United States, Mexico and Canada to host 2026 World Cup

Can't help but feel that the threat of the Feds feeling a few more collars at FIFA might have helped.

England probably won't get one till 2066..

Again? Really.

2002 - Japan & South Korea
2006 - Germany
2010 - South Africa
2014 - Brazil
2018 - Russia
2022 - Qatar
2026 - USA/Canada/Mexico

England supports have had/got some travelling to do.

Edmonton, Montreal and toronto the canada candidates.... hopefully just goes to toronto and Montreal then! Could make it to both of those no problem (or some problem, Montreal is far but itd be worth it).

Anyway, I'd be lying if I said I was thrilled about this even though i live in Canada. Fully expect the atmosphere to be brutal with everything being so spread out.

Brainfart - why not host it in 48 different countries (ie all the participants). Then it truly is a spectacle

  • The American candidate cities are Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle and Washington D.C.
  • The Mexico candidate cities are Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey.
  • The Canadian candidate cities are Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal.
16 cities will be selected of the 23 candidates. 10 games in Mexico, 10 games in Canada, 60 in the USA is the current blueprint. 16 groups of 3 teams as the group stage.

Yet another cup where I can't be arsed to go. Hopefully England will get 2030, otherwise this is just becoming a meaningless circus in countries who don't give a shit about the game, much like how the F1 developed sadly. Four timezones, three countries, a whole continent and only one of those countries has a football culture. #thanksFIFA

Might as well tell America to host the whole thing.

I like it, it'll be a good atmosphere but they'll definitely need to keep group games to specific regions. For example, All Group A games in the north-east corner of the USA and so on.

Basically this. Live in Canada 4 hours from toronto so I'll see some games and I'll be close enough... but I just want a world cup where I'm excited to travel to and be part of. Wish I went to Brazil 2014, but now theres gonna be nothing too excited until potentially 2030 which is ages away. Atmosphere wise it just wont be the same here, the general culture around the country (or in this case, massive continent...).

Most Asian countries voted for the United bid. China voted for Morocco while Saudi Arabia and its allies voted for the United bid.
Only a few European countries voted for Morocco (including France, Italy, the Netherlands).
Brazil voted for Morocco, while most other South American countries voted for the North American bid.

Basically a few token group stage games and then 1 knockout game in Mexico and 1 in Canada and the rest in the US. With the way its split up, itll be 2 cities in Mexico and 2 in canada then 12 in US probably. Fully expecting it to be underwhelming.

A sham to cover the US getting another world cup so soon.

Even South Africa was a better host despite all it's problems.

Toronto will surely get it. And maybe other goes to Vancouver. Travelling would be a pain. But I am looking forward to it.

Fifa are seriously ruining this event. 48 teams, that is why we have a big knockout round called 'qualification'. I don't want to see Tuvalu vs Sierra Leone in the main event.

Surely something can be done by the big footballing nations? This is now 12 years of the sport going to non-footballing nations. With Mexico hosting it 3 times and USA twice in the last 50 years. I don't know how Fifa have control of it all. Nations are clearly bribing to win the competition.

Surely the big European nations can get together and ask for more control of these decisions or make a new federation? Once all the big Europeans nations have transferred away from Fifa the rest of the world will follow.

There is no regard for fans travelling as well. Morocco may have been an odd choice but it certainly made more sense than 3 massive countries requiring Visas and long expensive flights to cross borders.

It's not gonna be BMO Field though. Too small unless they expand.

Vancouver pulled out as a candidate city because of the hosting costs apparently. Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal. Montreal most likely will get one, they have the Olympic stadium which can hold 60k fans and are probably well prepared. BMO field in Toronto says it can hold 30k and is expandable up to 40k... Rogers Centre in Toronto can hold around 50k, but I'm not sure if everything is according to regulation for the pitch since it's usually a baseball stadium. The stadium in Edmonton can hold almost 60k, also has previous for hosting international matches...

Think it would go to Montreal and Edmonton to "spread it out" over Canada, instead of it being Toronto and Montreal which would be too close to each other.

Please have one of the semis in Canada, the other in the Estadio Azteca and the final in Dallas. Would be great.

Why is an entire fecking continent deemed to be a suitable host?

I’m happy it’s going to North America-Particularly the U.S as will grow the game more there, Mexico as it’s a soccer mad country and Canada..well I hear Toronto & Montreal are great places!

Why is there so much negativity about this bid on here..? I think it’s exciting..can’t remember time zone being much of an issue in Brazil either. The 3 team group stage is silly but that would’ve been same for Morocco too.

Ridiculous, how the feck have we not had it since 66 , think we shouldn’t bother entering , were not going to win it and there must be a concerted effort not to give it to us so why bother.

you say that as if England was option for this one when obviously we werent in contention - its the current one in Russia that should have been England but our bid was shit
