United States, Mexico and Canada to host 2026 World Cup

Horrible decision. Bad for travelling fans, hate world cups played over such a massive scale. Returning to Mexico and North America once again so soon is laughable. Morocco were a much more interesting host, and I wish they'd got it. Oh well, typical FIFA.

It’s going to be a beautiful tournament, believe me. Best tournament ever.
That might be true, for a change :)

How ironic that this decision is made few days after the G-7 summit and the attacks on Canada.

Any way, very good news. Congratulations to all three nations!

UEFA get 16
Africans get 9
Asian gets 8
North America gets 6
South America gets 6
Oceania get 1

Final 2 spots are decided by 6 teams in a playoff tournament in the host country. Each confederation gets a spot in the playoffs (except UEFA), the host confederation gets the 6th, and the two highest ranked get a bye so only have to play one match.
Will be 16 groups of 3 with a European nation in each group.

Are England fans always such cry babies? Although I suppose it would be nice not having to travel far after England is knocked out in the group stage.

I think England are overdue a second one now looking back at all the historical hosts.

If you want to borrow our stadium for a few matches then all the better.

Yeah what cry babies we are.

Mexico will have held the world cup 3 times since we did for feck sake.

I genuinely don't think England will ever host a World Cup again.

I think when the matches are in Mexico all TV commentary should be a feed to the Mexican commentators instead of our own drivel.

In the entire American continent, North America, Central America and South America, only Brazil voted Morocco.

How easy if for americans to convince all those countries to do whatever they want.

Toronto should get more games. The most diverse city in the world and safe. Atmosphere would be amazing

Amazing news. Folks complaining about Canada getting a spot go and take a look at Alphonso Davies on YouTube, the Canadian Freddy adu who might actually live up to the hype. He’ll be 25 then and has the potential to be an absolute star.

I think Fifa worry about England promoting “football coming home” if they were ever to win a bid. It’s a shame.

Can people stop moaning about people not caring here? In Canada they had a special tv show announcing the winner and it was hugely celebrated. Not sure how America feels about it but I can guarantee that the games hosted in Canada will be an amazing spectacle.

I love Canada and think it will be great there, I don't agree with how widespread it will be though, Canada to Mexico is massive and feel it will somehow dilute the atmosphere.

Hopefully more teams helps with that.

The fact that its spread over 3 countries will make the atmosphere even better.

What film is this?

It's called "United Passions" and it genuinely has Sepp Blatter as the hero of the film. It came out during the same month the whole FBI corruption investigation blew up and unsuprisingly it was an absolute box office bomb.

In the film the English are the bad guys and portrayed as moustache twirling cartoon baddies at that.

Don't know about that.

There's no golden rule that says atmosphere must be contained within one small country. Fans will travel and soak up the diverging cultures of each location. It will add to the character of the tournament, not detract from it.

How come the 2022 world cup was announced 12 years early and the 2018 and 2026 world cup 8 years early?

I'd totally disagree with that.

A world cup held in one country gives it a much better identity in my opinion.

That may be a bit more applicable in a small European country with a long football tradition, but less so in the "emerging football world", where fans are culturally amorphous and can adapt to different cultural circumstances.

Everything outside of comfy -3 to +3 UTC sucks.

Nah, for us Europeans the minus is alright. Evening/midnight-ish works fine. It's the +9 that sucks the life out of you. Beer and football at 8 a.m. is not very appealing.

Have absolutely no clue why Canada is on the bid. Honestly have no clue why it's a join bid in the first place. Both Mexico and the United States are big enough countries with enough stadiums to do it alone.

At least we'll qualify for a World Cup though haha

Why do some of you have the incessant need to bring up politics?

I guess its all a matter of opinion. I doubt fans will travel from Canada to Mexico to soak up the culture. What will happen is fans will probably stay in Canada, the US or Mexico and stay there picking up the games they have that a reasonably local. Id say different groups will be based regions for fans ease of access and expense, or at least I would like to think so. I certainly wouldn't want to spend the majority of my WC on public transport and going through customs. Flight time from Canada to Mexico is the guts of 6 hours, not to mention the extra time required for boarding and customs, feck that.

Canada’s on the bid because it’s citizens are a better quality of people.

If they were to stay in Canada (lets say Toronto) then that would be their choice, but it wouldn't be any different than staying in one location in the US and not going to Mexico. Flights are cheap, so no one with the financial wherewith-all to plan and buy tickets to a WC should have the need to be financially constrained by having to remain in one location for the entire time.
