flaw is his mental toughness. He's lost the set, but the way he's acted the past few games is as if he's lost the match already. Prick always bottles it...

The Choker we know and love is back

5-6 and 3 set points down on his serve. It's so predictable. He almost ALWAYS loses sets 7-5 to Fed. Broken to love AGAIN. 7-5 to Fed.

He's shocking.

Djokovic has just about as much mental strength as the United team in the last 2 away games.

Gets the break - come on Djokovic!!!! (he'll still choke)

Djoko breaks with a great passing shot.

Honestly, how on earth is Federer 2 sets to 1 up ?!

Serb has been the better player in this match. Missed some big points and lost his nerve at crucial points to be behind right now.

Nadal needs to hit everything at Fed's backhand in the final. He puts everything into the net. All 4 points dumped into the net in that game.

Double break for Djoko. Fed's lost the plot...again.

Novak should be in his hotel by now preparing for the final. He's been far better. The quality of tennis in this match has been average though. Just too many errors.

Nadal and Youzny played better tennis than this.

How can Fed possibly hit so many shots into the net in 1 set, let alone one match

Bit of luck there for Novak, he's played the better tennis but can he hold his nerve in the 5th?

Federer is rubbish will be easypeasy for nadal, if he gets through

So hows the final set going to go? Like the 2nd and 4th or will Djoko bottle it like in the 1st and 3rd?

Serving 1st might tip in Fed's balance a bit. Unless Nole breaks early because there is no way he will be able to handle the pressure once it goes to 4-4 or 5-5

Djoko had lots of chances to break there. He really was in command of the game. He's going to look back at these chances once he loses 7-5 :p

Really terrible tennis for a grand slam semifinal.

Djoko continues to be the better player but just can't break. Sadly for him this is going the way of the 1st nd 3rd sets.

Really terrible tennis for a grand slam semifinal.

From the World Num 2 and 3 as well. It's as poor as the tennis produced by the women Num 2 and 3 last night

And there's no wind or heat to blame it on today.

Terrific game that, Fed has been very sloppy today, but that could be the match-deciding game, can Djokovic hold serve?

I don't understand this crowd. Sure they want a Fed Rafa final but can't they for once support the under dog against Federer?

Anyway poor stuff from Djoko there. He really really should have broken. He's just wasting all the good chances he has. Won't be surprised to see Fed break Nole pretty soon.

Can't believe how calm Federer remains despite playing so badly.
