US Men's National Team Discussion

NBC commentator “a milestone moment for this marquee generation of US players”

Everyone else “A hilarious low quality farce decided by horrendous refereeing”

Hats off though, that was hugely entertaining in a sort of WWE way.

Objectively, it is a great generation of players but they are being put in a bad position by the manager. How Ream played the entire match escapes my imagination (now that I think on it, how did he start for a team in the PL this year has to be the bigger question).

In fairness, it's on CBS. ;)

Also, it's CONCACAF. The only surprising thing about the insane refereeing was that the US got a big call.
Which was then almost immediately rectified by another bad call. Neither were pens.

For a relegated team and he only started like 5 games all year.

Good to hear only 5 games, can't blame an American entirely for their relegation then  . I remember seeing him in some match against us maybe though?

The greatest tragedy from this match is that it will keep Berhalter in a job for now.

Yep. I think the coach said he was going to player guys who would be on the team next year and their normal starters were loanees

Mexico fans....

Why do US venues allow away supporters to do as they please?

The US desperately needs a progressive, brave coach. The MF of this team should be a strength, but GB has neutered it out of fear. A MF 3 of McKennie, Adams, and Mussah is the future. All of them are tireless players who fit nicely into slots. Adams shields the backline, Mussah links the Attack and carries the ball, and McKEnnie gets into the box. Instead it was a mess of incompetence with Weston running around putting out AcostaFires.

Totally fair, I was just more commenting on the surreal circumstances of the game.

The coach is indeed tragic.

The most important thing that came out of the match was the number of projectiles the young US players took today. The experience will serve them well in CONCACAF WC qualifying.

The replay will never have the craziness that was this match live.

Just caught up on the highlights. Wow. What an insane game.

After a night of reflection I still think that was the most insane game of.... something I have ever witnessed. I am not sure if that was football, but it sure was something.

That was in the top 3 games I’ve ever watched. Unbelievable entertainment. It’s the first time I actually felt tired keeping up with a game.

I love the replies

Highlight of the night was the insanely aggressive penalty award by the Ref for the first pen. Need a gif of that shit.

The ref is this guy in the football world.

Normally I always prefer watching NT games in a bar with a bunch of US fans, but this is one that I don't think would have benefitted from that. It was such an insane spectacle I am glad I was sat in the dark trying not to wake up my wife. I was able to appreciate it in all its weird, inane, stupid glory.

Game sums up why I hate VAR

here in the periphery its been awfully applied, people only pay attention to how its been in top Europe competitions

The use for the offside goal was the only good use. Neither penalty was a penalty and he got the calls correct the first time.

What a wild game. Berhalter is so clearly out of his depth and clearly had not gotten his players into the right mindset (that giveaway for the first Mexico goal was the right combination of being rattled and not being locked in). That being said, it was a good experience for the young guys and we have to cross our fingers and hope that either GB pulls his finger out or USSF finds a progressive coach who can get the most out of his best players (the fact that Dest and Pulisic were so absent from this game is criminal). CONCACAF WCQ should be quite the ride.

I don't even care if they were penalties or not, if you take 10 minutes to analyze them, VAR should shut up and never intervene. let the game flow

yesterday game had zero flow to it. awful! i pity the fans of the concacaf region, medieval football

Agreed. I have listened to a few recap podcasts this morning and I keep hearing people trash Dest saying that GB used this formation to unlock Dest by putting him in a familiar position. Such apologetic BS. You don't trash your system to cater to one player and then put him in an unfamiliar position! I have been giving GB slack up till now, but last night made it clear he is out of his depth.
