Under 21 Euros 2019

So basically France and Romania will advance if:
  • France-Romania ends in a draw
  • France beats Romania by 1 or 2 goals
Italy will advance if:
  • Romania beats France
  • France beats Romania by 3 or more goals

Denmark will be raging if Romania win as they scored a fine third goal that would see them above Italy just now.

Denmark have +2, Italy have +3 GD, they are out either way. It's between France, Romania and Italy now.

I hope Romania takes advantage of French overconfidence and counter attack their high lines. They absolutely have the quality to do so. It would really not be any justice if they collapse and go out of the tournament.
Forza Romania, hope France will go out even th.o it's unlikely.
Btw we should look at Radu (Romanian GK); he's brilliant, potential to be world class I think.
If they manage to endure first 20 or so minutes, France will have problem, they are tactically very strong with #1 #9 #10 and few other players with good individual skills too.

Looking at the ways the sides set up and you'd think Romania have the perfect style to punish France.

Exactly this.
Only if France score early goal or 2, they could lose the plot.
Otherwise, they showed amazing maturity (its also great that most of their players play regular senior football in their clubs) and discipline. Judging by previous games they have perfect game for France, I hope they can deliver and maybe even win the game.

Yeah, I think Romania are a side if you get the early goal then you start to control the narrative and they have to come out and play.

Yes, they only grow tactically as game goes on but were never in position when they are down in this tournament. Since they seem very mature maybe they wouldn't panic on 0-1 but on 0-2 probably game over. Still they gave great response when England came back twice last game. I don't know, I'm not a fan but will be with Romania today.
Since I mentioned England, if you guys bet or something and think that England will have motivation to win against Croatia, feel free to back England. Croatia has 0 motivation and no tactics. We don't have plan B in game just because we don't even have plan A.
Since I have only 3 posts per day, have a good day everyone and Go Romania

Yeah but if the goal stood(as it should have) Denmark would be +3 and ahead of Italy.

Unlucky there. Excellent move, such incisive attacking through the middle. Incredible effort from the Croatia defense to keep it out.

That's Spain, Germany, Romania and France qualified for the semifinals and the olympic games next summer.

Shocking defending again. Ended up with Mount as the defensive midfielder FFS. Gibbs-White got about 10 touches in the whole tournament when his place could have been taken by a defensive midfielder. It just makes no sense.

Oh well.

Team selections and substitutions strange from Boothroyd throughout the tournament. He should really be sacked but England gave him a new contract before the Euros.

Almost all of the England lads have won either the U17 or U19 Euros (or both) and the U17 and U20 World Cup. They've proven they can deliver in tournaments for England. Boothroyd has to be sacked, but he obviously won't be. Having said that, there's not much he can do about his players just absolutely gifting goals to the opposition so many times.

As much as I love watching any England side lose, Aidy really has to be fired after this. People will mention the individual errors but the problem go deeper than that.

I think England and Portugal have some similarities on some problems. I complain a lot about the lack of quality regarding the Portugal Youth NT coaches who Imo are quite inferior to the ones working at the best clubs. Most of them are ex players who in Portugal case are only working there because they won some youth tournaments some decades ago under Queirós but don’t have the same quality at this level.

Another similarity is the fact this teams until the under 20 levels are usually quite strong but when they face other nations at the under 21 tournaments (or under 23) we can see that countries like Germany, France or Spain when their players are between the 21/23 years have many more players with experience at the highest level.

Of course this isn’t black or white and England has a larger pool of recruitment than we have, but still at least for the big tournaments they need to have midfielders who can control better the games. And better coaching can help too.

There's suggestion that he only got the job because of his friendship with Dan Ashworth. Boothroyd was sacked from Northampton when they were bottom of the entire football league before he joined the England setup. He would probably have been taking non-league jobs if he wanted to continue as a manager in the professional game. The u21 job is far higher profile than he deserves on the merits of his abilities.

Ten years ago, Germany beat England in the Final.

The Germans had a quality pool of players, but also a long term vision, with Neur Boateng, Ozil Hummels, Khedira, Schmelzer, Castro Johnson Howedes, and Beck all enjoying Bundesliga careers, whilst the majority also featured in Germany’s successful 2014 World Cup campaign.

Studying their line-up, there was only one players (Boenisch) who gradually faded from the scene.

Joe Hart was suspended for the final, but his replacement now plays for Barnett.

Martin Cranie has just been released by Sheffield United after featuring mainly in the Championship.

The rest of the team had relatively decent club careers, but apart from James Milner, and (to a slightly lesser extent) Theo Walcott, slowly faded into obscurity (or prison)

Micah Richards, Kieron Gibbs, Mark Noble Nedum Onuoha, Lee Cattermole, Adam Johnson Fabrice Muamba

It's hard to imagine he possibly got the job on merit. Can't see how he can survive this really. 1 point from 3 games is incredibly poor regardless of the opposition.
