United v Chelsea

Working nights so didn`t see the game, but after reading your reports seems like we played well.

O`Shea and Mickey singled out for praise.

But now seeing how well we came back in the 2nd half and I think we should have won it.
Overall im a bit disappointed since I always want us to win.
are you satisfied ?

Satisfied you didn't pick up the three points.Looked like again a MU late win for a while.

Much-Improved performance;

Mickey still showed a few elementary defensive frailties however... Don't get me wrong, he fully justified his place in the team tonight, showing what we already knew, his attacking skills are excellent. But he needs to work on his positioning at times.

O'Shea, just got better as the game went on. I can remember one mistake, nothing major. To say he was up against an experienced strikeforce like Hasslebaink and Zola, he was fantastic, well-worthy of the man of the match award.

I still expect more from Giggs. His goal was well-taken, but some of his play tonight, especially the relatively easy passes was a little off colour, but the signs were good. Same goes for Beckham. I am not particularly worried about either of these two though.

Phil Neville did worry me a little however, as did some of the defensive errors. We need to stamp these things out, things like commiting to challenges, missing then conceding a foul, or worse, missing it and ending up caught out of position. I've noticed players out of position many times, is something which needs sorting.

Apart from those niggles, we were a lot better. I feel more confident now. Attacking, we've improved. Ruud was a little below-par, for him anyway, but I expect it was a one-off.

Scholes, Butt and Keane worked well together. Veron looked comfortable in the short-time he had, creative as-ever. It's going to be fascinating to watch this evolve over the season, I expect he'll keep rotating them for now.

I thought Roy Carroll played well again. Apart from the 'mistake' (should the defence have cleared it? There was enough of them...), he was comfortable with most of Chelsea's attempts. I seriously think Fab is gonna have to fight for his place this season, which could bring out his best!

Overall, a confidence-inspiring performance, something like the 'old' United. A few defensive frailties, which need sorting, perhaps the re-introduction of a solid-figure like Rio will help that, especially if he's partnering O'Shea!

I'm actually a lot happier after this match than after the West Brom match even though we picked up all 3 points there. I thought our performance was so much better tonight. It's exactly what we needed before Tuesday's match. (All right, I guess a win would have been slightly better.) :)

Nope we got the whole package. Sky coverage started at 11.30am over here just like in England with Ricahrd Keys et al.

The second half performance was as dominant and controlled as i've seen from us in a while. If we can play like that all season we'll be hard to stop. We were not helped by some crap decisions from the officals. Here my view, see what you think

Carroll - Generally good, made a mistake that led to their second but apart from that did everything he needed to

P.Neville - Looked ok going forward generally ok but nothing special

Mickey - Excellent going forward, caught out a few times when defending

Larry - Calm, assured as always but was helped out a lot by O'Shea

O'Shea - Outstanding, for the most part didn't let Piggybank have a kick

Becks - Reasonably good, his crossing was a bit off but he's getting back to his usual level. Probably would have scored without the help of the deflection

Giggs - Ok, well taken goal (congrats on 100 goals) was very quiet in first half but came more into it as the match wore on

Butt - Very good in first half, kept Petit very quiet. Faded a bit in the 2nd half as the match pushed further upfield. Was mainly the holding player in 2nd half

Keane - Very good. One bad tackle but otherwise his drive kept pushing us forward in the second half. But for an outstanding save would have scored with a very smart snapshot

Scholes - Very quiet in 1st half, brilliant in 2nd, had a blatant penalty turned down. His best game for United since Chelsea last April. Looked more like his oldself.

Ruud - Struggled to get into it. Worked hard but nothing seemed to go his way. Including some ridiculas offsides.

Subs - didn't really have long enough to make an impression

Sorry this post is soo long - What do you think?

2) Demento has finally realised that Evita Veron can't cut it with the big boys and left him on the bench.

Demento?

,surprised you managed to see the TV through your 2 inches thick glasses retard.

Anyways, what did you think of the game? we're pretty shite eh ? The result was dissappointing, only a draw away at SB but look at how we play. It's like sex with a fit woman, fecking excellent. You haven't picked any points from this stadium for how many games?

Not surprised you mentioned Brown though , nothing else to whine about so got to create something anyways eventhough he didn't play. Well we do not pack the defence eejit and therefore we will never play like you and thank god for that.

Overall it's a much improved performance from the last match. Some players still didn't reach top form yet (such as Ruud, Giggs, etc.) but at least we played like a team and we started to look like what Manchester United should be playing. O'Shea outshone Blanc today and I hope we will keep him even if Rio returns.

That's telling fatlad

The mods should put a filter up and running to stop all these nasty words such as "demento" from being posted

just got done watching the replay on FSW Canada. Much improved performance then against WBA but our defense still looks suspect at times. Clearly the better side in the second half and should have won the game. Oshea was a revelation to me as he appeared much larger and stronger then I remember. He seemed to tower over the other players like JIP JAAP used too. If we continue with that type of football we will win on tuesday by at least 3 goals.

Much better display all round, you can see the effect of playing a couple more games. Defensively better, with the signs there of a more solid unit when Rio, and Neville return.
Beckham AND Giggs much better than last week, Keano and Nicky Butt solid.
Scholes excellent 2nd half, as did Ruud.
Roy Carroll must learn from that throw out!
Overall a good result against a good side, but where does this leave Seba? And who plays with Rio?
:D

Our main strength is our midfield... however, Butt, Scholes, Giggs and Becks gave away the ball too many times, causing problems for the defence... most of their better chances came from lapses in our concentration.......the first half was full of mistakes.. we were better in the second.. but its still not good enough... we need to tighten up in all areas.

Have to be sastifised with the point in the context of the match and recent form. Chelsea were excellent the first half and caused us a lot of problems on the break. United gave the ball away far too often and the ball circulation was too slow.
In the second half United showed more urgency in their passing and Keane and Butt dominated the midfield. Certanly an encouraging 2nd half performance, if we can keep that up then no one in the PL can touch us.

O'Shea was maginificent and Veron's days must be numberd after Scholes showed just how much more effective he is for United!

the irony is..we gave the ball away yet not many have had a pop at the players... the defence was over worked at times due to the pressure our midfield put on our back four....

and peeps have a go at veron for giving the ball away... i don't think he's ever gave it way as much as butt, giggs, becks and scholsey did yesterday.

Agreed, its amazing the way ppl can hack at Veron and then someone else does the same thing and its overlooked.
Ppl need to forget about his price tag & nationality and give him a fair go.

unfortunately ppl will still blame Veron no matter what he did :(

Ahmed and Inch... bitter morons of the world unite.

it is a worry - that the midfield tends to give the ball away so cheaply. no wonder the defence then looks to be under strain. we have to work more on our keeping the ball if we are to play the way SAF sees will win the CL. no point that extra midfield man if hes just gonna ship the ball to the oppo, then their work is half done for them. this in my view has been just as costly as defensive errors.

You are joking. Who scored a wonderful equalizer? Who and who combined to create an excellent opening chance only for Giggs to hit the post? Who should have got us a match-winning penalty in the second half? Supporting Veron is one thing, but slagging everyone off just because you want to support Veron is not right.

Had Veron scored a goal such as Beck's and had such competent (not great, just competent) performance as Becks on Friday, Veron supporters would have already gave hime "9" marks. I agree Scholes performance weren't really that great in this match, but I think it's okay since he was not playing in his natural position.

some people on here are really are starting to piss me off. Ive fecking played the fecking game for over 15 fecking years, I know my stuff you fecking moron!
Scholes (although not brilliant) played friday far more effectivly than veron has mostly been. Scholes, doesnt unnecessarily keep holding the play up, send 50 yard passes booming over the side line and tackle like a fecking fairy.
I fecking watched the game alright......

Im comparing my football knowledge to yours. I know that Veron has been shit so far for United. Scholes has more than proven himself at OT. I also know that Scholes's game suits United far more than Veron's does. I also know that Scholes was better than 'average' against Chelsea. But then again, Im not a biased, boring, self-rightious knobend.

A 7 Page post wow! :p

Obviously I havent waded through it all, and I nearly fell asleep reading the 'spat' thats current filling the pages...

But just to post my reaction to the game:

Fookin superb performance boys - well played

After stuttering v WBA and cocking things up in Hungary we really needed to put in a performance like that. It would have been nice to have scored a third, but confidence is king and it WILL have shot up after this game.

Come on the boys, lets continue to put it all together. Get Rio fit, get Forlan scoring. Much much happier today :D

Had Veron misplaced as many passes as Butt, Scholes or Beckham in that game he would have been slaughtered.
Veron misses one pass ppl are on his back, you hear the commentators, the match tracker etc going on about it. Beckham does it and its hardly mentioned. Until he scored his goal last Friday he was playing miserable.
