United States, Mexico and Canada to host 2026 World Cup

Football’s coming home

Shame that Chicago opted-out, what a joke of a city. Nevertheless, it would be great to take a few weeks off and do a WC road trip over the US.

If they were to stay in Canada (lets say Toronto) then that would be their choice, but it wouldn't be any different than staying in one location in the US and not going to Mexico. Flights are cheap, so no one with the financial wherewith-all to plan and buy tickets to a WC should have the need to be financially constrained by having to remain in one location for the entire time.

Id say you will see a massive price hike come the WC, its just not my idea of fun flying all over the place, there is customs checks in traveling between all the countries am I right?

Anyway they will never get a free kick over the wall in Mexico .

Yes there will be but that's merely an extra 10 minutes. Not a big deal for anyone who takes the time and money to follow their team of choice around.

In normal circumstances, like I said time will tell, there will be a massive influx of people daily through the air ports, 10s of thousands more.

Delighted with this news. The fact that there‘ll be a record sized WC will probably allow all 3 hosts to auto qualify.
Didn’t both S Korea and Japan get the same when they hosted?

Stupid decision by the BC government to deny Vancouver the chance to host a few games.

They can simply cross the border into Seattle.

It’s not the same. BC place is in a perfect location, 10 min walk from a village that was built for the winter Olympic athletes in 2010.

Have absolutely no clue why Canada is on the bid. Honestly have no clue why it's a join bid in the first place. Both Mexico and the United States are big enough countries with enough stadiums to do it alone.

At least we'll qualify for a World Cup though haha

Why do some of you have the incessant need to bring up politics?

Why should Canada be left off? They have hosted several FIFA tournaments in the past that have been a huge success and you can make the argument that the football culture in Toronto & Montreal is bigger than any of the cities in the USA because of the diversity that is there. I have been to Toronto during the 2014 world cup and the atmosphere was absolutely buzzing because you can find fans from any nation in that city that are huge football fans.

Loved WC 94 and the final was a top notch emotional ride. More of that in 2026, please.

That's what happens when its distributed among 3 countries. Its hard to then make the case for two cities so close to one another both hosting matches since venues need to be distributed in Mexico and the US as well.

Yeah hopefully the Seattle fans will get right behind it if there are big games at century link.

Just to clarify, since CONCACAF gets 3 places at the world cup, if 3 teams qualify automatically does that mean there would be 6 places now? US, Mexico, Canada plus 3?

Could obviously pay a massive backhander between them. We should just team up with France, Spain and Germany next chance.

All players will have their luggage searched for illegal migrants when coming back from Mexico. Unless there could be a way found to build walls in the air before 2026.

Don't really see why you would host it in 3 countries. Don't think that's ever been done before. It's a massive landmass, travel will be tiresome. But whatever...

Every American city that could potential host it most definitely has a footballing culture. Don't underestimate the culture just because American Outlaws have shit chants.

As for the haughty condemnation of U.S. football culture by some of you lot, I will be interested in how they feel about the historically famous football culture of Russia in a few days, and of course the Qataris in 4 years.

Seems Canada and Mexico are only included for a gimmick, specially Mexico. In reality is only going to be held in the USA and Mexico and Canada are going to only host like 10 random group stage games. So this was strategy by USA just to win the candidature using a country like Mexico with more football tradition and appeal.

I thoroughly enjoyed '94 for a number of reasons: Norway being there, the shiny head of Letchkov eliminating Germany, Hagi's Romania beating Argentina, Brazil finally winning it again, etc. Most of the USA was indifferent to the tournament back then, but I think this one will be something else. From what I've seen in the past few years, quite a few MLS stadiums have a better atmosphere than most English matches, OT included (very sad, but that's the way things have evolved over here).

To be honest, my issue is three large countries hosting it seems pointless and adds to logistical complexities. Imagine a WC hosted by France, Germany and Italy. Just seems a bit daft personally.

If it was just Canada hosting it who have never hosted it before, I don't think anyone would be bothered, despite them being a shit team.

Quatar hosting the WC received a load of press and is still talked about now.

Nonsense. Just watch the “logistical complexities” in Russia, or ask the Scousers who missed Karius’ glory about logistics. USA, Mexico, Canada means longer flights- not “ logistical complexities” like missing a bloody match.

I’m so freakin happy about this.

Can’t wait to see who they’re gonna have playing in Atlanta.

Now I just have to make sure I don’t kick the bucket before then.
