United in this Summer transfer window

Fellaini - Carrick
Ozil - Mata - Kagawa
RvP
Totally makes sense.

Makes no sense we would leave such moves so late in the window for Mata and Ozil especially as it is blatant we are not going to sell Rooney to Chelsea. We are not after Mata and I don't think we are in for Ozil either. Fellaini I think we will eventually sign.

Really true that the players who could improve Utd are really by definition really hard to get. I just wish the club would give itself a fighting chance by not coming up with a low bid in Fabregas' case and not only once.

Yeah it's definitely frustrating. I think the fact of the matter is that if you want a world class player you've got got to be willing to pay. We're never going to get Fabregas on the cheap. If we were going to sign Fabregas I wouldn't at all be surprised if it cost upwards of 50mil. We weren't willing to meet that valuation and it didn't happen. Woodward is clearly reluctant to spend really big on a player but the way the transfer market is these days with City, PSG etc its just a reality that players are going to cost more and their are going to be significantly less bargains out there.

This thread can be answered in one word. Shambles.

But we do have a good squad, and some exciting potential in youngsters like Zaha and Januzaj. I'd like to see more Powell too. Lets keep thinking about the positives.

I swear with mentioned yougsters like Morrison, Pogba and Tunnicliffe in the past. There wont be much positives until we see two or three in by the end of this window.

Does anyone truly think we're going to do any business?

I just can't see it. We've been so bloody impotent in this window.

True and before them was........... Darren Fletcher? So that once ever what? It's not a debate all the best to our youngsters but we need external bodies.

And O'Shea and Brown before them.

We've had fantastic success with blooding youngsters into out first team (and if not into our team to other premier league clubs). I have hope that this will continue in the future.

Yep, youngsters are meant to be eased in to build confidence and get a taste for it. I have no doubt Moyes will give the likes of Lingard and Januzaj a chance, but having to rely on promising kids to regularly produce because you are short of numbers, is asking too much when going for trophies. We need at least one, 2 or 3 would obviously have been far better, but I would gladly take Fellaini alone at this point. Better cover for Carrick than what we have is a must, because we have none atm, and none of our kids who look likely to get any game time are particularly defensive minded.

It's a must to get at least one, otherwise we are in big trouble if anything happens to Carrick. A midfield without Carrick does not fill me with confidence when we consider the options we have, or don't have would probably be more accurate.

It's quite hard to see it, we've basically done nothing in 3months, so why would we suddenly get anything done In the last week?

Everton will probably want £18m for Baines and £25m for Fellaini, which for me are both over priced for what they offer.

Baines especially seems completely unnecessary, Evra is solid, and you don't spend big on rotation left backs.
I have to be honest and say I wouldn't necessarily see Fellaini as an upgrade on Cleverley either, more a different option and extra body.

Most likely we'll press on as we are, unless the Bale deal triggers a house of card effect throughout the big European teams.
And no I don't mean Ronaldo!

You could be right, but it's the scenario I've been trying to avoid facing personally. I don't think your valuations are too far off either. My guess is £40m for the pair, but I have a feeling that we may compromise and just get Fellaini for around £25m. I don't think Baines has too long left on his deal, so spending too much on a player who we are not desperate for does seem excessive. I like Baines and do think we would benefit quite a bit from his more reliable service on the left. We create a lot of space down that side, and Evra doesn't often do much with it in the final third tbh.

That aside, I would now be extremely disappointed if we didn't sign at least Fellaini, because we need him far more, and could have signed him much earlier for significantly less. So to have to wait till January before adding to the midfield, would be very frustrating and just so unnecessary. Whoever is on charge of making these bids needs to be accountable for not bringing the managers targets in. If it's Woodward, then he hasn't really endeared himself to the fans so far, and frankly struggling now because of his failure to get the job done would be very embarrassing for him really right from the off.

Don't shout at me for what I'm going to say, Jose has managed to completely unsettle one of our best forwards, gone out and signed Eto and Willian in the last couple of days and we have signed ziich. According to some on here we are the biggest club in the world, so how come we cannot sign anyone. Something is not right. So either we have to go with no success and blood the kids and reap the rewards later or get our finger out and spend all this money we supposedly have.

Irrespective of the quality of our kids, if we don't sort the CM issue out, we're going to get found out this season.

I'm sick of hearing "this squad finished 11 points clear last season" sentiment. We no longer have SAF, the whole world can see that City are a happier camp and Mourinho doesn't do 3rd places.

That has annoyed me, yes we won by some distance, but some of the football was dire, and as people kept saying, not up to United's standards. City were in turmoil and Chelsea have improved just by getting Jose back. There are too many at OT resting on their laurels.

Pretty sure that happened a while ago now. Nowt to do with him

I think the way Chelsea have been acting with Rooney has changed Moyes way of behaving as well. He said he wouldn't talk about other teams players, but is now openly talking about Fellaini and Baines. It's as though he has said, Stuff it, if he can do, I bloody well will as well.

Rooney's mindset has been set since the latter part of last year, isn't all down to Mourinho.

And a question for you and others, how many of the signings made by Premier league teams would have improved us this year? A debating topic!

Fernandinho
Wanyama
Paulinho

Edit: talking CMs only.

Probably none, but we don't seem to be able to stand up to other clubs when going for players. We give in too easily. Not sure if the Rooney stuff has made us take our eye off the ball. If we want anyone from Real Madrid, well get on with it. Even though Chelsea might not buy Rooney they have kept the speculation going.

To haul out the old cliche, if you aren't moving forwards you are moving backwards. The great teams stay great by continuing to improve, not resting on their laurels. Bayern cleaned up last season, comfortably bagging a treble - what do they do? They go out and buy one of the hottest emerging players in the world in Gotze.

All the other teams have improved a lot. Spurs and City have both spent huge amounts of money and Chelsea aren't far behind, and apparently are after more. United have only signed one youngster who is not going to play any serious amount of games this year, we have the Rooney saga which Potentially means one of our best players doesn't have his head screwed on properly... I don't think we will win the league, CL or FA cup without at least 1-2 good signings, and realistically, new manager or not, those trophies should be our goal.

Only a week or so to go of this until it's all over. It's beyond belief that we are here with a week left and still haven't signed anyone. I realise Moyes might not have been fully prepared but I hope this isn't a sign of things to come now.

Paulinho looks a good player to me. But as usual, we weren't interested.

Don't see anything happening either. Maybe fellaini. But that's it. Really shit summer.

I don't see us bringing in anyone, but I don't think it's the end of the world if we don't. No point panic buying and paying over the odds for someone now.

Can't even begin to describe how disappointed i'am with our summer so far !

We went from Ronaldo to Fabregas to Fellaini to nothing !

Hate whoever is responsible for this total lack of transfers, i think it is Woodward !

Yes put him in the cabinet next to Dembele and Wanyama....

God i think we are the worst club in football history if it comes down to signing midfielders. I am starting to believe we'll never sign a good midfielder ever !!!

It's definitely strange. Other clubs keep signing impressive good midfielders every summer but were still waiting for this "right" midfielder who I hope even exists.

United in this transfer window have had a hard time letting players go in my opinion. Secondly, waiting to sign a big name, marquee signing has screwed us over. I dont think we should have waited to sign a big player before pursuing others. This summer more than any other summer is the most important period of transition in the history of the club. I think signing midfielders was/is/will be crucial to us holding onto the title. And midfield is the only area of the pitch we actually need to strengthen. Attack is good with RVP, Hernandez and Welbeck. GK is also good with De Gea and Anders. Defense is solid with the right mix of youth and experience. Midfield is one area of our squad that is seriously lacking quality and that is there for everyone to see and exploit in terms of on and off the pitch.

Back to my first point of letting players go. I think we should have done what Spurs did and cleared out deadwood. Players like Young, Anderson, Buttner, Bebe and Macheda should have been let go. According to reports, Young is earning close to or even more than £100K a week. Is he worth it to be on that much? I absolutely think not. For a squad player to be earning that much is not good. And when was the last time he actually got a good run out for the first team. He performed very well the first two months after we signed him and ever since then he has been less than a shadow of himself when he was Aston Villa. We should have cut our losses and sold him this past summer. No one was effective on the left wing last season and that is an area we should have seriously considered strengthening this summer.

Secondly Anderson. We have had discussions about this player for a long time now. How many chances does he deserve to get? I think we should have sold him a year or two ago. He has been at this club for 6 years now and I dont think he has scored over 5 goals or even assisted more than 5 goals in a single campaign and he has had his fair share of injury and fitness problems. How many more chances is he going to get? And his value keeps decreasing every season he is with us because he is not getting better. Buttner is next. I know we only got him last season but he is such a huge liability at the back when ever he plays. He might be good going forward but what good does it do if he cant cover for the defense? He is never going to be a starter for us so why not sell him and sign someone even younger with much better potential to take over from Evra. We have Fabio back as well who is a much bigger prospect. I dont think I have to explain myself when it comes to either Bebe or Macheda.

Lastly we need to understand that in today's market and from here on in, paying £20-30m for players is going to be a norm. With the number of clubs managed by rich owners, the prices are going to be keep rising. If we keep negotiating and trying to get a bargain for everyone we wont sign anybody. For example Lamela at £26m or Isco at £23m is a steal according to me because there is a huge upside to players like them because they are young and have so much potential. I have doubts about us having a lot of money to spend. If that is indeed the case, then selling players would help raise at least an extra £15-20m which we could use to sign someone.

There is a week left - plenty of time

I expect furious activity from Tuesday morning

Reckon we'll have Fellaini by Thursday and McCarthy will join Everton before the window closes

I just want to fast forward to the end of this transfer window. Seems to be a massive anti climax right now. First talk of having a large amount of cash to spend on transfers and Moyes actually saying he was targeting the midfield with names like Ronaldo, thiago and Fabregas being touted. Now it looks like we may not sign anyone and if we do it will likely be Fellaini. Things just seem to be rapidly dropping away in terms of transfer anticipation and excitement.

It could turn out to be very shrew business by us to not sign anyone this summer. Let Moyes get to know the squad properly and then decide who he needs, no panic buys please.

Indeed, I'd go so far as to say it would be quite the coup for the club if it weren't to sign anyone.

Unless we get Scott Parker. He's the one exception to this rule. You must always keep the door open for such players,

It would be lunacy to sign someone so late in the transfer window now. Let the current squad settle jnder the new manager and wait for next summer.

I think Moyes is already quite clear on what we need at the moment, it's just that we haven't a clue on how to go about doing it. By that I mean going for players who are available and willing to come, and knowing how much money is actually needed to pry them from their clubs.

I have no doubt that Moyes has the ability to develop our young players properly, but unfortunately we don't seem to have many good prospects in central midfield.

If Rooney leaves and we bring in Ozil, Mata and Fellaini, I think that's a decent transfer window that offers a lot of balance to our squad. Fellaini will give Carrick some cover and be an engine in the more physical games and then we'll have our very own Die Drei Freunde in Kagawa, Ozil and Mata. In fact, imagine this:

-----------RVP----------
Kagawa----Ozil----Mata
-----Fellaini---Carrick--
