They are currently much better than the talent from other countries. So much more composed on the ball, technically great, good pace, good strength, mentally strong & despite doubts about their size & physicality all that have been signed by PL clubs recently (Silva, Mata, etc.) have done well. They are clearly having a golden period and we need to jump on the bandwagon quickly.

This is not knee-jerk have been saying this for a while now & today just re-emphasises that.
 
We need to kidnap a few Bilbao players and leave them Park, saves them for thrashing us tonight!

Rafa really was a visionary in so many ways. He knew this.
 
I would massively be surprised if some contact hasn't been made with Bilbao over a player or two. Fergie talks about it being irresponsible not making contact with Sporting over Ronaldo, for me this is exactly the same. How can you see the likes of Martinez and Munian with so much quality and not think, feck, they'd go alright with us. Especially considering the type of football they can play.
 
I think the way they play football or more so the way they are taught to play football is the basis for such skillfullness, adaptability and plain awesomeness both on and off the ball from back to front.
 
In some ways I think this humiliating loss will be good for us.

Someone other then Barca or Real needed to show us they can hammer us for 180 minutes and we can do feck all about it.

Wouldn't mind 2 or 3 Spaniards though. I was a big fan of Martinez and Muniain before we played them. They seem to have the right mentality. Martinez is so mature.
Make the whole squad take Spanish lessons, buy some Spaniards and then speak Spanish on the pitch. Opposition got no idea what's up.
 
I'd rather we adopt their approach to youth system/style/work. Clearly they're doing something right.

Good footballing lesson tonight, on many levels. Should take notice.
 
Whenever I watch Bayern they too keep the ball and move it arouks fantastically. I think its just the English sides that are getting poorer at ball retention and the others better. I mean ffs even arsenal aren't the kings of possession they used to be. We dominated in that area on their own patch his season!

I do agree with the underlining point that ball retention is becoming all important now ajd qe need to improve greatly in this respect.

Agreed. We never had a shot in the CL in the first place in my opinion.


Some Spaniards would be nice. I'm sure there will be a few coming to the PL this summer... To City and Chelski that is!
 
Spain have such a deep talent pool of midfield talent right now there really has to be at least one out there that fits the bill for us.

It's a spanish golden generation right now and we should be jumping on board with it, we got their best young GK already.
 
Javi Martinez should be absolutely top of our list! He gave an absolute master class over the two leg. Has everything, speed, versatility, technical ability & composure.

Some of the players we had out there just aren't quite good enough.

With Cleverly playing his short, snappy one touch passes straight to the opposition, and Park being brushed aside by every passing butterfly, and Giggs being 38 years old, and Young being invisible, well, it's not all that surprising that we're beaten by a good Spanish team away from home.

Any 2 of Muniain, Martinez and Herrera - and we have a team good enough to fight for the Premiership for 4-5 years without any new players...and we wont be ridiculed in Europe either

I don't think we can look at it like that. For a start, what reason do they have not to care? What about the supporters who paid to see the team play? I think you greatly underestimate them. That's a good midfield - Scholes in his prime definitely but we need to move with the times.

I dunno about Spanish players, I was disappointed to not see Welbeck play for Giggs. His build up play have been tremendous this season. We've been complacent in Europe this season but Bilbao deserve respect. They're no mugs. I think we could argue our lads are. I'm not sure what they do in training, but it appears we don't work hard enough..

We could learn a lot from such clubs who pass the ball, who have a picture. At times we struggled passing the ball 5 yards. Some players need a kick up the arse.

Why do we go for bit part players now instead of stars, unless he is losing patience with Nani or Park is on his way out. Still a club this size should be competing for the big names. You can get a bit fed up with prospects all the time. It is like he is desperate to find another Ronaldo. Is there another Ronaldo?

Majority of times you get what you pay for. There again Henderson 20m, Hmmm.
 
I actually agree with this transfer thread. They have simply too much talent and it's showing up the rest of the world. More players with their technical ability could help us close the gap on our rivals.

Martinez and Muniain do interest me, even more so after this tie.

Did you notice that 4-4-2 didn't work against Bilbao? It's dead and buried in Europe, we need to start playing 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 on a consistent basis in Europe, like we did back in 08 when we won the thing.

It's fine playing 4-4-2 at home against the lesser teams when we've got a full strength team, but away from home against tactically and techically superior teams is asking for trouble.
 
We played 5 in midfield tonight. Still got outplayed in the middle!
