I think Solskjaer will ultimately fail here.
However, there is no real prospect of him being sacked any time soon and (unlike some of our previous managers) he isn't actively polluting the team in a way that will hinder the next manager. So I think we just wait and see what happens.
When the time does come to appoint a new manager though, the basic principles should be that we don't want a defensive manager and we don't want someone who is past it. It also has to be accompanied by a change in structure at the club, else it will inevitably end in failure too.
