US Men's National Team Discussion

This friendly had completely passed me by.

It's almost 2am here in the UK so I really shouldn't still be awake and checking Red Cafe! But I've been binge watching Whose Line and Norm Macdonald for ages and just popped in for one last check.

There's a few on the bench I don't know much about (I've seen the comments about Gomez and Cowell), but the only ones in the first team are Lennon and Kessler. I've checked their basic stats, but are they any good?

Lennon was at Liverpool I think as a youngster. I don’t think he ever made a first team appearance. Kessler is an upper level MLS center back.

the other names on the bench to watch are Che (going to or at least wanted by Bayern) and Clark (going to RB Leipzig in January)

Ugh. I would say Roldon could go suck a dick but he’s probably bite it off instead. What a waste of a roster slot, even in a January camp.

Thanks. :)

I'll make a note to watch out for the likes of Che and Clark - as well as Gomez and Cowell, etc.

This is bad. Morris (with Zimmerman and Turner) is the only guy who has shown he belong in the January qualifiers. The rest have been garbage.

I can live with Zardes. But Yuell? He has proven beyond any doubt he is not National team level, so why the feck are you wasting minutes or even a spot on him? Why not take a chance in someone else.

This motherfecker is managing to win this game. That is the only explanation for his subs.

What is the point of this camp?

obviously not to try out new players. This Roldon/Acosta/Yuell midfield is the worst midfield the US has fielded in 50 years.

GB is managing this game to win so he can set a wins record. That is why he is the wrong coach for any team with ambition.

The best part of this game is learning that #9 for Bosnia has a bar code tattoo on his neck.

I have never in my life been less excited by a 90 minute winner. Happy for Bassett and JoGo but feck Berhalter.

The only thing good about that was two young players making it happen. The build up was terrible, fire drill

If we are not trying to get a squad together to be ready to play against Canada Jan 30th, we are going to get steam rolled. I have no idea what the purpose of this friendly was?

Allegedly to get a look at new players. But uhm… Roldon/Acosta/Yuell played in MF. All have proven they are not at the proper level. I am completely serious when I say that the whole point of this friendly was to get Berhalter the wins record and that is exactly how he coached the game.

Was going to make a post on this, so thanks for doing it. A couple of thoughts:

1. GB's vendetta against Brooks is real. Actually, his vendetta against the players who played the first half against Honduras is real. He is using them as a scapegoat for his insane formation change (see also Bello, Geoge and Sands, James).
2. If GB ever claims a player is being left out because they are not playing for their club we should all get to beat him over the head with a foam bat. McKenzie and the GB MLS Club(tm) are all getting no club time right now.
3. Joe Scally got COVID at the absolute worst time as it gave GB an excuse to not call him in.
4. One left back and 4 RB's? Idiot.
5. Glad to see Morris back and Weah is a welcome surprise.
6. Really worried about the lack of depth in general. GB could have called in a few more players. Why leave empty slots???

tldr; GB is an idiot and we desperately need to upgrade at coach to make any progress.

Leaving empty slots with players available is just inept management. Even more so in a covid environment.

There is a pregame show at 6pm est on ESPN+ and then coverage starts at 6:30 on ESPN2. Cannot lie, even with my distaste for GB, kinda giddy about this game and totally stoked for the game against our Northern neighbors soon.

Game has already started!!

McKennie is looking fantastic.

I love all the push forward but it has been sloppy getting the ball through the ES midfield
